OMG !! THANK YOU !!! You just saved my nerves. Have been back to flying on my PICO 4 after 4 months and only what i have was stutters with 26 FPS and DLSS on my RTX 4070Ti and almost no clarity at all !! Strugling to sort it out for last few days and BOOM ! Solution for all my problems !! Clarity is incredible!!! TAA, NO DLSS and 36 FPS on same settings. New level of expirience !!! THANK YOU !!!
Great video! I wonder how much performance uplift you’ll get if you upgrade your cpu. If I remember correctly, flight simulator is fairly cpu heavy even at higher resolutions. I believe your 4090 I is heavily bottlenecked at the moment.
I'm having issues with openXr toolkit while using VDXR runtime (fs2020 crashes) but the performance improves so well that I don't care about it. Jfyi 7800x3d and 4090 system. Solid 80fps.
The only two versions I could get was the 1.29 or as for beta was later than the beta in this video, then I could not get a beta version of the streamer, and neither program had any options for Open XR. So Virtual Desktop opened Steam VR which locked up MSFS and I could not get it to open Open XR. I went past my 2 hours so likely will not get a refund for VD. However, I find that 36 FPS with 15%-40% headroom left over with turbo on, and DLSS on quality gives me very smooth frame rates and performance so it was a waste of time and money for me. Thank you for the great video though. I prefer to stick to airlink, my quest 3 with Oculus desktop, and it is set and forget and just enjoy MSFS in VR as I have it tweaked and smooth as I am going to get it with a 9700k and an RTX 3070.
Thank you Mark, very good explanation. I just wonder, my PC is not really beefy with a GTX3060. I use the Quest 2 with the link cable. Is this Virtual Desktop still something I should try out even with the usage of a cable?
Is the toggle to go from screen to VR the one from MSFS or the binding in Virtual Desktop? I am having trouble figuring out what those bindings do within VD.
Hello, thanks for the interesting videos. Maybe you can help me with one thing. I don't know why I have very low sound level in msfs 2020, I use mq3 and virtual desktop and virtual audio driver, I have all sound settings set to max in the game and on my PC. Unfortunately, in Google, I have to set the volume to three to hear the sound clearly lines before the end of the scale in mq3 goggles. My ears are clean and functional, if anyone could he wanted to ask me about it. In other programs and applications, the sound is good level, the problem only occurs when I fly in msfs 2020. Thanks and best regards.
Hi thx for your video ...i choose VDXR in last steaming assistant and thats always steam vr running (automobilista 2) last VD beta (v1.29.5) and no openxr or vdxr menu nothing only steam vr running anitimes , i lauch the game in steam app or vd menu and not working thanx for your help
Thanks for all your videos... 1 Q) I have pico 4 and updated VirtualDesktop app on PC and pico4, but still steamvr seems to be launched... I have Options->OpenXR runtime set to VDXR. and VirtualDesktop versions are 1.29.10 so I assumed that these features are already rolled out ? I can't hit Ctr-F2 in virtual enviroment and get the openxr settings, and of course steamVr still seems to get launched.. any suggestions thanks.
I followed every step of your video but every time I switch to VR mode in MSFS, Steam Vr is blocked with miniature picture "En Attente" (waiting for in English) and I can see in my monitor the Simu is running with the images typical of VR. I use a brand new PICO 4 in Wifi. Do you have an idea? thanks in advance for your help.
@@SimHangerFS I tried it bu nothing happen. The controller doesn't appear in the window and no button is working. I have to close Steam VR in my PC to close the program.
Mark i got to ask you... I have been sitting and waiting for the world update 15, as described in all magazines and flightsim sites through out the internet should be here on october 31.... Now i am told, that it was just for beta users??? Can you tell us what is going on? and when to expect is for all the rest of us??
@@RolandDobbins Correct. If you live without too many other humans around, like is probably your specific case, but I was not advising you that you needed to go to WiFi 6, you just chimed in. But the video clearly shows that he is not getting all the bandwidth he could get, proving that the 5 GHz frequency (not just the network, because a network uses a frequency band) is too loaded. Going to WiFi 6 and AX3000 allows to use the whole VD bandwidth and have 200 Mbps. And almost 400 with H.264+.
@@jango71 - your attempted gibe aside, WiFi 5 supports up to -867mb/sec/user. If there isn’t a lot of RF conflict & if the overall network infrastructure, including the APs in question, isn’t oversubscribed, it works very well with Virtual Desktop & Quest 3. In my household, there are multiple people browsing Web, watching Netflix & RU-vid, etc. Yet I achieve low latency & high fps in MSFS 2020 at Ultra settings & 1.5x resolution in the Quest 3, all on a WiFi 5 network, using 10~bit AV1.
@@RolandDobbins Again you put as an example you and your household. The video shows he is getting 120 Mbps when he could get 200. My advice was to him and not to you. Move on, I will.
I have a pico but yeah it's absolute bloody torture. It had me vomiting in my lap today because the damn settings screen are in VR. Or were because now they are gone. I appreciate the hard work from Mark and the software authors but all up its a bloody shit show.
Make sure your pc is wired to router,Start virtual desktop on pc then start it on quest 3.then you start msfs, when loaded you should get the option to select vr mode,it will play it through steamvr automatically.i dont use oculus app on pc at all,i find it runs worse through that for me
Hello, I don't know how to run msfs without steam? how do you do it in the video... can you advise me how to do it? I can't find a direct exe file, does one even exist? how do you make it run msfs without first running steam?
Virtual Desktop requires SteamVR by default. It will not run without it. This video shows how to run VD bypassing SteamVR. It is still installed though.
One important thing I noticed by accident: When you have your headset on, make sure your MSFS (or whatever other application you're using) window is in focus on your monitor. I didn't notice that I brought some other window up while being under the headset (probably with Alt-Tab). MSFS keeps running, but not being in focus seriously impacts your FPS. It went down from 50 ms down to about 16 ms after correcting it (seen in the VD performance panel).
fyi my quest didn't update automatically had to do it via the quest 3 app page. probaly my settings still new to this, also its now ver 1.29.4 for info of your subs. many thanks again
I'm pleasantly surprised that my ancient system, i7 with 2080 super, does a decent job with the Q3. I assumed that I would have to immediately move to a 3k+ new system. That will happen soon, but it's hard to swallow replacing a computer that is only about 3 years old.
The beta virtualdesktopXR works great for me. I'm now able to run Golf+ in VR via virtualdesktopXR which gives me much better graphics. Thanks for the video, appreciate it.
This update has me very torn on Q3 vs Crystal. The Q3 at max bitrate (HVEC or AV1) in VD is so good, the lenses are so forgiving and clear over a huge area, and the headset is light weight and low inertia. Even if they were the same price I might actually prefer the Q3 to the Crystal. I own both and while the Crystal does have higher PPD, IMO MSFS looks really good in both. What are your thoughts?
I've just given this a shot with my Quest Pro, which has always felt unstable and warpy for me, cabled or wireless. This feels absolutely amazing, drag racing a Juice Goose and plane spotting in Houston at 40-45fps with incredible quality. However I can't bring up OpenXR toolkit, the menu shows up stuck way at the bottom of my FOV, I'll have to look into that so I can get my "sunglasses" back in post-processing. Thanks for the video!
Oh, that's good news, because I just just a massive upgrade in performance. My gratitude will hold me off until they fix the bug. Thanks for the info, Mark. @@SimHangerFS
It is not only wired against wireless, but what you have in a wireless headset against what you have in a wired one, due to the differences in the sizes of the markets that fund them. Wireless headsets are made for the masses and sold by millions, and can have powerful processors and the expensive development that goes with them. Specialised headsets sell in the tens of thousands. The processor in the Quest 3, the XR2 Gen 2, is capable through SSW of DOUBLING the fps sent by my 30-series Nvidia card (3080 Ti FE), much more economically for me than doubling the fps through a new card acquisition: It gives better visuals than my Reverb with DOUBLE the fps. It is insane. The lens is a big part of it because it avoids the huge oversampling needed for Fresnel lenses, but the processor helps with this fps multiplication (x2, let it sink). It is heavier than the Reverb, yes, I have to charge it from time to time, true, and it is still less stable than the HP, but it will eventually get there. I was convinced until two weeks ago that the future of PC sim VR was wired. I am now certain that the future is wireless, and quite close in time, because both markets will merge as the Q3 has proven it can happen.
@@Glider324SSW in VD is nowhere near ASW Oculus - ATM … Mark mentions it’s being worked on so hopefully will improve but for now if you want decent frame interloping I believe you are better off with Link or Airlink but hopefully that’s gonna change soon because artifacting in ASW is a pain. I can only tolerate MSFS with some form of space warp and VD still has a way to go IMO 😊
@@freshs5647 ASW smoother … but it’s always been a personal preference because some people just can’t stand the artifacts. For me I choose artifacts over stutters any day.
Hello, I am expecting the delivery of the Quest 3 today. Do I need to install steam if I am going to use virtual desktop XR now instead of the steam version? Thank you
Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos! Your channel is my go-to for MSFS and vr in general. I have a couple questions if I may: Can I use the virtual desktop XR runtime with the Steam version of MSFS, and also my sim setup is not near a internet outlet and I read that the new versions of VD require an active internet connection. Is it possible to use a nested router system with the main unit plugged in the wall internet access and then one of the remotes plugged directly in to my PC? Thanks again!
Hi Mark, I have downloaded VR desktop on my gquest 3 and thestreaming program on my PC. when I go to th Virtual Desktop page and click on the version to change it I Only get one option version 1.29.10.0 Do you know how I can get the beta version? i watched all your videos but i cant find it. Thx so much for your help
Can we use VDXR for G2 for say DCS etc. or is not compatible? Is OpenVR using the Open Composite Switcher not just the same? I get far better FPS using that for any SteamVR e.g. E:D ; Star Wars Squadrons ; and for DCS I use the Launcher Line: "--force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR"
Hello, i am a beginner in VR. I followed your tuto and all works fine for the pico 4. My average FPS is 25 (TAA, high settings) with a rtx 4090 but an old core is 8700. When I am in VR my monitor still displays a double image on the screen. I think the GPU works for nothing. How can I deactivate the monitor when I am in VR mode ? Thx 8
@@SimHangerFS Thank for your answer ! Now there is a bug in VR, which seems to be present since a long time, the tool bar is missing during the fly ! I saw a trick about the shortcut CTRL--0, but not try yet.
@@mbucchia Thank you for the reply it turns out that it’s working for me, the openxr toolkit just appears way above my head for some odd reason, not sure how to place the menu back at eye level.
Thanks Mark. I will dive in again and try sort it out for my Pico. I have God like hardware but only managed to make things worse. Am I unrealistic to want to be able to read the text on my g1000 panel knobs without sticking my head under the glareshield?
OMG so nauseous. The good news is that MSFS seems to have stopped crashing when I toggle In and out of VR. Framerate while flying in featureless terrain in the Australian outback is around 90 fps. Well it should on a i9-13900KS with RTX4090 But I can't see shit on my panels. The EFIS are a dark smear. Outside view isn't so bad. Can't test more. I gotta throw up.
