Listen, I need you all to understand how miraculous and holy this place has become.
We are all so much alike, and that is something I've struggled to see for most of my life, but especially in the last few years. Reading through these comments has made me laugh, it's made me cry, and it's made me realize how thirsty and starved our culture is for both human connection, vulnerability and real, raw, honest and safe spaces to share.
I share a lot about myself here: arguably too much. I think one day it will bite me in the ass, honestly. But it's this ability to share our soft spots- both the things that we love and we, well, don't love- that allows us to see that we're more alike than we are different. I feel like that needs to be seen, spoken, and appreciated. You did that here, and it's truly a thing of pure beauty.
An ideal world would not be one where we all believe the same things and get along. It would be one where we see we're all in this together, that we're more alike than we are different, where we can share the soft parts of ourselves safely in an atmosphere of curiosity and shared mutual respect. And when we don't live up to that, where we simply say "I'm sorry. Can we try again?"
I'm over here in tears, because of your willingness to share yourselves with me. I'm going to keep sharing, because you've given me a good reason. I hope that you stay close and continue to walk with me on this journey, sharing yourselves right along side me.
