I enjoyed this video, always thoughtful consideration for a variety of lifestyles. You have always highlighted the importance of tax benefits, but you go way beyond that in bringing up topics that are also very important such as Year-round livability. Hurricane season is a real thing!! Even coastal countries such as Belize can occasionally get hit... when I lived there years ago a decision was made to move the "CAPITOL CITY" inland after Belize City was hit hard by a hurricane... While many still live there, the Important Governmental infrastructure was moved to Belmopan. You are always bringing in aspects that have such value, I loved the clip with the guy talking about the Bahamas :) made me smile a lot! THANK YOU!!!

I always thought there was a cap on contributions and not everyone had to pay it. Also I don’t think there is a requirement for Bahamian citizens or residents to contribute to National Insurance based on income earned outside of The Bahamas if they are not working for a Bahamian company. My understanding is if it were to be called an income tax it’s only valid to locally generated income or income generated while working for a local entity up to a specific amount.

I believe New Zealand did the same thing where they wouldn't let their own citizens return to the country. I don't know how they got away with it, but they did. Citizenship is supposed to afford an absolute right to enter the country. These countries ignored the law and were not held accountable for it.
@ji9464
@ji9464 2 месяца назад
Not correct. NZ did allow Citizens to return but you had to go through a 2-week quarantine period. Basically the government put you up in a hotel (at the government's expense) until you showed negative for COVID over 10 days. The rules did change throughout COVID, so at one point it may have been more restrictive, but certainly not for the duration.

I have a Brazilian passaport and I could get a Portuguese and Italian one through ancestry as well. Good thing is during bolsonaro Era in Brazil there was no federal lockdown and the country is bigger with many states and each state is almost an entirely country in its own(sort of like the US but less extreme unfortunaly, its a thing that we fight over there to give states more power) and my state in the south there were never a lockdown and the state is very europen like in climate and architecture and educated people. I always thought of moving out the country, but now I have another view of brazil even with the left Lula in charge. Working here, earning in dolars, living in the south i can also live in almost any south america country fairly easily( I think of Chile, uruguay and argentina sometimes) and go to almost anywhere in the world with no visa required(minus US which is hard and canada and AUS is easy visa, japan is now free visa along side most of europe). We just have to get out shit together over here, nuke states like Rio de Janeiro out of the existence(most corrupeted politicians are from there along a few other states in the northeast) and restructure the federal goverment because this country and south america has too much potential too be lost. So keep in mind. if you guys come to south american that's something you will have to deal with and help the local population fight and win.

2:22 "if you are a European citizen ... you might live in Spain". So here what you meant is if you are a citizen of a country that is part of European Union, you can reside in another EU country for unlimited time. I was thinking the same for a long time, until I stumbled upon information that if you reside more than 183 days per year, you need some special permit for EU citizens. I am not sure if it applicable for all EU countries, I just an example on Lithuanian MIGRIS Electronic migration services website: "I want to get a temporary residence certificate If you are an EU citizen and have come to live in the Republic of Lithuania for more than 3 months in half a year, you may be issued a certificate confirming your right of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania. If you are changing the certificate after its expiration date, you must attach documents confirming the right of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania."

This is stupid, no one cares about this in Europe. If you aren’t homeless and using social security nobody will care
@GZimmermann
@GZimmermann 3 месяца назад
I think there is a confusion between tax and immigration. An an EU citizen you have freedom of movement within the Schengen area. That means, you can live in let's say Spain. You should, however, register a tax number in the country you choose to live, so you can do the basic stuff in the country such as opening a bank account, rent or buy a propriety. As an EU citizen, this is a very straightforward and simple procedure. You pretty much just show up at the tax office and they will issue a tax registration number in the same day. That will not automatically make you a tax resident of that country, it simply means you have a tax ID in that country. If you are staying longer than 180 days in a fiscal year in a country you may be considered a tax resident. Maybe that's why some countries like Lithuania might have this requirement, because once you are issued a certificate like this you will be a tax resident.
@rustix3
@rustix3 3 месяца назад
@@GZimmermann Unfortunately I can't put a link in comments, it's been deleted by RU-vid as I understood. Let me again put a quote "If you are an EU citizen and have come to live in the Republic of Lithuania for more than 3 months in half a year, you may be issued a certificate confirming your right of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania." It talks about temporary residence and regarding 3 months in 6 months, so doesn't look like something regarding tax.
@captainhickey2608
@captainhickey2608 3 месяца назад
@@rustix3 So EU citizens have the right to work, buy property, live and reside in member states as citizens, enjoying the same 'overall' rights. For example someone French can move to Portugal, German to Lithuania etc. This freedom of movement does not make you a resident, you can stay as long as you wish but residency is where taxation becomes an issue and generally becomes relevant in most EU nations if you spend 6 months out of 'their' tax year there (countries have different tax years, so check), while working or earning. Lithuania may have decided you are a resident for services and tax purposes after 3 months, and if you intend to work and live there longer term that may be helpful. Individual member states can make these rules for themselves, so its worth checking where you have decided to be and for how long. (The wording in your quote for Lithuania says 'may' and for people staying long term it may be preferred for earlier access to services rather than a penalty) Residency or a residency certificate provides access to the countries services (healthcare, education, public transport etc like a local, e.g. if its free for them, its free for you) and as a resident you may be subject to taxation, that countries taxation even if employed somewhere else and working remotely paying tax to another government or corporate tax (there are also double tax agreements between countries which should also be checked to protect you over paying). As an EU citizen if you do not stay long enough to be a tax resident, you pay no tax there (although you may be liable for tax where you earn it or are paid). There is research to be done when you choose where you want to be. Taxation is complicated so you need to do your homework and only rely for your final financial decisions on the advice of qualified people, likely local accountants (never random people on social media).
@GZimmermann
@GZimmermann 3 месяца назад
@@rustix3 This procedure undoubtedly would have tax consequences, just as I mentioned before, regardless if it's Lithuania or Spain, you would have to register your residency formally in order to get a tax code from that country and open a bank account or buy property. In other words, it is not anything related to their immigration department (they could never deny an EU citizen residence for example).

Barbados also has several tax treaties with important tax planning jurisdictions which can be useful for international companies. As a man from the region I don't understand why Jamaica was mentioned in that mildly dismissive way alongside Haiti as if they are similar countries. Jamaica is the cultural capital of the region, the first to gain independence from the UK and has more to see and do than many of the other islands combined. Haiti has never been a stable country, is blighted by abject poverty and is currently dealing with a coup where all sorts of evil things are happening. It would be interesting to know what Andrew thinks about these regions if the world enters another war.

Haiti was a stable country. The problems started when when Haitians defeated the French military. They kicked Napoleons butt. Freedom from colonial slavery. Then Haiti had sanctions and embargo placed on it. I looked forward to going back to Haiti one day.😮
@MCharlerySmith

@@ericb9655. If you have to go all the way back to Napoleon then you have to acknowledge that Haiti was not a country then, but a colony. I don't think it has ever been a properly functioning, independent nation. Any stability seemed short-lived.

I thought once I reached a networth of 1M that I would be the badest cat in town. I quickly realized I wasn't... I feel more broke now than when I actually was dirt broke. The amount of people applying for these passports per year are insane, we're talking thousands per year. Each one has to be due dilligenced manually. It's impossible to do it overnight
