Here's my take on Bobby Troup's 'Route 66', recorded live at Mr. Vain.
'Route 66' (or 'Get Your Kicks on Route 66') was written by Bobby Troup in 1946, inspired by and written during a trip he and his wife, Cynthia, took from Pennsylvania to California, along US Routes 40 and 66. Troup was initially going to write the song about Route 40, but Cynthia suggested Route 66 would be more catchy.
'Route 66' was first recorded by the Nat King Cole Trio, and it has also been sung by Bing Crosby, the Andrews Sisters, Patti Page, Perry Como, Chuck Berry, Louis Prima, Sammy Davis Jr., Dakota Staton, Mel Tormé, the Manhattan Transfer, and even the Rolling Stones! I hope you enjoy it!
