Getting an IC card in Japan is EASY! With changes to the JR Rail Pass it might be better value to just buy an IC Card (Like Suica, PASMO or ICOCA) for quick and easy travel on Japanese Trains, buses, and also using it to buy at convenience stores (conbini) and Vending machines while traveling Japan!

I plan to go; Tokyo, Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka. As well as I understand I use the IC card inside the city; such as subway, trains etc. Otherhand JR Pass is for fast trains betwee n city to city.

Whenever you swipe in our out of a station it shows you how much is left

I believe theres a chip shortage and they no longer give out the Pasmo or Suica cards.

Yep currently Pasmo and Suica are not being sold to tourists, but im releasing a video about tokyo tonight that tells you how you can still buy them, also cards from different regions work in Tokyo (and you can buy Toica at tokyo station too if you know where to look!)

Yeah all IC cards should work on 99% of lines, there is only a couple very specific ones that require additional fares

Will I be able to travel Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo with Just 1 Round Trip Shinkansen Ticket and $50 Loaded IC card?

Depending on your trip it might be worth getting the JR Pass (but it just went up in price) if you go to click.jrpass.com/SH5O and scroll down there is a trip calculator and you can see if you'll save money. But in theory yes 2 shinkansen tickets & $50 should be enough, and easy enough to add more money to an IC card if you run out.

If you no longer use the card, take it to a large station counter and the card purchase price of 500 yen + (card balance - 220 yen handling fee) will be refunded. If the balance is less than 220 yen, pay the missing amount in cash. As a supplement, the video ticket machine says "purchase fee 2,000 yen," but this does not mean "card fee 2,000 yen," but rather "card fee 500 yen + 1,500 yen balance in the card.

@@jasonleeky453 Tickets can be kept by having a stamp indicating that they have been used, but IC cards cannot.

No if you refund the card its taken back, its technically a deposit

Nothing anymore, they used to be for different regions but now they work everywhere.

Icoca can only be bought in the Kansai region, in Tokyo its still hard to find Suica cards, but you can find Toica near the Tokkaido shinkansen office, or try buying one on KLOOK with the code INAKA5OFF for a discount

You take your passport and receipt to the tax counter if the store has one, or ask the teller that served you. EDIT: oops sorry I thought you where commenting on tax refunds on shopping, for IC like Suica card you go to the station master generally. If you bought it at a non Jr line you might need to go to an office on that line. It varies by what card you get though

The IC card shortage is a temporary problem that seems localized to Tokyo, I havnt seen it myself in western Japan. You can actually still get Tokyo to issue IC Cards during the shortage if you register it with your name and details.

@@InakaAdventure yes, you need to register your name every single time. A friend tried to make one but the machines wouldn't dispense cards anymore, asking him to call staff, and when he did, they told us that full info was required to purchase one along with ID.
