Many years ago I bought one . The breeder visited my home and checked my fence. Then he visited every Vet I had patronized for 5 years. Finally I was required to visit his place and meet mom and dad. Then I picked up the pup at 3 weeks and hand raised her from thete. We had 18 wonderful years. Kali was her name.
It’s important to remember that a lot of new information is coming out on wolfdogs as the breeding projects from the 70’s and 80’s come into fruition. Be sure to do your research and apply what works best for you and your puppy. These are high maintenance pets, but can be amazing companions.
@@yvgnj8842 Go join the some of the FB wolfdog groups like like "The Official wolfdogs Community Low mid and high contents" Get to know some of the more reputable breeders and owners. Also go watch all of my wolfdog education playlist vids and see if it is something you really want to do. If you just go out and buy one from a random breeder, it most likely will end badly. You have a lot of breeders out there selling inbred and psychotic animals and ones from piss poor blood lines.

I don't know what your experience has been with wolf dogs, but mine has been really positive all the way around. Yes, people should be prepared for what they may be getting into, but I haven't found them to be much different than many dogs or huskies, in my experience. I love my wolf dogs! But still, you never know what kind of dog temperament you may get. No matter what kind of dog you may get. Be prepared to have to accommodate your dog, if necessary, by providing a large containment area. Didn't have to do that with my first one, but totally had to do that with my second one. Fortunately, I live on 73+ acres of bush in northern Alberta, Canada, and can make a 150' x 100' enclosure for mine and he's totally happy with that.
@@dhand34 Hahaha! Yes! I hear ya! Our current wolf/husky is a go getter and can't roam free like all the other dogs, or wolf dogs before him. So, we're currently making a big enclosure for him, 150' x 100' in the bush we have on the property here. The fencing is going to be 10 feet high with buffers on the top and bottom. I think he'll like it in there. Right now, he's been put into a small dog house with a little fencing around it at night and we bring him out of there in the day onto a 30 foot chain, and he's been totally good, happy, and content with that, which is amazing! He's good puppy, even though he's a big one now! LOL Big, lovey puppy! Loves his belly rubs! So, I'm sure he'll be totally content with being in his new, much bigger, more improved playpen. Lots of area, lots of bush for him to explore, climb around, dig in, etc. Squirrels to chase and so on. He'll be having a very happy day!
@@dhand34 We did try to let him run free, but that didn't turn out good at all. In no time flat, a neighbor was over here saying, He's chasing our cattle and they're calving. And I was like, Yeah, no, that's not good! Tried it one more time after keeping him the yard and then he was over there again chasing his daughter and her boyfriend while they were riding their horses. So, then, poor Amarug's fate was sealed. You're confined now! No more running around and creating havoc for anyone. We just want to keep everyone safe, including Amaruq. He doesn't know any better. He's just doing what comes natural to him. But, what comes natural to him isn't in the best interests of him or anyone else, so now we're conducting ourselves accordingly, which amounts to just being responsible. It would have been nice if he could have just roamed free like so many others before him, but he's not behaved like all the others before him, so here we are. He's super sweet though, and beautiful. Gotta keep him safe and happy. He deserves that. I'm just so thankful that we have so much land here which is mostly bush, 73+ acres, and we can accommodate him. Apparently that's the kind of thing that is necessary for such fur babies. I don't understand anyone who tries to have one in a more city type setting. I don't see how that could be best for them.
I have Luna e collar trained but it has to be done exactly right. I let her and Waylon off leash in certain areas where there are no people or other dogs. I have vids of them off leash too. the reason i know i can handle on is because im good with dogs and will give them love they make a mess ill clean it up i also have a german shepard mix with a boarder collie and he went into the street once then i started taking them carefully

Sir, I’m trying to watch all your videos and join all the fb groups I can to educate myself, but I do have a question. Are alot of the requirements true for a low content aswell? I’m looking at 30%and below that I was hoping to raise as an inside dog. I don’t have access or ability to put up an enclosure. The more I look the more I’m drifting more and more towards just a northern breed.
I am rehoming one now that is 20% and he lived indoors. 30% would be hit or miss. This one I have now can open cabinets and is really good at getting into things. The ones I own are all 60% and up. Dobro is my northern breed and he lives inside. Norhtern breeds are high energy and still need a lot of exercise, till they get old.
@@dhand34 No sir I know my limits. I simply don’t have the capability to take care of an above 30%. Especially with no enclosure access. Issue for me right now is most reputable breeders don’t do super low contents. Their “lows” are 36-45 and it’s just concerning. I’ll keep my search and research up. 20% seems to be my sweet spot for me and my lifestyle. And I’ve taken care of/baby sat a lot of huskies before. I’m aware.
See my top 10 essentials vid before you go looking. If you really want one, you have research breeders and sanctuaries. The wolfdog breeding world is very sleazy and full of con artists selling inbred and poor temperament animals.
Is a german shepherd mix the best? And is it good for wolf dog pups to be around other wolf dog pups? And are wold dogs good around other dogs that you own?
Generally wolfdogs have german shepherd, husky and malamute with varying degrees of each. It really boils down to the temperament the breeder is producing. My female wolf dog will kill my female pit bull if she could. Females dont get along. So far though all the rest get along fine with the dogs. You can see them all playing in my other vids. Yes it helps to have wolfdog puppies together to play with or even a dog puppy is good too. Good questions

Hey i really liked this video and would love to know more as i got a dog and was under the impression it was a black lab/german Shepard but since she has started showing sign of her being part wolf and we were dying to know for sure and got it confirmed through dna test that shes part wolf and german shepared, i have no idea what kind of wolf but i wanted to see if it was ok feeding her raw meat that i hunt. I had adopted her from a random person in my area so i was under the impression she was 100% dogand was feeding her dog food specifically chicken dog chow as dry food and pure pumpkin when she has an upset stomach but she is barely eating right now and i feel raw meat might help

Is it problematic when a breeder doesn't take away the pups from the mother and raises them by the bottle. So leaving them naturally with their mother? Will this have a big impact on the temper, impregnation and also the socialization?
They need to be bottle fed so they imprint on humans which will relieve some of the inborn fear they have of humans from all of the human persecution they’ve endured. I don’t think it affects anything other than fear,
They don't need to be bottle fed and taken from mum. Socialization is crucial but that can still be done with having puppy play dates as they grow up. Many breeders are using puppy culture to raise their puppies and it does wonders. There are breeders that do hand rear pups as they don't have a decent relationship with their Bitch, which ideally i would say that they shouldn't have been bred if their temperament is not allowing the owner to go near them. The risk of impregnation is highly unlikely as pups will eventually be weaned off mum and at 8 or ideally 10 weeks they would go to their new homes. I'm not from america but the UK and my breeder has never taken pups away from mum and she has done a litters of low, medium and even high contents 95+ in the house. (Miyax Dogs)
i recently adopted a socialized hc pup. her other littermates are all very socialized besides her. when we first arrived , she was great and socialized but when we arrived home, she’s been nothing besides timid and scared. do you have any tips on how to help her timidness while she’s 10 weeks old? she won’t even play with my lc and husky mix at home. she just wants to hide
Yes be very patient. Provide a safe space like a covered plastic kennel that she can get into. Let her be around one dog at a time and make sure they are ok with her all the time. Is she afraid of the humans in the house too? She's in a new environment. Its actually important that she bond with the humans inside first for 5 or 6 days too. Get the Nicole Wildle books fast too

my puppy bites alot hes a wolfdog he gets hes not supposed to and i feel bad mabey hes teething bad i honestly dont know hes not mine and we got him from family in mexico is their anything you can do to help me fix the biting problem he will hop on me and chew on my legs arms and hands but thats when i cuddle with him he gets carried away with biting and gets hyper please help ty!!
•StrawFarii• yes absolutely,, there is a spray they sell at pet stores that smells and taste bad to them. This works great. Amazon prolly sells too. Spray it on your arms and legs. I also will reach in a pinch is gums to his teeth to get him to let go if we are just playing around. Wolf dog teeth are sharper than dog puppies too. Get up and leave the room too. Make sure he has plenty of safe things to chew on because he’s also teething a lot at this stage.
@@dhand34 THANKYOUU!!! i will try and get a hold of the spray and ive been leaving the room when he bites me i can tell he gets guilty when he bites me and somtimes i stroke his back and hell catch my hand in his mouth and then he lets go like it was an accident ty though ican tell hes getting better!

There is absolutely nothing more heartbreaking and infuriating than bad breeders - ones in it for greed who do not value the dog's needs at any level. A friend has spent a lot of money rescuing wolfdog from extreme situations. A couple of them were so abused that it took a very long time for them to even come around enough to be safe with her.. Thankful they eventually did - but it was touch and go for many months. Thank you for caring about them.
@@mortalclown3812 in rescue we see this type of thing far too often. Most rescues could have been avoided if the breeder had acted in an ethical manner.
You can’t own a pure wolf puppy in the US. You need to get in the Facebook groups and start asking around about reputable breeders for low content wolf dogs. If you don’t have knowledge and experience before getting one, it will tbe disastrous. Also shitty breeders will sell you inbred, sick and aggressive wild dogs so advoid them. @@dhand34 I'm not from US i am from Europe,balkan to be more precise,by the way It won't be problem for make the wolf into non aggressive such as other dogs,and my dad gonna have him in a village were only he would live, i would train him properly,but you're right it would be stupid to give sick or aggressive anyway thanks for telling me where to find
Please do not listen to anyone here you can own a full blooded wolf with proper license fencing ECT and there is hybrid breeders that sell high 90% content wolf hybrids.. expect to pay 3-5 thousand
