Being on the dental school waitlist is a hard frustrating time. Hang in there there is a good chance you get in. Work on your application in the meantime. If you really need to do something write a letter of intent or give the school a call. Good luck! Keep working and you'll get in!

Thank you for making this video! I got put on MOSDOH's alternate list post-interview at the end of April so I sent them a letter of intent and now it's just a waiting game. Really tight situation because I've been preparing for a DAT retake and the next application cycle is already opening.

This was very insightful! You have a very positive spirit. Thank you! I’m currently on an alternate list for my top choice school. I just found out about my status a day ago and unfortunately I can’t find out my ranking on the list, but as you said, I’m keeping my head high while I wait!

Hey Matt, my name is Josh, and thanks again for making this video, it's very reassuring to hear that things have a good chance of working out. Just out of curiosity, I am currently waitlisted at Indiana (waitlist in December) and Maryland (waitlist in March), but I felt really good after both interviews and while Indiana has made it clear they are not accepting letters of intent, I have taken the liberties of sending one to Maryland. Hopefully I have a good shot to get into both, but just wanted to hear your thoughts and since I am an out of state kid for both schools, would that affect my chances to come off the waitlist? Thanks again and you're right, I have faith I will get off one, if not both, waitlists

Hey Josh! I'm sorry I was so slow to respond to this. Yeah I think you have a good shot. Being wait-listed so early is a good sign. I think the letter of intent is a good move. Let me know what happens. Thanks for the comment!

Your video helped a lot and so far I’m still waitlisted at Maryland, unfortunately, Indiana didn’t work out, but hopefully good news is coming with Maryland this week, I’m going to give them a call to check in since they told me last time that the upcoming class was still not full yet

thank you for the advice! any tips on what to do if they don’t pick up when you call? I left a voicemail but im wondering if it’ll still be as effective (roseman)

If you don't hear back from them I would try again. I would try a few more times maybe don't leave messages, but try to talk to someone. Obviously you don't want to overdo it. Be kind and respectful. You got this!

thank u sm for this video! i feel sm better after watching it. I interviewed at one school and was put on the waitlist and will hear back from them after the second round of acceptances around late January-February. i was just wondering do u know what might have caused them to put me on the waitlist after being interviewed rather than getting accepted? do u think it is bc something might have gone wrong w/ my interview?

Great question! I wouldn't necessarily say something went wrong. Dental schools interview more people than they have spots for. They will rank their applicants and start moving down their list. The fact they put you on the wait list means they like you. Also use that interview as practice. Think back on it, what went well what could you have done better. Keep working, you got this!

Hi! My daughter got waitlisted by Nova Southeastern after she thought the interview went great. I just sent this to her to encourage her. She is heartbroken! She is trying to ask around to see what her next step should be with them.

It can be very stressful and frustrating. Good news is there is still a lot of time before school starts. There will be a lot of movement on the waitlist. I was waitlisted and accepted by two schools. I didn't hear from the first one until March the other in July. The interview probably went well and its a good sign she was interviewed and put on the waitlist early. Anyways I hope this is encouraging. I think there is a great chance she gets in!

Yes, there is still a chance! There will be waitlist changes through the summer. Especially in schools that are more expensive. A girl in my class at MWU got accepted 3 days before class started. Keep building your application. You got this!

@@drmatt9208 Thank you so much for the insight Matt, I am in their Master's program and got pretty discouraged when I got put on the alternate list. A couple of of my Biomed friends are on the same boat, but good to know that there will be opening throughout the summer. Love how you documented your dental school journey from D1 to D4, I will be rewatching your videos for guide if I get off the waitlist! Fingers crossed!

Did you write your letter of intent in an email? Or did you type out and print and actual letter, sign it and mail it? Or did you type and print a letter, sign it, scan it then attach it in an email to admissions?

I think I just wrote it in an email. I think any choice is good and works. Most schools mostly deal online now so I would email. I think having it as an attachment probably looks more professional.

Do you think a letter of recommendation from my cousin dentist who is an alumnus of the school would help? I've been working as a dental assistant at his practice and I want to showcase how what I've learned is applicable to my school.

Yeah I think that can help. Some schools are big on Alumni and things like that can make a difference. I wouldn't use it on my applications a LOR from a dentist. Have it sent in addition to your other LOR. Great question.

@@drmatt9208 Awesome! Also, is it worth mentioning that my top choice dental school has been the only school that has interviewed me to date? I'm thinking it could help me since that school did ask its interviewees to let them know what schools have interviewed or accepted them on the day of our interview. If I were in the adcom's shoes wouldn't an applicant be more likely to accept the offer if their school was the only one that interviewed and waitlisted them? Thanks!

Of Course Unranked Waitlist( waitlist to interview) -AT Still University Missouri -University of Utah -Tufts Alternate waitlist -Roseman University -Midwestern University AZ

Matt Haas which two accepted you? I’m trying to figure out if it’s likely to get off the waitlist of a school with a relatively small class size (~90).

Roseman and Midwestern University Az both accepted me. It depends on the school, for example expensive schools tend to have a lot of movement of the waitlist. Hang in there theres a lot of movement on waitlists!
