U LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY. i think it's sooooo fascinating to think about how you meet new people and they dont know old things about you so i super appreciate this video

Thank you! For example I don't know much about you in all honesty! Like I know some things but there's so much more I could know but because of distance of always living in different cities it's almost impossible unless we talked every day.

This is extremely relatable on so many levels. When I watched your Hamilton video was when I first heard that you are a musician and vocalist; your cover of Feed The Birds was astounding! I used to tour playing drums with my old pop punk band for years before I got into magic and made a career out of it. It's so surprising because I still feel like the music is such a big part of who I am, I have been playing drums and bass for close to 15 years but little to no one knows about it. I will admit though, it is a little fun to surprise people and other musicians when we are hanging out. To just randomly grab a bass or hop on the drums and start playing with my experience and they have to do a double take, haha! Anyway, great video! I really enjoy the casual-chat style you've got going on here. See you in Orlando!

loved this! it's really important to remember that everyone is multi-faceted and has a whole history you don't know about. this topic makes me think of tumblr, weirdly - the way some people have loads of separate blogs each dedicated to different interests, but some people have blogs where they just throw in anything and everything they enjoy. and if you follow the latter, you get some random stuff popping up on your dashboard, and it's like "oh I never knew X liked that!"

True! That's a good example of how we show (or not show) our different selves on social media.

Ever since I saw your vlog where you talked about how hard it is to sing the National Anthem, I've thought of you as a musician. SECRET'S OUT!

Oh! Haha well that's good. I mean if there is anyone who is an internet acquaintance I would have guess you would know. Just because of that Christmas song we did!

I totally understand this feeling! I feel like I have so many selves that I can't keep track of let alone other people. I'm this intelligent person at school, but I also write poetry and play piano almost everyday. I am also a part of a lot of activist groups at my school and I love read but I have no one to talk about books to. There is so much more but that's the thing. Everyone is complex and have aspects to themselves we will never realize but that's the beauty of life I guess. Humanity and identity are complex and we have to be open to others possibility as much as ourselves
@MaryAkemon

Agreed! A great summary of my thoughts here. Which for you is the most public?
@thoughtsofgreta

My academic side is definitely more public than my creative or even political side in my real life but my creative and political sides are more prominent online. School is the place to engage academically with people whereas online caters to more creative and/or political engagement. We shape all these identities to match the environment we are around but we are all of these things, no matter what side of ourselves we are showing to the world. Sometimes I get aggravated that people do not know and I cannot share all of myself with the world but that is why it is important to view each other complexly. We are all some much more than the one dimensional identities and labels that we project of ourselves and understand of others. I think it all comes down to the human condition of categorizing each other inspire of the fact that we are all too complex to fit those labels. This is such an interesting topic and such and insightful video. I hope you are having a wonderful day!

I totally understand what you mean. When I graduated high school I left behind a lot of communities that I was a part of. Unfortunately, when I got to college I found it very difficult to get back into those communities being that it was a new environment. People that I meet now don't really see me, you know? They see me as an average student and not for everything else that I am.

Yeah I can see that. I'ma cradle Episcopalian and I did SO MUCH youth group type stuff throughout high school. But then, when I got to Uni I couldn't seem to keep that going, because of the new environment like you said. So now it's become, like music, a part of my past I feel very connected to but no one knows about.

I used to be pretty good at art, but since my middle school years of boredom and increasing interests in tech and science, I have become more interested in video production. With my background in creative things, I feel this is where I should be. But yet, I can never gather or build a support community to improve my skills or connect with others. Maine.

i used to do gymnastics and cheerleading and color guard and also musical theatre, and i was actually really good at all of those things. my favorite was probably musical theatre because i enjoy singing and acting, and it bums me out that i haven't done that since high school because it's not a viable career option. as you get older your time gets sucked up by Adult Shit and you've gotta make a choice about your hobbies and decide whether or not you want to do them full-time or just remember them as that-thing-you're-really-great-at-but-never-do-anymore. i just don't have the time or the drive to pursue acting as an adult.

I think an awesome thing for me is how I did karate for basically ten years of my life and the only reason I stopped was because I started uni and it wasn't convenient anymore but it's amazing how things you do for a long time do and don't become a big part of you and how they can impact you in ways you don't even realise
