Yes you never know when you might feel compelled to shoot up a group of children. I love how all the ammunition in California fires “cooked” in the fires. With the drought and extreme heat , fires are a real threat. Guns will be very useful when the land around you is on fire.

Best way to go is Sawyer mini filters. We’ve had a big Berkey for eight years now and we love it however the filters are extremely expensive compared to Sawyer and there is plans on the web showing how you can turn those little mini filters into something like a Berkey. $20 goes a long ways with those.

I was driving a car way before cell phones were invented. I live in the mountains and it can be cool even in the summertime. My dad used to tell me before I drove anywhere away from home; take enough warm clothes with you. Because you can never tell if your car will break down, and you have to walk, and sleep in the woods. Especially if you are alone and hypothermia starts setting in; by the time you recognize it, it's just about too late. Building a fire is great but a lot of times you don't want to give away your position according to the circumstances. I carry a few steel traps in my bug out bag they hunt for me, while I am sleeping. ** God Bless You All.**

When/if the economy gets better.... people have to learn to think ahead. It's very difficult to prep in times like these when stores are already out of things and everything is up 10-20% All the good deals go away. I am a 67-year-old grandma who has never, ever been drunk. But every year I make a trip to my local liquor store to buy Vodka. I have been making elderberry syrup (ingredients: Dried elderberries, honey, and Vodka) every flu season for the past 15 years. In all that time, my husband and I have not had flu. We kept taking it, every day, right through the COVID pandemic, and didn't get COVID. Don't take any kind of "vaccines," by the way. So, Vodka is important.

Alcohol is merely a poison when you drink it. There are no physical health benefits to orally consuming it. Catching a cold has less to do with what you consume but rather exposure. There are so many parts per million your body can handle. If you have good hygiene and stay away from someone with a stuffy nose or a cough, wash your hands often, and touch as little as possible, that's all you really can do without starting to giving up a normal lifestyle. There is a specific honey that has antibiotic properties, however, regular honey does not boost your immune system in any way. It is simply sugar. Get the medical grade honey(don't eat it) as I've seen it work on infections(open wounds) time and time again. It is not as effective as antibiotics but could prevent the need for them. Cut recovery down by about 25%. You may just have a good immune system or good hygiene habits and that's probably why you don't get sick. If you like drinking your elderberry martini, keep making it. It probably tastes pretty good though I've never had elderberry before. The elderberry healthier without all that pure sugar(honey) and alcohol however, it needs to be enjoyable. Elderberry isn't the end all be all. If you have a good routine diet, you'll get what you need to have a good immune which it already seems you do. The goal isn't to boost the immune system but prepare it for when it's needed. We don't want boosted immune system but just balance in the body. That is when we are a peak health and essentially how God designed us.

Excellent and timely topic...also, recommend planting a garden...fresh veggies are healthy and tasty. Get enough seeds for 3 years and store the seeds in a refrigerator (in case seed supplies inflate or difficult to find). Even if you are in an apartment, put planters wherever you can. Suburbanites, create raised gardens in the backyard, plant fruit trees and hidden fruit (strawberries, raspberries and even watermelon) in your front and back flower beds...also discuss ideas with your County's Master Gardener. If you have land, look to your Ag Extension agents for ideas if you do not have a garden. In six to eight weeks you should be able to start harvesting...enjoy! After that you are ready for the rabbit hole. I'm a buyer for a large chain grocery store for the pet commodity. The four most common reasons why we can't get product on the shelves: - Raw materials needed to be protected for sustainability. (You can't cut down all the trees for toilet paper today because you need trees for toilet paper six months from now.) - Manufacturing centers were shut down and disinfected when *_any_* employee was diagnosed with XXX. (It's routine anyway for norovirus and a few others per health code.) - Not enough people work in the labor pool to keep up production. - Not enough skilled labor doing routine maintenance and QA/Q led to an increase in contaminated goods being recalled. Fishing gear. There are fish to be caught. Another simple protein source. Plant food bearing plants around your house. Maybe a supply of seeds and the gardening tools required to grow them. Freezer bags or canning products for storage of your harvest. A vacuum sealer and bags could be handy. Vacuum pack those frozen items to make them last longer. Get items that last “forever” first. You’ll need them with or without a crisis so the money won’t be wasted and if crisis is delayed the shorter lifespan stuff will have been purchased closer to the crisis. Examples; ammo, propane, toothpaste, deodorant, floss, toilet paper, fuel cans, etc… after having plenty of “forever” lasting stuff, then work your way from longest lasting to shortest lasting. This is coming from someone who prepared in the early 2000s and thousands of dollars were wasted. Buy great stuff that lasts forever, and don’t buy “off brand” just to get more because you likely won’t alternate it out and then it just gets expired. We only store what we actually use, not knockoffs.
@speedogg7319
@speedogg7319 2 года назад
You make some very good points. Also people need to remember that expiration dates are just dates. Many times they last much much longer. Usually they start to lose their quality but are still very much edible and nutritious. I have personally eaten canned goods that were more than 40 years old. (Disclaimer: I do not recommend this.) :-)

This is one of the most likely and devastating short term non kinetic crises considering how many countries effectively run on a cashless system. My wife and I have been quietly stocking up the last month. No matter happens we will use what we bought. Better safe than sorry.

I’m trying to get my wife fully onboard. I haven’t started prepping but I know that my next Home Depot and Walmart run will be hefty. The food and tools seem most important to me out here in the rural suburbs.

@@navyvet886 You don't have to go overboard. Maybe spend an extra 20 to $30 per shopping trip. That's a good way to start. Try to convince your wife gently that this is for the well being and safety of you both long term.

@@IndelibleHD definitely will. I’m in a newer construction home so our fridges aren’t that big, meaning I’ll have to get a deep freezer now and a generator to ensure all the meat doesn’t go bad. (As far as bad weather).

@@navyvet886 We have a chest freezer in our basement. Lots of panfish filets and steer meat.

@@IndelibleHD that’s what’s up. I feel it’s time. Too many red flags and I am not ashamed to admit, I fell victim to not being able to get certain things out the store during the initial kick-off of Covid. It was wild here in Alabama. Tissue was like gold bullets dipped in Hennessy lol

Don't buy more flour than you will use in a year and as you use a bag up buy a new one and rotate. Flour goes bad after a year or so. And no pop top canned food.

Freeze flour and like items 4 days. (I thaw and repeat) Put up in mylar. Will keep w/o bug issues.

Do your best to start at least a small food garden and any livestock like chickens or goats (neither needs a lot of space and produces a lot of different products for you to consume and sell) If you can, dig or pay a company to dig a well so you have water. If not find a spring or source of water you could go to to get water daily. Along with this, get yourself a water filter. Make sure you have a way to get to cook! Have a fire pit or a grill stored away or a camp stove along with some source of fuel like wood gas or charcoal. You need it to stay warm, to cook, and to purify water. I dont see this to be a prepper thing, but its all good to have. When we had that freeze in texas we were super lucky because we have a fireplace so we were able to stay warm and cook stuff. We always keep a couple cases of water around but we also have well water do we were good.

Any type of camping gear, cooking equipment, water storage and basic survival knowledge. I been prepping nonperishable for months knowing when stuff hits the fan, I'm ahead of lots of people. I'm building our homestead with vegetable production, fruit and berry plants/trees and honeybees.
