Sunfish Sailor, Lee Montes, shows Sunfish Sailboat Sailors a new Sunfish Part, a new cockput bailer. Lee also answers questions about Sunfish Sailing and Sunfish Sailboat parts. lee is NOT sponsored.
How about a Ronstan telescoping Battlestick? You can adjust it 29”-48” for all the lengths you show and I like the ball on the end. Is it not class legal? I’ve used one for years on my Sonar and Capri, and switch it back and forth with the sunfish.
I can see the point that having the bailer more efficient could help make a difference in racing. If you make it race legal, pretty much every racer's going to switch to it, which adds a cost. Maybe not a big cost, but considering the number of 'Fish out there, it adds up. Is there anything that should be put in the hole made for the bailer, to help keep water from intruding into the layers of the hull? Or do you think the rubber seals are enough?
The rubber seals will be enough. If you are concerned, remove the bailer and “butter” the fiberglass with some resin to make it water tight. Many boats have this done already.
