Song is before my time, but I would hear it now and then throughout my life…always appreciated it for its beautiful melody and harmony. I heard it this morning, and I couldn’t believe I had been missing its deep, intense message. My heart was moved.
@@waengineering8477 I went to a free concert of theirs back in the 1970's on Cambridge Common (near Harvard U). The drummer's drumstick flew out of his hand and I picked it up. He asked for it back and gave me a broken stick as a souvenir.
whenever is listening to this, just know you are not alone. Everyone in the comments sections is tryna get together, if you do not feel loved, you are loved by all of us. May God shine his peace and love on all of you.❤️
Yes my dad was in Vietnam when the song became popular. That age that era has left a lifetime impression that no other time in my life has. What a time to have been alive
I am 68 years old, I loved this song in the 60's, my hippie days. I cried so hard hearing this tonight. Oh how we need to LOVE one another, only love will heal, hate is destroying us💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
67 yrs. old, and I remember listening to this song on a handheld "transistor radio" as a teen. I only learned the incredible meaning of this particular song last year when I saw the lyrics to it. "When the one who left us here, comes for us at last"... I always thought that this song rhymed so well, and never thought more about it, until last year. This song is now even more meaningful and needed now!🙏🙏🙏
The words of Jesus as recorded by the Apostle John - John 15:9-12: As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. ~ Jesus
A song with real true purpose meaning message that could possibly probably might change all of us in every part of this world off all ages. No one hasn't to be alone hurt and suffer. The whole wide world needs to wake up. Whats the real true meaning purpose message about the Famous Statue of Liberty 🗽 in America 🇺🇸. Where's the real true Human Humanity Heart Spirit and Soul of what real true JUSTICE is. No out of control dangerous Wars won't ever Bring Peace to no one. Only death damage and destruction that's all. Now I do know the Statue of Liberty wasn't meant for that ever. The real true Heart,Spirit and ,Soul of America is standing strong firm solid with the old laws rules regulations of the Statue of Liberty 🗽. Don't ever not never break any of those Laws or suffer very badly. America is a very big great brilliant fantastic Place where there's many very nice beautiful Family's in many various parts. There's God only knows how many vast amounts of fantastic fabulous great brilliant things to get involved in that dosnt involve Crime. Myself I've always loved Baseball ⚾️ and Basketball 🏀. Adults and Children in TV programmes Family's and Films and Music. Oh I also Love the Big Apple. Start spreading the news I'm leaving today, I want to be a part of it. New York New York. Peace out.
I’ve been feeling the same way. It’s hard enough to realize it’s a 50+ year old song (are we that old?? 😱) but that’s we still can’t seem to get it together. 😢
You do realize the violence throughout all of human history? What makes you think they would have changed over 50 years or ever. Don’t be such a based idiot.
An interaction is a smile having a reaction An a Wink is just a blink from satisfaction An a Frown is subtraction as is a fraction A Frown is a negative muscle contraction Smiles give love traction for some action
Funny you said that I have a playlist called Anthems and it’s included in it! I was a little girl in San Francisco when this song was being played on KFRC radio with Dr. Don Rose and a few DJ’s there! A favorite that people of all ages should be listening to and trying to make it happen. Greed and Hatred Is What Most People Have Become And It Makes Me SICK! People Need To Knock Off Their 💩!!!
Each day we awake there's uncertainties we hold our reigns the Lord holds my fate/final destination life is the mountains the beach is on the other side!!!
Yes, but then apply it to the danger, the best love you can give today is far away kisses, maybe crossing the street when elderly people (or anyone really) are taking a walk and smile and wave , just a way of adapting the message.
As a child growing up in the late 60's, i used to listen to a transistor radio i hid inmy pillow case , at night. I'd listen o AM radio till i fell asleep. This was one of my favorite songs then, and still is today . I never thought how much it would matter in the future..... but it surely does now. This is what we need to do Americans, and people all over the world. Get Together.....
This song came to me tonight as I am feeling the presence of one of dearest friends, who is in the process of ” leaving this world” I have visited her for hours today, and I am remembering this song when I was ten years old. It was used in a Coke commercial way back in the late sixties. It's such an appropriate song for our ”troubling” world now. Listen, reflect and enjoy. Listen to the lyrics. ❤️🙏 Pray for a better world. Pray for the soul of my dearest incredible and sweet friend !❤️🙏🌻🐝🌹
I listened to this song as a little girl, many years later it still resonates. Timeless classic that we should all sing to raise the vibration of the planet. Let’s share this.
this song was 50-60 years ahead of its time , its still probably ahead of our time. I so believe one of the best written , best produced songs of any genre and any generation .
This brings me back to a special time if my life and the message of my generation. There was great unrest at the time just like now and we still need this message more than ever. Im about to turn 72 and it still touches me deeply when I hear it. Someone should make this the anthem of what we are trying to bring about...still. Come on people, smile on your brother, everybody get together let's FINALLY love one another right now. Peace and love ✌❤
I hear there's talk of changing our national anthem. À more inclusive, minus the war glorification statement than our current ballad. Perhaps, "America, The Beautiful" or better yet this open rebuke to mankind would be my vote.
Not only do I PROUDLY come from the times when these songs were written , but a strong follower of the MESSAGE , as well as , make an extra EFFORT to practice daily . The words will always hold TRUE despite the changing times . REACH OUT !
@Theresa Reiter My sister you speak the truth. It's easy to dislike someone that doesn't look or think like you, it's a whole lot tougher to accept and respect, someone who is different. I guess we forgot "E pluribus unum", "Out of many, one". Be well, safe and peace to you and yours.
I was riding with a group of friends back in the late sixties and this song came on the car radio, Everyone one in the car started singing the song. It was like a movement. I'll never forget that moment, even tough two years later I was serving in the U.S. army in Vietnam. ! Made a lot of friends in Saigon when I was there as well. Some of whom liked this song as well.
Which was the better memory.... killing foreigners half way across the world for government benefit, or laughing, singing with your friends about how to create peace?
It's from the bible, " man is like the grass in the field, and when the wind passes over, it is no more" psalms 103:15 Also the one who left us here, refers to Jesus and his return.
I agree. It's hard to believe as educated as Politicians are, they just don't get it. They both point fingers at each other. Not being byist, The Democrats used to be more conservative. Both parties used to be on the same page. For some reason, Democrats began to self destruct to the left. Since you like freedom and Liberty, I"m thinking you might lean on Republicans. Less government and less taxes. More financial opportunities. Support GOD and family.
Humans are very destructive by nature and are easily manipulated to live ,act and adopt a life and ways that are pushed on to them by governments etc. I find myself in a world where No one can form a view or opinion for themself other than what the TV ,news or papers tell them to think so its no wonder earth is f#cked up as 98% of people will never realise what earth is and what this thing called life actually is.... Peace love and divine light brothers n sisters.
I love everything about this song, from the beautifully poetic lyrics, the understated guitar solo that proves you don`t have to make it wail or cry to sound good right through to the superb drumming. This song really earns the accolade, "classic".
We need to keep the faith and never give up and we all will get through this together regardless of our ethnicity. God speed to US ALL and as WAR’s song eloquently “stated can’t we be friends?”.
This love song is truly an iconic anthem for a generation that I wish would inspire ours now! The Youngbloods didn't write it, but they adapted it brilliantly with a uniquely spiritual essence.
There's a line in this song that nobody seems to hear, probably because they don't understand it (at 1:27). "When the One who left us here comes back for us at last" That's a direct reference to Jesus second coming to Earth, spoken to his disciples just before his crucifixion. He told them He would not "leave them as orphans" but send the Holy Spirit to be their comforter and counselor until He returns (the Second Coming). The passage is in John 14, 16-29. Look at the state of the world today and it's pretty evident it may be very soon.
@TASmith-ou3is Amen! I'm 75, didn't get saved till I was 52 and had heard this song by Jessie Colin Young thousands of times since it came out. A couple of years after coming to The Father through Jesus this came on my car radio and that verse hit me like a bolt of lightning! I've told many good, solid Christians about it and they had never pick up on it either. Look at God showing out, though! Thank you Holy Spirit!
@@TASmith-ou3is I forgot to mention this one too: Bread was a very popular soft rock band in the 70's and this is a track that was gibberish to me then. Listen and pull up the lyrics too!: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EYoJEBONHNch.htmlttps (I Am That I Am)
I beleive everyone on this planet should sit down, close their eyes and just listen to this song. What this song encapsulates is something the human race sorely needs now more than ever.
Brenton Kurth ......what a genuinely lovely, heartfelt comment and absolutely spot on, thank you. We really should better adhere to this, after all, “we are but a moment’s sunlight fading in the grass”, truer words were never spoken.
So sad... no more of this ‘real’ music that still makes us dream about how life was... 😔🙏🏻... it’s gone... like the beautiful time when it came out... Please! No more hate! Please! Peace!!
It's not all gone. I was just a little kid during the time of the hippies, yippies, Free Speech Movement, Womens' Lib, Viet Nam War, peace demonstrations, Civil Rights Movement, and of course, street drugs. As with many other things in life, some of it was good and some of it was bad. Peace.
If you read your Bible you will see that the end of what we know as normal is soon to pass because Jehovah God promises a time when the meek will possess the earth and they will live forever upon it in peace and happiness!
This song came out the year I was born..1967. I've grown up listening to it my whole life. It warms my heart & always has & it brings tears to my eyes when I listen to it today. Thank you for posting it..✌❤ Peace & Love
Bob: Goosmann: What? We need this more than ever? Why what goods it gonna do? It never worked within the 50 years ever since it first came out, so what makes you think it's gonna work now?
I was thinking the same thing as I listened to this, we are so divided as Americans and we have lost the idea that we are all in this together as Americans, even though our opinions differ greatly, God Bless this country
@@danhardy6463: What? We have lost the idea that we are all in this together? I'm afraid that idea does not measure up to "Reality" I mean people harp on we are all human and we should all be as one etc. But the intrinsic differences in the races which goes way beyond skin color and human nature just doesn't work that way.....
@@unhooked25 maybe not in your reality, but you wait and see what real tragedy will do here in America, we will all stand together soon, PS I'm somewhat of a racist myself, but it really has to do with cultural differences not race issues
My Dad and my Uncle ( not blood but dad’s best friend ) used to open with their acoustic folk band with this song. My Dad Ellwood and Uncle Ronny were best friends since age 12 and I recently lost my pop. We lost Uncle Ronny in 2011… they were friends in a time when our country was facing such racial tension in the 1960s in Virginia. A white country boy and black boy . Unheard of. They loved each other and when they opened with this song acoustically it would make the room stand still . My dad was killed this year by a car and when I opened his bible sorting though his stuff to box it up I found the verse “ we are but a moments sunlight, fading in the grass” this is such a poignant song and hearing them sing it was such a gift
I am a firm believer that good will always triumph over evil! Since I believe that, my life has been a whole lot more peaceful and calm. Remember the Golden Rule, The Ten Commandments, and also the law of karma. When you live correctly, your life seems to be on a clear path.
Believe me, I wasn't always this ZEN! . It has been a lot of spiritual work & effort... but the reward (spending my eternity in heaven with the Lord) will be so worth it! So think about the big picture, don't get lost in the minutiae. Forgive often and freely. It is one way to circumvent negative Karma!

Amazing how the music, the lyrics, the power message of love blends in so perfectly it brings joy & healing to the soul. The song also encourages us during these chaos & tumultuous times that Only Jesus Christ love was and continues to be the answer.🙌😊🙏
Lyrics, the ink is black, the paper white. Together we learn to read and write. Sadly the so called "woke" people say this song is racist, and naive? 😪 🖖💔
At 64, I don’t remember when I first heard this song, but I fell in love with it as I did many other songs of the 60’s. Still a classic and a good reminder to make love, not war. 💕💕😊
Jesus Christ said to love your Lord God with all your soul being heart and love your neighbor as yourself. Amen May we all love our neighbors because it is just the right thing to do. Who is my neighbor? Everyone. May God richly bless all who read this and those that follow Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, who died an excruciating death spilling his blood as a sacrifice for all people of the world. Believe in Jesus and you will be saved!
When my generation came along this is all we wanted. Smile on your brother , try to love one another right now . I ended up with 2 missing fingers on my left hand & the loss of my right foot. 1/9 marines " Walkn' Dead ". Khe-Sanh Vietnam . Smile on your brother , try to love one another rite now. We tried , we really did . ✌ ✌.
@@bonnih6931 Bonni , I understand completely , sometimes I feel so hypocritical .I was the long haired guy that never missed a war demonstration , and went anyway . It's been a while since I've heard this song. It summed up everything to me . Iooking down where my foot used to be the tears just flowed . I take it personal sometimes , like if I could've just down a little more I could've stopped the war . But your so right about the tears .I was born in Alsace ,France . Moved to Downey Calif. at 11yr. I only lived a couple of doors down and 2yrs. Later Karen Carpenter's family moved in . I would walk Karen to school everyday. I was a couple yrs. Older but she skipped a grade. She had a real crush on me .I went to the Marines and Vietnam .I took leave before going over . Karen ripped a dog-tag off saying " I'LL give it back when you come home. I spent 14 months in Balboa Hospital SanDiego .I flew back to L.A. ( 11 dollars , first class .champagne flight ). Getting off their was Karen , holding my dog-tags up in hand . tears really ran down our faces. We were very close . But a huge difference in the music we appreciated. Thats why Karen and brother had a though time getting started. It was acid rock days. If it wasn't for a local bank acepting there first song , that was played in many weddings They would have had a hard time getting a break. I married and moved. Karen's mom called when she died , I immediately jumped a plane . At the funeral her mother told me that Karen took a little bit of me with her , my dog-tag. Mom told me " she really adored you Niky " Karen always called me Nicky .You talk about tears !! When I hear one of her songs today , I still tear-up .My wife was ok and understood it. My tiny wife 5'0 90lb passed away at 45yrs.and we had a story-book romance . Again the tears. I understand your tears at your age. I'm not much older , when I hear or see somethings from the past , and think these things are trivial , believe me honey they are all from your heart and they will be there forever. Amour Nicky.
@@bonnih6931 Bonni , again I thank you for your reply on my comment and both of our tears. I must admit I had a little too much Courvoisier ; Cognac in me , at 3am. I looked back at my comment back to you and can't believe I'd open up about personal events in my life that I've told no one . Especially about Karen Carpenter . She had a very overprotective mother and always thought she'd be protected with me , and she was right .I was the senior quarterback in highshool and she skipped a grade and was 2yrs.behind me , with a big crush on me. I didn't have the same feelings for her , causing her to be devastated .She hated gym class , so she messed around with instruments and got into drums , of all things , she just didn't strike me as a drummer . So they let her out of morning gym if she played the drums . She stuck to it and the rest was history .With my 1 foot I met a girl and married. Karen sang her " we've only just begun ". My wife asked her , not me . Her brother Richard was addicted to Qualude's. He made a jerk out of himself at the Reception , and fell over the punch-bowl .Karen always stayed in touch. We were always invited for Christmas , they always made a big deal out of . We went the first couple years , but then moved east .Never cared for Richard , and he new it. Well here I went again. With my Courvoisier at , 2am.I've still have no idea why I tell you of this , otherwise personal part of my life. So forgive me Bonni if you will .After thinking about this time I know I'll have a tear or two . So your not alone . Amour Nicky ......
Dominic Devereaux I thought awhile before responding, but you actually seem a lot like me. I don't sleep well and spend many nights reading or listening to music online. The most important thing I wanted to say is: I wanted to call my second child Dominic, but I never had one. Second, some of my moms family came from Alsace Lorraine when it was Germany, not France. The others were LITHUANIAN. Anyway, I'm alone with my cats, coyotes, cicadas chirping in the night.
Black, white, whatever race, enjoy and be happy we live in the USA, love it and respect it!!! Quit whining and crying about how bad you have it! Help others and it will come back to you! Go out and make it a great day!
I fought for this country. I want everyone to whine and complain if things aren’t right. Protest just don’t hurt others. This is our democracy and it’s been hijacked by right wing thugs and evangelicals that lie about gods message to buy cars houses and planes for their so called pastors. Resist protest and stand up for yourselves. Go Army! Go Airborne!
One of those songs I always have to turn up and listen to the whole song anytime it comes on the local radio or Sirius! Ageless song for all ages to embrace! Peace and love ✌️🙏
I do. Ever since i heard yhis song in 1966 i was 2 years of age. And it got stuck in my mind and since you tube came i started tossing out all music stock in my mid of the 60s right here in san antonio
I lost a brother on May 9 thus year and the sounds of this song started ringing through my memories my oldest brother who is still living used to sing this song on his guitar to me a a small kid growing up. I never got the chance to be with my brother whom passed away this year bur this song reminds us how short life is and teaches us to be wise
God bless you! I cannot imagine losing a sibling. I risk sounding nuts, but I almost died in 2007. In a nice four months 700 miles frim home, the doctor told me at 2.5 months she expected my death on any day of the first three weeks thers. I didn't die or have an NDE, but the doctor KEPT TELLING ME AFTERWARD of my "almost" dying....Finally, I Saud, "STOP TELLING ME THAT!" It was like am after-the-fact scare. I read of many NDE's - so many, too many and all said the same things....THAT EARTH IS THE DIFFICULT PLACE, A LEARNING PLACE, whether a Jew, an Athiest or other, all say such wonderful things about the other being Home. I wonder if I am due for many more lessons.... feeling like I wish I was finished...not in any concerning way, but I feel tired of LESSONS!!
The song defines an era of cultural change in our country, great times & great memories for me. To be an 18 year old kid during the height of this was really great times, plus being in the band and going on the road........... a lot of S.D.& R.R.
This song was special in its day................and here in 2020 it means more now than ever. What is happening in my country I love is heartbreaking. #stoptheviolence #stopthedestruction !!
Promises made ,promises kept, everytime ive heard this song for more than 50 years, ive said a prayer for a childhood companion who died swimming in a creek, he played this song at my house on a small transister radio, sang along, then asked me for water, and proceeded to drink about 6 large glasses in a fashion I'd never seen before or since, gulping it down like he never even swallowed it. He then had to go said goodbye and walked off to the ages, gone never to return. A few days later when i heard about his death, it shocked me and i was so sad, my new friend was gone, and i couldn't understand why. Ive never forgotton him and his spirit lives on in my memory, and this great song has been my mantra, and signal to pray for his eternal soul, and ask god to lift him high. Thats been a promise made and a promise kept, that is to recognize that were all precious in gods eyes.
Harry Peters, I feel that you will meet your wonderful friend in a fantastically better life than what we have on this Earthly Plane! If you are spiritual and a believer, I think you just ought to try to be patient and do the very best you can for others until your time comes. I hope you do not mind me speaking so frankly! Love is what it is all about. 💖 I suspect you know all of this already. It still hurts you, believe me, I know so well! 💜🕊️💜
My all time favorite! We had such good music in my generation! When I get cranky over todays noise blasting next door here is where I go☮️ So sweet and peaceful with a very good message, people are so angry these days!
I LOVE this song. It is so appropriate for what earth and us humans are experiencing now on our way to 5d New Earth. You can feel it if you go outside and walk in nature. The consciousness is rising and people all over the world are realizing we are ONE. 🙌🙌🙌
So True. We may look different but down deep we are the same. Those who love nature seem to be more conscious of things around them. And enjoy that beauty.
In 67, I was starting high school, and this haunting melody struck a chord in me. I happened upon it again a couple months ago, and now it repeatedly appears in my home page feed. Still drawn to it, compelled to click on n it again and again. The name Renée always resonated with me and may be significant. Not sure why, but I have a sense a hidden memory will soon become apparent. 😉 ✨️🪷🐧
I was 10 years old in 1967 when I first heard this song played on my transistor radio laying in bed as I fell asleep each night. It was an A.M. Radio station WOKY out of Milwaukee Wi. They played all the the latest great new music that would play forever. Believe it or not it was not a hit when it first came out. Never made the top thirty song list after the release. I recall one night early calling into WOKY and talking to a DJ named Tony Carr and asking him to play the song more. It was dumb luck that he took my call one night. He asked me how old I was my name and asked me why I liked the song. I told him 10, Steve, and I liked the beat and words were very inspiring too me. I explained every night when I watched the news with my dad. I always seen the Vietnam War images and the unrest in our Country. I said my parents were going to take my sister, brother and I to the Milwaukee Zoo for the first time. But due to the rioting and civil rights unrest we could not go to Milwaukee from our home town of Sheboygan. He told me I seemed very bright for a young boy and thanked me for the call. A little while later that night as I lay in my bottom bunk and my brother in the top bunk. We are listening to the radio. I hear the DJ say this song is for my new friend Steve from Sheboygan. Peace! And the he played this song. Seems like just yesterday!
One of my favorites, awesome, simple lyrics in the verses, 60's had some of the best music written, it is a shame you can't hear the music now. Some of it is better than this even. But you won't get it on the air waves...
The boys did it... and I'm so proud to be a part of the fandom that brought me here. And you know what they say... Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Business... and Family Don't end in Blood.
I love this song always have. And yes we need to hear it now more than ever! Love One Another Right Now! Please Be Loving Not Hateful. God Help Us All!
