I graduated with a master’s in Digital Forensics in 2018 and keep up with the technology, I still Practice with open source and free tools, keep up with methods and procedures and continue reading book after book. Still EVERY JOB announcement wants someone with 3 or more years of experience. I’m turned down for each one. Very discouraging. I have a B.S degree in Criminology and have been working as an investigator for 13 years. I am also a licensed PI in my state.

Are there any insurances, ect when opening your own firm that would be good to have?

Certifications cost money most of us don’t have. A certification using a program does not certify that you will be a successful investigator.
