@@council55Gordon doesn't say about relationships with Alyx. He know that she friend, nothing more. He can not fall in love with Alyx, and just work with her.
@@chelol208Eli literally said go ahead son in episode 2 when he teased her by commenting how now that the suppression field is down we all have to do our part and how can't an old man wish for grandkids lmao
The fan action where he only says his name. Or the animation where he shouts no as it's masked by the elevator falling, really adds another later to him. Just a man of few words.
I have this fanon idea that, since hes relatively young and went straight from MIT to Black Mesa, where he lives on-site and gets a tram to work, he does not know how to drive. Thats why the boat and car sections in Half Life 2 are so chaotic.
I mean you’re kinda right, he worked somewhere in Europe (I forgot) studying teleportation before black mesa, but yes he and almost all employees lived on site to remain secrecy and save time
Wouldn’t he have started to learn to drive when he was 16 though? I’d rather chock up the horrible driving to the fact that the cars look like heaps of shit lol
@@christhefirst It depends, if you live somewhere like New York or LA you don't really *need* to have a driving license, I've meet 60+ year old mfs who have never driven a car before. But that's really uncommon. Although I suppose a theoretical physicist being this badass is pretty uncommon too.
The buggy from Half-life 2 is a manual, and he's still able to use it, not sure about the Muscle car from episode 2 tho, but judging by the sounds it makes when shifting, I would assume it is
Yeah, the GMan kept Gordon in stasis for 20 years. However in Gordons perspective it's only been like 3 or 5 days. Meaning, Gordon Freeman experienced the Black Mesa incident and taking down the Combine in only one week.
Actually, he didn’t notice at all, because mark laidlaw, (the story writer of half life 1, and 2) confirmed that Gordon’s was in a unconscious state, and unaware of how much time had passed, meaning to him it was more like a few minutes. Which is even worse in my opinion
@@Boofwax I think the point the original commenter was getting at is that the entire Half Life series takes place in the span of a week for Gordon. HL1 took about two days, HL2 about two and a half, and each of the episodes were a bit more than a day. And he went through it all with hardly a moment to rest. I feel so fucking bad for Gordon.
Semi-true. They combined a couple of the Half-Life developers faces, averaged it out and took the most striking parts and taped them together. That's how we ended up with the ponytail, glasses, goatee, stuff like that.
and Chell isn’t either. i love the explanation being “he’s a man of few words” and “she’s so pissed off with these robots that she just doesn’t talk to them”
@@hurricanejaney In Gordon’s case, I believe the devs must’ve decided to have him not speak cuz he’s supposed to be a stand-in for the player. An everyman of sorts. So basically, what the player thinks and says, is what Gordon thinks and says.
@@Brunoki22 out-of-universe, that’s the case for both of them. valve has explained that having the player character speak breaks immersion. i think it’s cool that there are in-universe explanations tho
The Gordon model we see in HLA has different facial features from the HL2 and HL1 version, I still think it's a great model, but it looks like they made him more nerdy looking.
The more HD games get.. the more the characters chance. Alyx from Half Life 2 looks a lot different from Alyx from the new game. She even looks older now.
Fun fact, in the first Half-life, the sounds of weapons, HEV, and interaction are voiced by Gordon Freeman. This can be seen if you let your opponent kill you in the third person. Gordon will have his mouth open as he voices "Pip-Pip-Peep-Peeeee" of HEV
thats actually a bug in the game's code, when valve was making character's mouths move, they basically made the mouth move for every sound attributed to them, so if someone was opening a door you sometimes can see them moving their mouth
some fun facts: 1. the HL2 prima guide goes into a hyper specific detail about his childhood, where he built a butane powered tennis ball launcher at the age of 6. 2.When Gordon is captured at the end of "Apprehension" in HL1, instead of the fade to black, there was going to be a third person cutscene from the POV of a security camera, although the idea was scrapped, Valve seemingly put a lot of work into it, as animations for Gordon and HECU grunts that were likely meant for the ambush can be found in the SDK and the files for the limited access Half-Life: Day One demo, such as Gordon getting pinned down and Hgrunts tackling, and diving down from a ledge, the cut Human Sergeant may have also been intended to be used in the scene as well, as he has a jumping down animation that could've been for jumping down from a tall crate, something that could easily hide him out of view from the player, but not the camera, every fan recreation of the ambush scene that I have seen has included him as part of it, so there seems to be a common fan agreement on him being part of it. 3. Despite Gordon being the series main protagonist, he is not one of the only 2 characters to appear in every official game/ expansion set during the Black Mesa Incident, those being the G-Man and Gina Cross, Gordon was meant to appear in Half-Life: Decay, in what was intended to be the true 9th mission, in where part of the mission Gina Gross and Colette Green attempt to rescue Gordon from the HECU and prevent his death, and would answer why the HECU didn't just shoot him when they had him captured, revealing that the two grunts planned to hold him over the garbage compactor and shoot him, resulting in his body falling in and then turning on the compactor, the two doctors successfully kill the grunts, but because Gordon is unconscious and no one is holding him, he falls in. Similarly to the ambush scene, animations for the scene were made with both Gordon and the grunt having two animations each for it, with Gordon having one for being held and then one for falling, and the grunts having one for holding Gordon and then one for shooting him, additionally the grunts have recorded dialogue for this scene, the voice lines in question are "alt_soldier04", "alt_soldier05" and "alt_soldier07" to "alt_soldier12", "alt_soldier06" is said to be made for mission 9 but the use of "they" in it doesn't make sense for 2 grunts talking to each other and Gordon, additionally the trash compactor area was redesigned in the PS2 port seemingly for this scene.
I think the most fascinating thing about his character is the fact that they kind of just gave him the last name Freeman in the first game. Then in half life 2 almost everyone partnered with the resistance views him as a messiah figure making the name freeman almost biblical. Really makes the player feel important to the world they’re in and gives his character a mythical aura no other video game protagonist has.
I actually didn't like this bit. The Black Mesa Incident was supposed to be a relatively small-scale event, taking place at a top-secret base out in the middle of nowhere, with only a handful of scattered survivors, yet some ten years later everyone and their grandma knows who Gordon Freeman is and hail him as the greatest hero of humanity, despite him neither being there for the Combine invasion, nor stopping it. The Truman Show did it better.
before they depicted gordon freeman as an edgy killer based on doom and other 1st person shooter at the time , now thanks to the "literally me" memes fans depict gordon closely to how he must have felt in the events of half life 1 & 2 , someone normal who just got broken due to so much death.
Gordon may also have ptsd from the black mesa incident, him murdering every single combine soldier he saw and seeing hes teammates / workmates die infront of him.
Technically, he wasn't murdering the Combine soldiers. Murder implies the unlawful premeditated killing of another person without justification or valid excuse. The Combine invaded Gordon's home-planet, subjugated his people, and were actively trying to kill him. Gordon had justification, and the Combine were neither peaceful nor defenseless.
@@ningyo5855 yeah but it still needs a LOT of force to kill someone with a metal bat, also metal bats need A WHOLE LOT MORE force to kill someone with it WITH ONE HAND NON-STOP.
I also understand that he’s actually a selfish, sarcastic, psychopath with several addictions and likely a criminal background. But also a goofball that likes doritos.
If he was 27 in 1999, provided the Black Mesa incident took place that year and his age being disclosed in the story at the beginning where you ride the tram to Sector C, then he was born in ‘72. Played all Half Life games to remember! Nostalgia! 👌😎❤️☣️☢️
i think in half life 2, when henry left city 17 while day, and when arriving black mesa east, it was sunset, when alyx brought gordon outside to play with dog, it was night, then gordon went to raven holm, and it was night, which lead gordon outside ravenholm to coast, it was morning, then arrived to the nova prospekt, it was night, then went back to city 17 it was sun rise, it took gordon 3 days to destroy dr breen according to my stupid little half life nerd brain
Fun stuff (not facts) about Gordon... He never wears his HEV suit's helmet (unlike the other pussy scientists that died on Xen). Altho Xen is in another dimension, Xenians breathe oxygen since they dont die on Earth from suffication so Gordon didn't need his helmet 😎 His original crowbar from Black Mesa was either given to Kleiner along with his suit by the Gman (Kleiner upgrades the suit in City 17 and gives the crowbar to Barney), if so the crowbar from HL1 got vaporized in the Citadel when the gravity gun got its first boost... Or Gman kept Gordon's Black Mesa crowbar as a memento since he admired that thing. Gman when speaking about Vorts to Gordon: "There was a time when their only contact with humanity was a crowbar coming at them down a steel corridor" The HEV suit does not have a pecker hole which means Gordon probably pissed (and maybe even shitted) himself during both HL1 and HL2 (he was in stasis for 20 years yes, but from his perspective it has been only a couple of days) 😅
Facts about myself: I have a helmet that came with the HEV suit. I refuse to wear it. It’s ugly I’ve lost around 3 of my crowbars and im on my 4th currently. I was constantly late for work in my time at black mesa, id been fired if i wasnt one of the only scientists there who was a REAL highly trained professional. I used to have a ponytail in half life 1. I’m 6’2 with a solid 200 pounds of pure golden muscle. I did exactly what i was told to do in the black mesa incident and still got called a “fool”. In the time i was in stasis i did nothing but grind RuneScape. Trust me i was itching to kill something when i got out. You couldn’t understand how insane it makes a man to grind RuneScape for 20 years in darkness. It was all the Gman would give me to entertain myself. Here’s a fact about Wallace Breen: he is a pussy, so much in fact he wont fight me hand to hand outside of the citadel at 5PM tomorrow.
It's not a fact, but rather a belief, that Gordon Freeman most likely has some form of military background, given that he knows how to use military equipment with rather surprising results for a scientist from MIT.
Gordon was always late and DR Kleiner always forgot things. I just found that out, even in the beginning of HL the security guard even says, running late again Mr Freeman.
Why is he everywhere a different height and weight? In Black Mesa, he is 5 ft 11.986 inches and weighs 192.73 pounds. On his character profile, he is 5 ft 10 1/2 and 168 pounds. And here he is 6 ft 2, 200 pounds.
“He was 27 in the first game and was born sometime between 1972 and 1982” Bro slept in math class That would make him born in 1971, possibly 1972. Not to 1982
That gordon has not slept since the day he was late for work in black mesa he has spent nearly the entire time awake, save for a period of time in black mesa when he was knocked out, but again that knocked out and not exactly 'restfull' In total from black mesa to the end of ep2 its about a week and a half of constant moprhine from the suit and Adrenalin
Wait Sceintist turned soldier? Didnt it say he had discrete emeregency training in the first game? Edit: his sponsor is classified and his emergency response priority is discresionary nvm
I don't remember ever hearing such a thing being official. But the way that man operates a laser guided rocket, his physical build, dude had to have been somewhere within the military at some point.
The had training rooms in black mesa for people using hev suits and there was a shooting range, and, i think that was in lambda core, one sciencist said something like "We knew if someone would make it to get here that would be you" so he rather had some special training and probaly had one of the best results.

Gordon long ginger beard long ginger hair buff strong imagine Gordon looking like viking
The reason why he can swing the crowbar like nobody business is because his suit is also a power suit. The proof can be found in the ending of HL2 where you see both alyx and Dr Breen holding the gravity gun like it was really heavy
Ah other facts? Well he ended the world saved it. By almost ending it again. Got his best friend killed. After abandoning em for 20 years. OH!! and his first internship choice wasn't black Mesa it was apiture, but Kliner and Vance spoke up for him when aperture denied his application
Well, he has a HEV suit. If he can survive a resonance cascade directly next to the anti mass spectromerer (Unforeseen Consequences) and getting beamed by it... And a windowless control room of a rocket launch silo while blowing away the tentacles (Blast Pit)... And entire rivers of radioactive acid... (Blast Pit) Then of course he will survive that
