@du0plex369 how's it going so far if you don't mind with as much detail as possible and if you have any advice for a high school senior who's currently on track to do a option 40 contract
In AIT I used to go straight into the dorm gym directly after PT(no battle buddy needed in the dorm) and get lifting in. Luckily there were a few guys who wanted to do longer zone 2 style runs on the weekend and also hit the gym too. Make friends with those people! I'd have almond milk mixed with a scoop of protein and cereal in the mornings after PT and lifting instead of the DFAC because that allowed me to streamline actually getting something out of PT. Sometimes when CQ was from 0200-0300 I'd hit the weights afterwards before PT. If you want something, make it happen.
@@samadhistrength There are definitely some people who like to put in more work. If there isn’t, leading by example will likely get people to follow. At least that’s how it happened for me. Great work!
I wasn’t crazy fast, but my 2 mile usually sat around 12:00-12:30 minutes. I have a video on running improvement you can check out but you guys are always free to message me directly on my instagram (link in description)!
Dude lemme tell you this about Regiment. My first day I got there was a donza so my team leader came out to meet me shook my had and said. "Well it's a donza that means we have the day off" I responded, "hey that's cool". Then he responded "well not for you we are gonna smoke the fuck out you all day". I was then smokes all day. Awwww the memories.
Hey I’m interested in going down the same route you took in being a Ranger. Right now I’m only doing body weight exercises pushups, pull ups, and sit ups but a ton of volume and haven’t seen much progress. My thinking was to do lifting Monday, Wednesday, and Friday but incorporate some body weight work at the end of my workout. Do you think this is a good approach and if so what would that look like in terms of sets and reps?
Just gonna add what I work for those days. M-chest and triceps W-back and biceps F-legs Also for Sunday I work shoulders plus I usually go balls to the wall on these workouts the typical sets and reps would be 3x8 but I try to lift as heavy as I can
@@masonstout3426 Lifting would absolutely help. That’s a great workout split to get started and once your body gets used to the lifts you can add more exercises, sets, and eventually more days into your workout. The goal is high volume for performance based pt results. I would like to remind you to not neglect your nutrition or sleep as they are easily the most overlooked aspects when it comes to training and are arguably more important than your workouts.
Great Video JOSHUA!!! But I have two questions I hope you can help me with. What are tempo runs and can you give me an example on a workout training for the 2 or 5 mile. And my second question would be what is your ideal running schedule for the train up for rasp.( 1 tempo day, 3 easy runs days, 1 sprint day, and a long run day) in case you didn’t understand my question.
A tempo run is where you run at a sustainable pace usually around heart rate zone 3-4 around 40-60 minutes or more depending on your training goals. Your running schedule looks fine. The more you improve I would suggest more tempo runs than easy runs. For reference, each week at regiment we ran around 20 miles per week.
@Dione_7 The pace is dictated by your heart rate since most people are at different fitness levels. For reference, tempo runs in my squad pt were around a 7:00-8:00 (minute) mile pace.
The author pointed out tacos a few times. If you are burning 5000 calories a day training then eat the tacos. Get your macros. The only thing you may need to skip is the absolute crap. If you're only burning 3,000kcal then yes you need to be much pickier with the food, I like volume when I eat so that necessitates lower calorie options.
Hey i’m leaving for the army july 15th so very soon my contract is 25H with airborne in it. i’m 18 years old but im working my ass off so once my 4 year contract is up i can put in a option 40. would you think im to old for that since ill be 22. and also im 5’10 175 and i suck at running far distance but i know i just have run farther for longer. but my 2 mile is 14 min. any tips on how to run a 35 min 5 mile? and do you think i should cut weight because most guys i see passing rasp are very lean but have a lot of functional strength.
As far as running tips, I have a running video breaking down how to improve. I wouldn't be concerned about your age until you are 35 years old or older. But if you are really concerned about it, you don't need an option 40 contract in order to go to RASP. You will have multiple opportunities to volunteer throughout AIT and Airborne school. The time you will be going through those schools is more than enough time to train up for the standards at RASP just manage your time properly. I hope this answers your questions!
@@jstewthompson hell yeah that answers my questions and definitely going to checkout that video. hope you make it big one day sir. maybe even try to get on the sean ryan show since there’s not many rangers on there!
Thank you! I was a 35F without airborne or option 40 because MEPs doesn't understand how broken bones work. I then volunteered for RASP and airborne comes with that.
@@Anonymous-DoGooder During OSUT your schedule is more controlled and you’ll have to devote all the time you can get to train. I would recommend showing up to OSUT already in enough shape to pass RASP.
Did you train for rucking before you got into OSUT? I hear it's pointless to train for ruck marches before going in because you tear yourself down too much before going in. And instead, doing lower body workouts with weight and LOTS of running.
i have so contract and leave in aug but thinking of pushing date back a little to improve on 4 mile run but i know once we are in prep we need better PT scores to I would love to see a pull chest workout that you would do to up your push ups numbers I say your other video talking about tips and the pacing was smart I prob added an extra 10-15 push ups but I am stuck around 75-80 and am tryna get 90+
Hey man. I would recommend adding weighted dips to your chest workouts. Progress may come slower but you are making progress as long as you are consistent.
Hey Josh, missed out on going into the military out of highschool. Got a year left of college with a degree in Cybersecurity and have a good job lined up. If I were to go into the military would going officer make the most sense or just try for an option 40? Or should I try to do something like gaurd where I might be able to work my job too? What would you say, it has been a childhood dream of mine and recently been re-ignited.
Hey @@duncanstewart2439, I can’t make the decisions for you and it’s a unique position you’re in. I think the smartest decision is to not enlist and go the officer route and possibly then move on to work for an agency. Officers and higher enlisted after a year of service can then attend RASP 2 which is a different selection than RASP 1 for lower enlisted. Let me know if you have further questions on my instagram (link in the description)!
@@jstewthompson Okay gotcha sounds good. I actually have a contact in the DEA and was looking at that. I also saw that there is actually a cyber officer MOS in the regiment. Do support guys get to do fun stuff too? It would be pretty crushing to leave a sit at a desk all day job and complete a SF pipeline only to do a sit a desk all day job again.
@@FreeBirdVince of course but it’s tough to improve in BCT unless you’ve never worked out before. I would recommend going to BCT already RFT ready. As for working out, I recommend getting familiar with body weight exercises as that’s all you can do in BCT.
@@BUDOY209 Hey welcome! The answer is no I didn’t train specifically for RASP. I actually didn’t even know the 75th was a thing until I was in the military and volunteered. But to be fair I have never stopped working out since my sophomore year in high school. However, even though I was in solid shape joining the military, I would’ve definitely failed RASP if I didn’t train up. It sounds like you might be worried that if you didn’t train prior to AIT you won’t get into good enough shape in time. You have nothing to worry about. As long as you stay consistent, anyone can be ready in 2 months or less if they put in the work.
@@christopherpham5930 as long as it’s justified you can do any school you’d like. You’ll also get a lot more analyst training since we actually do our job and not the motor pool. I personally just went to airborne and Ranger school and some TDYs if that counts haha. The best opportunities IMO are deployments.
@@christopherpham5930 of course! If that's your goal, good luck man that's some serious work to get selected there! I was put on a detail for them once, very cool down to earth individuals!
@@jstewthompson im occupied by sports, academics and jrotc things. I'm planning to cut some things off but I'm somewhat important to everything I do. (drill, XC, only 120lb wrestler, track)
Understandable. I recommend asking the questions on what’s more important. Now in current present day as well as 5 years from now. Where do you want to be then. Based on that answer I think you’ll know what to do. I imagine nobody wants to peak in high school.
