I'll run into some problem with our refrigerator or our spa or an appliance, but their user manuals never even mention the issue, much less providing a solution. So I google it, and see lots of other people with the same problem, but the wide variety of suggested solutions either don't work or are too complex to waste my time on to try them. But then I'll find one or more RU-vid videos where the person has had exactly the same experience as me, and has discovered the simple and straightforward solution, and provides a video of the step-by-step actions to take to fix it. That makes it so easy. And (as in your case) the comments then are filled with people who went through the identical process and are profusely grateful. So once again, thank you.

No, it's highly unlikely in my opinion. All that happened here was that you gave an external website permission to send you messages - not to load software onto your machine. Now you have removed permission to send you the messages, so the problem should be gone. If you are worried that something may be on your machine, you should run an anti-virus or malware program, some of which are free if you do a search. If you have a PC, you should have that on your PC anyway. Windows Defender is built-in. Good luck.

Hi, no it's not on your PC, and never was. It's not malware and it's not a virus. What has happened is that you accidentally gave a website permission to send you messages. And now you have withdrawn permission, so they can never send you these messages again unless you turn the permission back on again.

No, If it just pops up in the right-hand corner and goes away after you deny permission to send you notifications, it's just a simple scam message. Viruses tend to stop your PC from running until you've paid a ransom, or they create strange effects on your screen, or simply spy on you quietly in order to steal your bank details or the like.

I recently went to look what cookies were on my computer and there were hundreds, so I gave up looking. Instead, I am now fully converted to the duckduckgo browser, which does not spy on you, and it blocks website trackers and supplies a record of the trackers that it has blocked. Anything that reduces spying by big tech is good in my eyes.

Yes, it comes down to what you know. After I fixed the issue and made the video, I told my youngest son - a gamer - about it, and his attitude was, 'Pop-ups are easy to get rid of, you should have just asked me.' Still, at least we know now, should it ever happen again.

If the ads are push notifications, they should only appear in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. So that should not stop you from going into settings? Anyway, I am not a PC expert, but you could look for a video on how to start your PC in SAFE mode, this may stop the pop-ups while you address the problem.

If your anti-virus detected it, then I assume it has quarantined anything that got downloaded. Usually with anti-virus softwares you can ask them for a report of recent activities, and they will tell you what they found and what they did about it.
