@Emelyn Huynh lol its like Common sense to do a research ! Do someone really just buy the pet ?! When I wanted chinchilla I had to research everything and then present it to my parents , or I wasnt getting one !
@@ilovebasil__ yes, you are right, it should be common sense, but just look at the hashtag hamster on Instagram and you'll see how many hamsters live in shitty cages an conditions
Hey :) I hope you're okay with me just giving some tips/advice on your hamster care even though you are already to a much better start than most people 🥰 #1 Cage I am SO glad you got him a large enough cage! But since the cage is so big, you could fit so many more cool things! Hamsters benefit from loads of different hides and a sand bath which would probably make your hammy even happier than he already is in his massive tank. #2 Bedding The type of bedding you have is a great choice and is regarded as one of the best hamster beddings out there so that's good. Now just add MORE lol. Hamsters are burrowers and they dig 3 feet into the ground in the wild. I would say put 8-12 inches in one end and then slope the bedding down on the other end so you can fit taller things that don't touch the top of the tank. And more is ALWAYS better :) #3 Wheel Your hammy (SUPER adorable by the way) looks a lot like a Campbells/Winter White dwarf hamster and both these species of hamster need 8 inch wheels so their backs don't bend unhealthily. A 6.5 isn't the worst, but I would still recommend upgrading just for the sake of his back. #4 Diet The mix you got "Higgins Sunburst Hamster and Gerbil" is a really great mix for variety, but sadly no sole commercially available mix will do the job so it is highly advised to mix one bag of Higgins Sunburst with one bag of Mazuri Rat and Mouse pellets. This is because Higgins has loads of great variety for your hamster, but it has 15% protein which is on the lower side for hamsters, who are advised to have approx. 18%. Mazuri acts as a protein booster and adds that little boost of protein making both of those mixed together, a great diet for your hammy. Additional resources - If you aren't already a member, I would highly recommend you join the Hamster Hideout Forum. They have answers to basically everything and if you want to PM (private message) me for more info on there my username is AnnaHeartsHamsters. Also, the youtube channels Victoria Raechel and ErinsAnimals will be LIFESAVERS! Phew! If you read through all that thank you and I truly am sorry if anything I said or suggested came off as rude. Your hammy is one of the cutest I have ever seen and I wish you and him loads of fun times 😊 Bye!
omg that wasn’t rude at all! i’m always open to suggestions and advice so thank you so much for your comment :) I did watch a lot of videos from Victoria Raechel and ErinsAnimals, they are great sources! I definitely want to add more to the cage but unfortunately that was all my father was letting me get for the time being. I will for sure add more things when I get the money to :) but overall thank you so much, I will definitely look into what you said 🥰🥰
Omg literally someone could’ve explained this clearly like you on so much hamster videos I watch people don’t do anything right and I fell so bad for the hamster thx for actually doing your research and watching all of those videos of Victoria Raechel she helped me so much to correct some of the things I did worn your so amazing
@@PiggieTime Thanks! You're so right with the pet community! It always seems so judgmental and forced on bringing the not-so-great owner down, instead of helping them improve 🙄 Spread love not hate my dudes. P.S I'm getting piggies and I love your channel 🤗
my parents said that if I show that I am responsible enough by keeping my room clean until we move or build our house (6-48months) then i will get a bunny. So Im using all this time to do my research. Its really the least people could do to provide a good home for their pet
Yeah, this results in giving the hamster a better life. She did a good job not like @ItsKatieDonnelly who did no reserarch, thinks her hamster is a toy, and has more interest in not moving her TV rather than caring for her hamster.
I recommend getting a bigger wheel for the hamster because a bigger wheel is always better because if a wheel is too small for a hamster then they will arch there back and they will be uncomfortable
Sometimes you have to be careful that the wheel is too big as it can cause the hamster to flip off. My Russian draws struggled a lot with a standard 6” until I realised the grips were too smooth
i love that you did research-you’ve made many people in the small animal community very happy by doing so!! as i’m sure you’ve already heard from others, at least 6-8 inches of bedding is recommended. another tip i’ve learned is that a simple way to keep your hammy mentally stimulated and engaged is scatter feeding. they love finding their food around the cage and it keeps them busy! good luck with your new little friend!!! they are wonderful companions 😊
hiii!! i know you said this about a month ago but i recently got a hamster for my birthday and i did my research before hand don’t worry!! he’s in a bin quite large for a hamster lol but i noticed he try’s to climb up it? do you know why? how do i make him feel more comfortable in his cage because apparently it may be stress? i tried adding more bedding because i know they need 6-8 inches but he still try’s to climb it / escape. And do you know how i could get him to trust me more? i’ve tried my best but i don’t wanna stress the poor guy out since i’ve only have him for 5 days.
@@tiffanythibodeau6639 hi! i experienced the same thing (trying to escape/climbing walls) with both my hamsters for the first week or two. he’s still getting acclimated and it’s stressful to be in a new place all of a sudden, as i’m sure you know. i wouldnt start trying to tame him for a while. the longer you wait to interact, the more comfortable he’ll be. and as for trusting you, it’s normal for him to be timid. i’d recommend starting with treats. they’re very food motivated :)
Little Guppy looks soo cute just like you OMG!!!!!!!! I also loved how Guppy tried to dig through the cardboard. Don't stop with the videos! Love you Kayla
I was prepared for the worst, but im very impressed with your care! I was expecting a crittertail or something lol your cage could definitely fit a LOT more stuff in it, hamsters like a lot of clutter in their home :) Also id recommend making the bedding deeper too! the last thing is a bigger wheel couldn't hurt otherwise everything looks great! Nothing about your current setup is bad, I like all your little decorations and hides I just wish you could have adopted a hamster instead of buying one at petsmart, but you are doing sooo much better than a lot of other owners ive seen 😊 amazing amount of space, and I like youre bedding choice too! So impressed!
now YOU are someone who actually does their research! i had a phase where i would research about animals from cats and dogs to lizard to all kinds of pets, i know about nearly every pet u are legally allowed to own and how to look after them but it hurts watching people making their pets' life very horrible and all that and watching this made my day since you actually know what your doing! this video is pretty old so idk if u will see this but this video is amazing!
@@kaylaepark I see so many videos of people buying a hamster without researching and then they give the hamster a poor quality of life. I’m so glad you did your. Research the only thing is maybe add a little more bedding on the other side😊
Hi hi! Tips from a hamster owner -i recommend using a water bowl instead of a water bottle -add the largest amount of bedding possible -feed mealworms and search up hamster foods like constant veggies -scatter feed, as in throw the food around the cage for enrichment -the bigger the wheel the better -only adopt hamsters, do not purchase from stores -get more hides -the whimzee dog chews are GREAT chews for hamsters -hamsters sleep throughout the day and may only come out once in a while to drink water or eat and then will wake up at night
i’m so so happy you did research :) so many people impulse buy pets and they don’t get proper care, honestly i love doing the research and know that i’m prepared, you’re amazing!!
Love the cage size and everything, but I recommend adding some wood houses for him and in his bedding add some wood tunnels, and adding a sand bath :))
she didn`t do the best hamster care cuz she had no sand bath, too small wheel, too empty cage and a bad food to her hamster. If u wanna know more of hamster care i would recommend the channel: Victoria Rachel
Bro she did well for a first timer and will learn as she goes along for the first time it is really good all it needs is a bigger wheel and a sand bath apart from that it is fine… Oh and by the way I bet she did better then the first time you got a hamster… CUZ
When I adopted my hamster she was scratching the box rapidly and my mom who didn’t want a hamster in the first place, was just like “what have I gotten myself into”
@@kaylaepark So did my mom to lmao but she soon realized I can take care of it and the cage didn't smell bad like she thought and there more manageable once the money spending/proper care items are out of the way. I bought a Robo Hamster and I named her Rose.
You are sooo great for doing research! It’s also cool how you used toilet paper rolls, it just shows you don’t need to be fancy for your hammy to be happy!
Hi,I was just like to give you a good resource to get information. So I would recommend watching a few of Victoria Rachel’s videos. By the way your hamster is adorable.
hehe i have a campbells dwarf hamster and his name is kimchii :D edit: i did 7 hours of research and notes, (why do i study harder than for school i cant-)
You got an amazing ginormous tank so don’t be afraid to give them more bedding. The more the better because hamsters love burrowing and it makes them feel safe sometimes too. 💕
Aw he is so sweet!! Your happiness is infectious and I can tell you're going to give him a great life😊 I know you want more things in his enclosure so I thought I'd just say that you can always make hides/toys out of popsicle sticks and elmer's glue, they're a cheap alternative, safe and pretty fun to do too haha
Hey you did amazing! I recommend scatter feeding it will allow him to be busy and less bored. More hideouts so he has more places to hide! Maybe get like a tunnels
it's probably the first time I've seen a person buying or adopting a hamster and buying a cage that's big enough plus everything they need. really compliments💞💞🇮🇹
love the vid and love how u did research but u forgot the sandbath so they can take a bath there but they also use it as a litterbox! it's important especially for dwarf hamsters! I'd also suggest more bedding on the other side :) But otherwise, keep it up!
Hey great video but there are a few tips i would like to give you. Firstly, the wheel that you bought does look like a six and half inch, but i cant really tell. Anyway it looks a little bit to small for him i would consider getting a larger wheel as when the wheel is too small it can bend you hamsters back and cause back problems. Also as you have such a large enclosure, you can add a lot more toys to make your hammy feel more safe when he comes out of his sleeping area. You could also add a sand bath to the cage as well. And when you get another hamster maybe don't force him out of his box when your putting him in his new cage as this cause a lot more stress to your hammy. Instead, open the box and leave it inside the cage so that your hammy can come out in his own time. I would also consider getting a different food brand as the one your using doesn't contain enough nutrition. Moreover you could also add a LOT more bedding so that you can give your hammy the option to burrow a lot more. If you want more in depth explaining about all of this go to Victoria Rachel's channel on RU-vid or Erin's Animals. Apart from all that your hamster care is quite good comparing to a lot of other people. I hope you take this comment in a positive way.
you-are STUNNING! omg you are so pretty!!! XD I'm also so happy you did your research as well !BTW I ordered the exact same green bowl, and it was a little dusty and it had a stain in it soooo yeah that sucks but I just washed it out :)
I’m soo glad you did your research! It is so frustrating when people don’t! I can recommend one thing, I see you have a very tall tank and you could really take advantage of this by adding more bedding, because hamsters can burrow up to 3 feet in the wild! Just a recommendation. Love your tank by the way! 😁 You may have already watched her but I recommend Victoria Rachel on RU-vid! She has some really great hamster videos!
annoyed how the pet store didnt give u more bedding in the box :c. usually they give u quite a bit of it or sometimes even a toy so it can be put inside the new cage so they can smell it. it was sitting in barely anything
I’m not hating or anything just to let you know! 😊 Everything about your hamster’s life is AMAZING! The huge tank/“cage”, the bedding, and all of the toys that you provided with your hamster are great! The one and only thing I’m concerned about is the food. Hamsters can’t have any seeds, colored food, or anything that even looks like that in that matter. I really recommend Kaytee or Oxbow. I own a lot of guinea pigs but I have 2 hamsters that I’m still progressing with. I’m also kind of a beginner myself so I just wanted to provide you with some research I did! It’s really good that you did your research and got everything your hamster wants AND needs! Keep it up! 😁
wow. i just came here from someone's video that made me so upset because they walked into petco not knowing anything about hamsters and walked back out... still not knowing anything. this makes me so happy that you did your research and now your new little friend can enjoy his new, nice and healthy life! :)
You hamster is sooo cute! I love your setup for the cage but I would suggest adding a sand bath for him and maybe adding a few or just another hide for him so he can feel more secure!シ
Your setup is awesome, but if you wanted to add more my dwarf hamsters LOVE sand baths. I would look up what is considered a good size for a sand bath, like you did with the rest of his setup. Great job 👌 :)
I love the bit where she said ' THE ANTS STILL ALIVE!?!? ' I'm laughing so much! I think my mum might be getting me a hamster!! Edit - thank you for the heart Kayla! Idrk about getting a hamster anymore, i need a dog proof cage :D
I Am So Glad You Did Research! 30% Of People Do Research Before Getting A Pet. If You Do Need More Information I Recommend Watching Victoria Raechel For Hamster Tips! And Maybe More Bedding? They Can Borrow In That But More Would Give Them More Access To Deeper Tunnels!
yay thank you for doing ur research!!! Love how big and the amount of bedding That’s in the cage. Only thing I would say is clutter the cage up more because it looks a little empty example: sand box, drift wood, sprays, hay( for better burrows)
I film with a camera but just starting off a phone should be fine! i’ve seen a ton of youtubers say they started off with a phone and it worked just fine for them :) i bought a camera so that i could take photos as well as film :D
I love that u have good care for guppy I would recommend getting a sand bath so that he can bath on his own and a bigger wheel preferably a 9 inch wheel!
I'm sure Guppy will be happy in his new home, hamsters are adorable creatures. I'm going to get either an Owl or an Octopus for my next pet, I'm finding it difficult to decide. Which one would you chose?
With 3 heart, 9 brains, and chromatophores for camouflage the Octopus is definitely one of the coolest creatures on Earth. I think I will get A Mimic Octopus, I would go with A Bule Ringed but their neurotoxin is pretty nasty. Octopus are also easier to keep track of, it's not going to fly away.
For a start I think it’s pretty good! In the future definitely expand the enrichment, like a sand bath, include different types of hides. I love seeing a queen doing animals justice
Good for doing your research. Guppy is lucky to have you but just remember that your missing a sand bath and I really recommend a bigger multi chamber hideout.
I’m glad you did your research you would’ve killed that hamster in two days if you didn’t I have a hamster and I watched Victoria Reachelle two months until I got my hamster
Just tell her this: They’re pretty inexpensive compared to other animals. You can simply put them in a long container with lots of bedding. Make sure you do research!
i love that you done your research! i would also like to add that you should add a shallow dish of water as well as a bottle, because bottles can jam and the hamster might not get enough water.
The enclosure is a good size but hamsters do burrow and like their enclosures to be semi-crowded. You should also add a sand box so they can bath in it! Another thing is that you should scatter-feed them by scattering food around the enclosure. The wheel also needs to be upgraded to at least a 10 inch wheel! Have a good day/summer.
Okay I’ll just clear some things up, as some people are very picky in the comments - upgrading the wheel is not needed unless the hamsters back is curved in it, and this wheel is not regarded as dangerous. Another piece of optional advice is to add some more things like hides and tunnels to make them feel safer and hidden. However, all the people saying that the Higgins mix doesn’t have enough protein in it are correct. And if you had a syrian hamster, I’d completely agree to add mazuri pellets into it, BUT dwarfs tend to not find it as easy to eat big blocks of food. If you want to make the protein content higher and still keep a lot of variety in your mix, I would recommend adding two or three dried mealworms into the bowl every time you feed the hamster. The upside of having these instead of Mazuri blocks are: they’re smaller and easier to eat, they are an insect which is natural to their diet in the wild, dwarf hamsters LOVE them, and they don’t take up so much of the hamsters diet so the Higgins food can still give them a lot of variety. Variety is good because it’s what they would have in the wild, and hamsters generally find them more appealing than processed food. Of course, it’s all personal choice, but I wanted to give you a different opinion than all the commenters just repeating what they have been told by Victoria Raechel.
thank you so much for this, i really do appreciate it! his back does not bed and that is why i have not upgraded his wheel and i like the mealworm suggestion so i will definitely be adding that and more additions to his cage :))
How sweet! I’m so glad you did your research because so many people impulsively buy their small animals and it just breaks my heart and the poor animals soul. And I understand the way you wanted to improve your current hamster’s environment. I have the same feeling with my gerbils, Pip and Squeak. All pet owners love their pets but not all of them understand the hard work and effort they have to put into one tiny animal! And 1 quick suggestion when you clean their house change up the settings slightly add somethings in and take somethings out! Also switch up their diet!
This is by far the best “getting a hamster” video besides those pet channels. 👍🏼 May I suggest a sandbox? Hamsters love playing with sand and there’s enough space for a decent size too. Congrats on your new pet he’s adorable 😍
i love it i recomend putting more bedding and mabey like a sand bath and some more things because they allways need something to do ur hamster is adorible
Used tanks like that are super cheap second-hand! Try looking on fb marketplace for one 😊 or buy one new if you have a lot of money to spare lol, used ones often look brand new if you clean them though (:
