THE BEST PHOTOS VIDEO THERE IS. I have watched many of them and thought I knew all there was to know about photos but how wrong I was. You shared so many excellent tips that I had never heard of. Can’t wait to watch the next in this series. Thank you for your great work.

Thank you so much Dylan for yet another and for my part personally bespoke video. I am so grateful that you took up my suggestion and I am at a loss how quickly you produced this highly informative and edit intensive lecture. This will no doubt be another winner in your already highly valued teaching series. I am already looking forward to part 2. The one thing that continues to occupy me is what to type into the ‘Title’ sections, not being content with just the camera produced file name. I know that I can add details of a photo taken in the ‘Get Info’ sections, but for quick identification purposes, what might just be the best strategy for the titles (place, person, date), given that these will be visible when viewed as a collection on one page. Thank you once again and you are a star.

Hey Dylan, love your content and the passing on all the info and Knowledge you have about the Apple Ecosystem. Thank You. my question to you, does it matter if I start this process on any Apple device? just got a Mac deskTop...learning and loving it, but I'm still one who uses iPhone a bit more at this point. will it all sync up? Thanks Again
@TheMacWhisperer
@TheMacWhisperer 3 месяца назад
It all syncs, so my advice is to use the device in front of you... and practice trying the apps on each device. Reminders are a little easier on the Mac. Photos is MUCH MUCH better on the Mac. But voice memos and files are made for the phone. Safari and Notes work great on everything. Plus, Siri is much much better on the phone. Get used to going from one to the other... but if you are in front of your computer resist the urge to grab your phone... most things are easier with a full keybaord and a mouse/trackpad.

Dylan, if I take pictures with a camera (which saves the pictures on a flash drive) and then upload the pictures to my photos, will the date of the picture be when I took it or when it was uploaded?
@TheMacWhisperer

It will be the date the picture was taken by the camera.

I haven’t used the cloud since i think the 6s. I only have an ipad and iPhone. Does this have to be done on a desktop? Id think that the ipad would work but with Apple one never knows what and why some things can only be done using ios or only plugged into a pc or only on a Mac.
@TheMacWhisperer
@TheMacWhisperer 2 месяца назад
1. I would strongly reconsider using the cloud. It's how things are meant to sync, and it simplifies everything. 2. It CAN be done (to some degree) from the iPad or the iPhone, but it is much harder... still synching with the cloud will significantly siplify it, and make sure you only have one library to organize... not multiple ones (the ipad, the iPhone, a computer, etc...) Just curious why you don't use iCloud?

@@TheMacWhisperer i have a NAS in home. I prefer to keep my information on my computer, not some other server. The main reason I stopped was because I noticed one day while looking for a phone number that I had 3 of every contact. And when i spoke with Apple support they said the first thing i need to do was get anything i may want off the cloud and then do away with it. Since I didn’t have anything i personally wanted i deleted the cloud. Never had the issue with my music getting all mixed with the girlfriends again either. They also said that most of them at Apple change 3 things immediately when they get a device. 1 - No cloud, 2 - turn off Siri 3 - delete the mail and contacts apps. Both are glitchy at best and serve no real purpose. All good since then. And it does help with keeping things more organized. Like deciding what images to keep and what to toss. I have just been saving all to the main photo library for 2 years and need to start doing a little sorting. I decided to start with the girlfriend’s 300 pictures of everything every time and maybe keep one of each batch. If i do it’s always the first one, delete all others. . Turns out, if i delete all with her in them, my problem is 80% solved. Lol
@TheMacWhisperer
@TheMacWhisperer 2 месяца назад
I 100% disagree with the apple tech's suggestions (not the first time that has happened). In order to solve a small problem (which could have been fixed with some simple setting changes for you and your girlfriend), you have created a much harder system that doesn't work as intended and puts the onus on you to keep things synched. The contacts issue is solvable easily, and you can still keep your info stored locally, but not being able to sync through the cloud can make things so much harder. Obviously it is your setup and you need to do whatever feels right to you, but I thinkj you are making things way too hard for uyourself, rather than setting things up the simpler way it was intended to be used. My problem with the Apple Techs is that they are techie, and do not consider the common user's technical skills. Apple was made for idiots, and is ALMOST idiot proof. When you lean on the technical knowledge o fth euser, everything gets more complicated (in my opinion). My knowledge is based on 20+ years of working with the common user who knows next to nothing about technology aand wants to keep it that way. Let me know if I can help you on this further.

@@TheMacWhisperer So am i to believe the Genius Bar is just a cute little name Apple gives to the extremely helpful Techs who don’t think charging me $40 for a new phone charging cable that is so long i can almost put it on my desk to charge, is ok? Lol. As for syncing and the cloud. I understand it. But then my girlfriend decided she needs an iphone too. And her son. And while I’m no Apple certified Genius (i should take the 4 hour course some day though) i would walk into a barrage of questions on how to use this app or how do i do this but make it pink. And as i go to show them how to do it i got” oh ill never be able to learn that now. Can you just do snapchat for me and send things to these people. And the kid asking why his phone has some of my music on it. I went with the apple techs quite honestly shockingly lame advice. But they heard it, i dropped it. And i was free. I only put my music on my phone. Pictures are for work and get dumped to the pc asap. And the iPad was my gift to me to play clash of clans on while having morning coffee and is treated as a laptop. Never take them out. Or rarely. So sync is of no real use, stupid questions about stupid apps went away. And i have a cell phone and pocket mobile pc that works unlike android. I was always curious on organizing the 100’s of pictures the ex needed constantly. And your video did allow me to learn proper ios file keeping so to speak should i ever find myself in a similar situation. Bulk deleting does have some benefits to it as well. Lol.

The people & pets folder on my computer has only one pic of a person in it. I have hundreds of pics of people.
@TheMacWhisperer
@TheMacWhisperer 26 дней назад
In most cases, it will automatically find people.. in some cases, you have to do it manually. Go to a picture with a bunch of people, click get info and manually add a handful of people, and it should start recognizing them. You may need to jump-start it manually, but once you get it started it should start finding the people and pets you take pictures of automatically.

Why don't you want your pictures in Photos? That's where they should be. From there, you should organize them into albums and folders, and if you no longer want the pictures, just delete them.

@@TheMacWhisperer see i have stored my personal files and images in icloud. Those images should not pop up in photos app. Photos captured using camera should be in photos app. Do you know about that
@TheMacWhisperer
@TheMacWhisperer Месяц назад
@@prabitprime So you are using the term "iCloud" a little loosely. I want to separate it into two separate discussions. First, iCloud photos… And second iCloud Drive (aka storage.) Based on what you are saying, I assume you are talking about iCloud photos. The way iCloud Photos works is that if it is turned on on any device, all files from that device are synchronized into the iCloud Photos library. There is no separation between photos taken on your iPhone, and photos stored in your computer. This is the way it was intentionally designed: you have one place for everything rather than some things on one device and something somewhere else. This may require you to create some folders to organize, sort, and separate the things that are personal from those taken on the iPhone's camera. If you want to separate your devices so that your computer only has personal stuff, and photos from the phone only go to the iCloud (but not to the computer) you need to turn off iCloud photos on the computer… But it means new pictures will not come over from the phone without you manually importing them. If you're talking about iCloud Drive (a.k.a. storage), it is completely manually created and managed. Photos taken on your phone will not automatically go to the iCloud Drive, and you can choose and select which files and documents you want in iCloud versus the ones you want to be stored locally. Ultimately you have control about what synchronizes to iCloud and what doesn't… But by using iCloud photos and all devices everything is in one place and can be organized once with all your files located via folders and albums as opposed to a separate library on separate devices. If what you want is separation, turn off the iCloud photos on whichever devices you do not want to talk to the cloud. I hope that is helpful information and thank you for watching.
