Im actually looking to try Premiere out myself. Avid is more stable but Premiere is better in effects from my understanding.

i began recently myself, its a very common editor in this industry that i know is very finicky and difficult to pickup on. Premiere is relatively straight forward in comparison but Avid is a must learn for anyone looking to be a serious video editor.

I am contemplating adding Media Composer to my toolbox. I like it's organization. Hopefully user interface updates soon; but, overall, it seems appealing.

Post landscape is changing, hopefully Avid MC can integrate Protools and some sort of VFX program into one stop shop- direct link from each other, otherwise, Avid won't be able to win adobe customers.

Hi Kevin, I'm trying switch from Premiere to Avid. I mostly prefer proxy workflow in premiere. I Transcode Red footage via RedCine X pro to lowRes Apple ProRes Proxy files, I edit using those proxy files, and when the edit is done, I give the xml file to colorist and he conforms it to original RED files. Can you make a turoial on working with those prores proxy files?

After reading the comments, wouldn't mind knowing why people are switching from Premiere to Avid. (I've been on Avid since forever but am wondering if I need to abandon it for Premiere since just about everyone else seems to be using this NLE. )

I'm mostly curious how the first NLE does it. I'm also a fan of having to option of perpetual use versus renting Adobe CC. I find Media Composer's media management intriguing. I like the structure. However, I would like to see it upgrade its user interface and integration with other software for Audio & VFX, similarly to how Premiere works with Audition and After Effects easily. Round-trip.

I need to work with Avid and that is Horrible - Im a adobe editor . Adobe makes all simples and easy to work - Avid is a mess with so little things just to complicate what is simple! One thing I hate on Avid is: The timeline is not "FREE", like a long timeline without nothing (LIke premiere), I need to put a shot video a minutes away, for have a free timeline to work! And more, that stupid changes from red and yellow arrows! I have a lot to hate! For me is the worst Editor Program ever!

The reason why hollywood editors like to use the avid is because of its stability and amazing playback performance, you can just simply add 8k footage without worrying the playback quality and avid is for big project like 1-3 hours and it’s still stable, unlike with premiere when the playback performance is not that good and also the stability. When i was editing a short film, it’s became buggy when i have alot clips imported. Thats the problem with premiere but honestly i also like the premiere than the avid. I hope premiere will update that so i can edit now on premiere with big projects :)
