Great video! Thank you for showing the details of the ramp and how the two coils are used. I love learning about the mechanical design of pinball that gives it it's "magic"! Please record when you rebuild the flippers :D I've seen it before on other youtube vids but another example is always appreciated!
I have replaced batteries with NVRAM on all my wpc games including my Getaway as well as for friends. Yes, you have to have the right equipment(a good desoldering station) to do it but is not that difficult. desolder the old chip, install sip pin sockets and your new nvram. I understand some reluctance if not your own game or if no experience at desoldering IC chips. practice desoldering /removing IC chips from an old junk board to gain some experience and confidence. But most importanct is getting those batteries off that CPU board.
I actually have done a bit of component and chip desoldering w/ a Hakko and installed new components and SIPs but the last time I looked at doing the NVRAM on a WPC, I got a little nervous and decided not to risk it. They were all on customer games. But, I get it. It's doable; just chose not to. Definitely agree on moving the batteries one way or another. Years ago I used to solder in Lipo battery components but quit doing that since I didn't like that it meant any future replacements required more soldering work.
Nice I have Getaway in my collection as well as the classic. I am also cleaning mine I have it all stripped down to clean and I am also putting all new plastics on mine too. And man I want that Donut Heaven building mod I almost got it but at the time looked at the price and opted for the sticker instead. I also use lithium batteries they might be more expensive but they last a long time and I don't have to worry about them leaking unless they short or something. I will also have to do the light mods on mine for the signs. And did you put in the colored LEDs in the G.I. if so I commend you for that as I have done the same thing but I did not think about putting whit where there is signage though. I get so much flack for putting in LEDs that match the plastics colors so much. I always tell em it is my machine so I will do what I want with it. I am also excited that I will have a Police Force in my collection I am going to go get it today it is 2 hours away butt it is my holy grail of pins I have wanted for the last 20 years and finally have enough to get it.
Yeah, the GI lights are mostly a mix between green, sunlight and natural white (under the signs). I do get it where in some cases a colored bulb behind art on a plastic can wash out the details between colors in the artwork, but I agree with you that I like to put colored bulbs behind some colored plastics... where it looks right and makes sense. Of course, it's all subjective and a personal preference but to me there are times that certain spots look good with a colored bulb, and other times just a white to light up the various colors in the plastic. Getaway is a mix of that to me, but I do like the color. Anyway, good luck with your Police Force. Sounds like it will get some love and nice treatment!
