FYI - as of October / November 2023, got mine via expedited mail renewal in exactly 2 weeks from filing. I paid for the fast shipping and I also used priority mail to send the renewal application. Def allow the full amount of time they quote before planning travel just to be safe, but looks like the passport office is finally catching up.
Do you mind expanding on how you went about your renewal? I'm traveling to Japan in mid March and need to renew my passport and can't imagine I have to drive all the way down to Miami to handle this....
Thank you, very helpful video. I have been working with Rush my passport but the service is horrible I ended up using A-Passport & Visa service in New York. These guys are very helpful got my passport in 3 days. Sharing this so that you would know who to go with :-)
@@curtiserecacho1401 I had applied for both actually, renewal for myself and new for my family member. Both were done in 3 business days, complete stress free.
@@CUBACHINA1986 I wanted in super rush fashion but they have low processing day option for $290 I guess. Its a decade expense without any hassle, so it a good investment.
DO NOT USE RUSH MY PASSPORT IT IS A SCAM! The post office will tell you themselves that no one can submit that information besides them. The only real service they provide is filing out your DS-11 form electronically, but you can literally print it out from a 2 second google search for free and fill it out yourself. I paid $400 for two passports to be rushed in 3-4 weeks, but they literally cannot provide any faster service than the actual post office, which you HAVE to go through regardless. They say this themselves. I am immediately going to call my bank right now to try and dispute the charges, this is not only a useless service, but a scam company which you will give ALL of you information to including your social security number if you use them. Just google “is rush my passport a scam” and all the search results confirm. WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO GET YOUR PASSPORT FOR THE FIRST TIME is a valid drivers license or ID, your actual birth certificate not a copy or pdf, a passport photo which you can have taken at the post office to meet their specific requirements (you can do this the same day you go in to order your passport), a blank check for you to fill out there to pay (they don’t take card, cashiers check or money order only), and a filled out ds-11 form which is a 1 page form asking for your basic contact info, address, date of birth, SSN, and parents birth info if you have it (not needed, optional). Then just take all of these things to a post office (you may book an appointment on the post office website if you’d like) and they will give you the option to rush it. I just went today, did exactly this, and had 0 problems. Now I have to disput the useless charge for rushmypassport with my bank. When it comes to getting your passport, ID, or any other government issued form, DO NOT give a penny to anyone besides the government. These are NOT outsourced processes, anything claiming to be is 100% a scam regardless of who endorses it.
Thanks for the help. Just a story from my past, I was a Department of Defense Civilian Contractor in Afghanistan in 2005 and then an expat in Thailand in 2006. I cannot count the number of times a coworker or friend let their passport expire while abroad. Obviously they needed to go to the US Embassy. And seldom was the process completed the same day. A nightmare.
Great, clear video! I need to renew my passport before Sept '24. I will renew mine while in the US but I need to keep my old passport due to my Philippines 13A stamp needing to be transferred when I return there this year. How can I do that? Thanks
You would need to contact the PI embassy or Consulate in the US but a lot of countries let you bring 2 passports as long as you have a valid stamp in an expired passport.
Hi! Just have a quick question for ANYONE: My wife and I have a planned trip within 8 weeks; If I have never had a passport and my wife needs to renew hers, would we book the same appointment to take care of both?
Yes you can select for more than 1 person on the USPS website. It depends on which passport your wife had previously. If it is a 10 year or Adult Passport issued in the last 15 years (10 year validity period + 5 year expired period), then she can renew by mail. If she previously had a 5 year or Child passport or an adult passport that has passed the validity period then she would have to renew in person. There is also an option for urgent service for travel if you need a passport within 14 calendar days before date of travel (28 days for those who need a visa).
Thanks for the help. If I pay for the application expedited return, will I need to be home to sign for the package or will the mail carrier leave the new passport in my mailbox with my regular mail? Thanks.
I believe you have to sign it, but you could sign up for Informed Delivery and maybe have the post office hold it for you, until you can pick it up at a time that works for you.
How was I able to get schedule my appointment in Tucson online within 14 days of travel? On their website there is no mention of 3-5 days before international travel?
14 days is what you would normally schedule but before that you would need an appointment a few days before travel but could schedule it for up to a couple of weeks before travel date.
My passport was issued 14 years ago and expired 4 years ago. I meet all the requirements to renew by mail, but my one question is about the passport photo. I have changed a lot (looks) since my now expired passport photo. Do I get new photos and include them in the mail?
Yes you will need a new photo as the DS-82 says the photo has to be current (in the last 6 months). There is an area on the DS-82 where you can staple the photo.
You would mail it if you are renewing. First time applicants or long term expired/child passports (passport issued after 15 years or 5 year or child passports) need to be done at an acceptance facility such as a post office or government building. You can also use a Passport agency for fast service.
You would need to go in person if it was not issued in the last 15 years. You can use your old expired passport in lieu of a proof of citizenship document so no need for birth certificate/certificate of citizenship/CRBA/Naturalization certificate. If it was a child or 5 year passport it would have to be renewed in person regardless.
Hello! Need your advice!!! I sent my renewal passport since June 27'2023 until today April 4' 2024 i have not received my passport yet nor heard from them...i checked online it said "status unavailable" what should i do? I tried to call but i can't get anyone reply...please help🙏🙏🙏 sheend'pianist
You can contact the state department for an urgent appointment around a couple of weeks before travel. You need to include proof of travel but you can get same day service. You may have to travel to an agency as there might not be one in your state or appointments might not be available in your city.
I did my last passport renewal while out of the USA, while in Malabo Dos at the US embassy. I had to make a appointment, drop my renewal off , plus fees in US currency, release my current passport. I think from start to finish it was like 3-4weeks and the cool thing, I didn't need to make a followup appointment just only needed to call 24hour ahead to have the passport delivered to the security building, where they match. you and your passport , and they hand it over after signing. I was very impressed on how the Embassy handle my renewal. Tip if you do a lot of international travel for business, get the large book to get more pages. I was literally running out of space in my standard booklet.
No you do not need to. Just include your last 10 year (ADULT) passport issued in the last 15 years, DS-82 w/compliant photo stapled and a check or money order for $130 to the U.S. Department of State. You can also add $60 to the $130 if you want it expedited processing. For another $19.53 you can get your new book mailed to you with 1-2 day shipping. I recommend using a Priority or Priority Express Envelope when mailing to the state department as those are prepaid and you get a tracking number.
Question, If I already have a passport ID but want to also buy a Passport book, do I need to apply for the book the same way I got my ID? or is there a faster process since I already have an ID?
You can use a DS-82. Fill out a DS-82 marked for book and staple in a 2x2" photo. Include a check or money order for $130 (add $60 for expedited processing and 1-2 day shipping is available for only $19.53. Please include your passport card in the envelope and preferably use a priority or priority express envelope.
Does anybody have any idea why they could possibly put your applications on hold when you’re applying for the first time, and they wouldn’t tell you anything about what’s going wrong with your application? I helped a friend with his application and he is actually mad at me thinking that I did some mistakes, because it’s had almost 7 week since we’ve applied. Expedited.
I'm really skeptical of mailing my precious passport in. Is it safe? Also note to anyone who doesn't have other ID - get additional state ID before mailing in your passport.
@@BgmutzaI’m curious how long it took from the time you mailed it in until you ended up receiving it back in the mail using the expedited service. Thank you 😊
What is wrong with that department? It is 2014! We should instead hire Amazon for this function -> renewal would only take 3 days (upload your picture and a picture of your old passport and voila! 3 days later you get it in the mail!! AI government is sorely needed!!!
