I had a 83 gs850. I was young and it scared the shit out of me. I sold it after one summer. Wish I never did that.

That's a great story! Thanks for watching! The bike needs a lot of work still, but I'm excited for it

Brings back good memories. I had a '77 GS 750 which I raced in AFM and Manning club races back in the day. Then bought a totaled one and rebuilt it a couple of years later. Rode that thing to Texas and back at one point. Sweet running bikes.

I also have an '81 that I bought new in 82 - it was a leftover - the Japanese were dumping bikes at really low prices. These are great bulletproof bikes. Nice Buick, by the way.

I’ve gotten carbs like this before I take them apart as much as possible and dump the parts in 90octane non ethanol for a week take em out and 99% of the time they come apart pretty clean it don’t hurt to put a can of Berryman b12 in the mix

I rebuilt the carbs on my 79 gs750l and found that chem dip discolors the aluminum castings pretty bad. So i went with a ultrasonic cleaner. Worked well.

Bro the fact that it has a kick start makes it worth rebuilding from the ground up. They don't make those anymore. I have a honda 750 that has a kick start and it's locked up, Im keeping it for that fact alone.

those bikes are very good but very hard to start ...youshould install an electronic ignition ready to work with points ...the only way

The 1979 GS850G is a heck of a good bike and you’ve really scored there - but I will say that it would pay to be a bit more methodical when trying to start a new-to-you bike or car. Perhaps check for. Spark at one of the leads and also check to see if there is a clutch lever safety switch…

It's definitely cool, also a pain in the butt. The 4 carbs are fighting me. Thanks for watching!

I have this same bike. Fuck that petcock. I rebuilt mine and still got gas everywhere trying to get it to work. You really need to get that airbox back on, these bikes are tuned for the flow restriction of the stock airbox. Mine was a mess, I did what I could with silicone and foam weatherstripping.
@langspeedcycle
@langspeedcycle 3 месяца назад
Dude I agree. Yeah that airbox is crucial to tuning the carbs right! Ignore the internet saying you can without them

I watched a guy on RU-vid I think she was the bearded mechanic I love the exact same bike you do he bought it real cheap from somebody he took it home and during his disassembly of the carburetors can you just spray WD-40 also spray it into the light switches helps clean up the corrosion and the horn and the starter switch he also sprayed electrical contact spray 2 just thought I'd send that out to you poor future use

Can someone explain why on Earth varnish Is Inside the carbs...how the hell does that get in there???
