What I probably didn’t mention is it’s also good (if you want to do this) to build a relationship with a client you see yourself doing more work with, I would love to do heaps more work with Harley Davidson and love the brand so I’m happy to discount the price a little but for other jobs I’ve done I have charged much more 😁🙏
The pictures, your time, your gear, your experience and the finished results are worth more - BUT it all depends on the client. I'm sure you gauged the client and made an offer he couldn't refuse. Good job!
I asked a guy who was sitting in his McLaren if he wanted a free photoshoot of his car. He said yes and after the shoot, he liked the photos so much that he ended up paying full price for them. Moral of the story, be pleasant to work with, get it done fast, and most importantly overdeliver.
I did a paid car shoot at the track at some point. They had a second car which i thought i would snap a few pics of as something extra. Turns out it was not there second car... it was a random car lol Anyway contacted the race team because i already made and edit the pictures and send them to the team. They loved them too and paid me fot it, later they used it for an article in a magazine :D First time my pictures got in a magazine.
@Cherian Philip nice ive done that for 2 years straight. Finally bought my camera a few months back. But to he honest i went with the latest and greatest (fuji xt4) but i think i would be as satisfied with an xt1 of 2 lol it isnt about the camera. Just have fun and enjoy the proces of it🙏 more important than having the latest and greatest even if its really tempting to get an expensive camera. Save some money on trips or doing sick things to take photos😎🤘🏼
Just wanna share a success story - went to a new dessert restaurant that opened up near me, new location in the franchise. Offered the owner a free commercial video shoot, and he loved the final product so much he wants us to shoot his other locations, paid ofcourse. I literally went up and asked him, and it worked out!
@@SmokeNMirrorless Haha enjoy! No regrets, did it, got experience and had fun, learned a lot. Now I have a much better idea of what I like to shoot. Now "steal" my client that I can't work with because I have a full time job that I love 😉 Still getting videos on the side and much more in line with my passions 🙏
Price also covers the gear and the post process time as well. Most start out charging $0 and then when they build their name it becomes an income. You also got a job for a larger company who will gladly pay that much. Great video my man.
In the other hand, if you are so pro you can charge 20k shooting with an arri or with a a7III, value will be the same because your work will be gold for the client anyway.
Preach mate! The biggest challenge is getting out there and shooting. As you grow your work will speak for itself, but you have to remember to adjust your prices accordingly. You'll never get anywhere charging $200 per night especially if the time it takes you is well above that price.
better to discount for a first-time customer though. i did the same with Visit Australia when I worked for them. Do the first project cheap or even on a contra basis and then if the client likes it they'll have the confidence in you to pay more for future projects
This is 100% the way to go. Even tho I'm just starting and trying to focus more on Architecture photography (because I studied architecture), I've always loved and rode bikes. That allows me to have a lot of friends who do as well. I shot a bunch of them, and without even looking for it I just got approached for the first time to do my first paid motorcycle shoot.
Im so happy i found this guy! been following for a while now! same with 7th.era and what i learned is.. you wont get nowhere just watching the videos.. actually listen to this guy and GO OUT!! my car shots are getting better every time i go out🖤‼️ great channel keep it up
So today I had my first Freelance Client, just a quick 1 hour portrait session and I made $80, I charged $60 and he tipped me $20, so If I could do it, you could too! I am super excited for more clients it was awesome working with them in what I love doing!
You charged correctly. People will pay for the quality of what you do. If you want to make a living you have to charge for your craft. Fare price for good work. Well done.
Im getting some ideas for my channel. I have 2002 Honda vtr so this will help tremendously. I just finished watching all of your car photography vids again. Getting my WRX has made me want to do more (also going to be on my channel). Keep up the good work. The boys appreciate it 👍
you are completely right about charging the right price, the photos are sick and you ARE an awesome photographer, there's no reason to charge less for such good work!
It's been 2 years since I became member of your channel and still feels the same enthusiasm and energy in you...even after lockdown...will keep supporting ❤❤
YOUR CHARGE WAS RIGHT BECAUSE A PHOTOGRAPHER PUTS ALOT OF EFFORT AND TIME TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL SHOOT. THE TIME CHARGE, THE GEAR CHARGE, THE TRANSPORT CHARGE AND MANY OTHER. THE PHOTOS YOU CLICKED WERE MIND-BLOWING. I LOVE THEM.
Hi im from Philipines and im starting photography, I dont have any ideas in my first free shoot for my niece and fuck i got some dope shots, I always watch your videos and Peter McKinon tutorials and men you two give me such a knowledge to do and donts sorry for my english but i just wanna say. Thankyou For Teaching me how to shoot photos !! You DOPE
i just want you to let you know, that i love your videos, and your video are motivating me to make photography, it's been a year seance learning, im still scare how to monetize photography, i just feel that im not prepared and having a d5600 some lack of equipment makes me insecure after watching all the amazing pictures like yours. hope i can start making business photography in Mexico even tho it's kinda cheap, but hope i can make a brand one day. one of my photos went viral, i guess if i never started, it wouldn't happen, so it's thanks to you, take care.
Don’t worry about the equipment. I’ve been shooting on my Nikon D3200 for the past 8 years and I still use it occasionally in art school, surprising everyone with the photos I can get out of it just because I know every single detail about that camera. Invest in good glass and time. That’s all you need.
I really like your videos and the style of your photos. Also always with good explanation, I get a lot of inspiration from you. Awesome! keep it up and keep surprising us with the great videos and photo. Greetings from the Netherlands
Hey champion.. like watching your vids.. I am new to photography. I never thought about walking around the streets taking random photos so been starting to do a bit of that around my town..
Oh no, I am 100% on board with your pricing. Starting up freelance portrait photography, I was very timid on pricing and I would feel bad about putting a price tag for something I wouldn't pay for as an amateur. Now doing some shoots of my own, the photos and the hours on the field don't justify the pricing for the labor and the time behind the scenes as for editing. I actually got inspired by your old videos where you went up to random places asking for freelance photography and bought a Sony myself. Granted being an a7II, I plan on working my ass off to pay off the money spent and selling it so I can upgrade in the near future. Thanks man for being a main inspiration to my craft. You've been a great help you and your mates 🙏🙏🙏
Love your work man since I was furloughed I have been hooked on your vids and getting into photography and saving up for my first Sony !! Incredible shots my friend !! Peace from London 🇬🇧
Not gonna lie I was expecting you to say even more money. Night time car/bike stuff is your specialty man and you’re great at it. Definitely an inspiration
Let's make something crystal clear. You didn't HAVE to share information about your charges. You CHOSE to. That is you giving people a window into a potential future business, when you didn't really have to. That spirit of sharing is incredible. More power to you Mike!
Fun fact: 2 weeks ago i got out to shoot, and literally 20 meters away from my homes door there is a barber shop. I was taking random photos around there, the owner saw me and he was like: "Yo, can you take some photos of my place aswell?'' and i was like.. uuuhmm yeah? (havent got paid once in my life for doing a photoshoot). Long story short i offered him a 50$ job just because he told me that he was in search of a photographer and the lowest he found was 80 and still was expensive for him so yeah. Even tho he changed his mind about the photoshoot (idk why), i am a really good example of 'go out and try' and even tho i never asked him if he wanted photos for his barber shop, he reached out to me. So grab your camera and go out! Thank you Mike for all this push and confidence you have achieved to give me in every video of yours! And i know im not the only one. Cheers moite.
Quality content man!! The fact that you both teach editing, charging, managing, clients, location and roadmaps in one video os just awesome man. If if could mention one thing i would love to hear also is the amount of time you put in, how long did it take to plan, how many hours where you out that night etc.
Randomly stumbled on to this vid. I agree, I got my start shooting motorcycles for fun and then it opened up for me shooting for some major motorcycle brands. Although COVID lock downs this year substantially made things really hard to get jobs so been shooting local riders mainly for fun again till these crazy times pass.
One of the best videos I've seen in a long time! It was dope to see how you got the job, and how you delt with the client. Also, thanks for being open about how much you charged. Making money from photography videos are in my opinion the best vids on youtube and you have made some really good ones.
One thing I think you should have mentioned is, clients are paying more for your following, you're basically advertising their product AND producing the content. your audience seeing these photos will generate sales in the long run so in terms photography, the price is a bit high but for the advertising, $1600 is cheap
Great video and that knowledge and experience of Melbourne is priceless. Being new to the city you have to learn everything about it which is really hard work. Great skills, photography and knowledge is what you are paying for, well done dude.
I love these type of shoots. I've started using your multiple shot techniques, sometimes with flash. It works great, thanks. From Victoria, but the one up in Canada.
literally been having anxiety all day bc i’ve been seriously debating focusing on photography full time instead of going to school and this video was a push in the right direction, thank you mike been a subscriber for a long time
Bro if you love it, honestly just take that leap and stick to it and as long as you’re having fun and are passionate about what you do you’ll be fine 🖤
I had my first wedding a few days ago and leading up to that I’ve been talking more about photography and posting more - just booked 4 shoots. Just keep shooting
For me you should charge minimum twice as much depending that you shot for HD - for them, as a brand, it is a cost of an electricity in one dealer shop. But it is just my opinion. Great photos, cheers.
And that price probably doesn't include any kind of licensing fee for usage. That doesn't seem too much at all. Could you do a video going a little more in depth about what kinds of things you include in your "proposal packet pdf"? I'm really interested to see it done like thta with something the client can really visualize rather than just a price breakdown spreadsheet
great job, but i question, isnt the shadow of the bike with the train photoshop a little fked? the light bumbt in sideways and the train/tram should have stoped the light
Well said NB! The shit you've been creating with Simmo is lit, it's always good working with the pro riders as they can hit the marks to help you achieve your final images plus add that style.
