Got some inspiration from a recent Warbird Wednesday we held in our virtual squadron. Another wingman and I took up P-47's for a ground attack mission, and I returned with more fuel in my tank than he did with external tanks mounted.
Really cool how well Eagle Dynamics modeled the Jug!

20 gallons matters when you need it.

Sure does! And it adds up quick, 72 gallons an hour different! Can mean the difference between making it back to base or ditching in the English Channel.

I have the original poh with which is filled with fuel burns and engine settings very interesting and the dcs aircraft isnt far off probably my flying that causes any slight discrepancy. I gave the same book for the 51 which is really accurate Nice well explained vid

Thank you! I think I've seen a similar POH, for a N model I believe. Sure seemed like a lot went into fuel planning for combat sorties. Can't help but wonder how the upcoming DCS Corsair and Hellcat will do on the fuel burn in comparison?

@@DieselThunderAviation I have the corsair poh from memory not a lot better

That big engine is a thirsty one! Dwelling on it some more, I think the Jug would win between the three, mostly because it could run at high altitudes more than the other two.

Do you need some drop tanks for the F4? There is a set of them for sale here.

We have a full set of tanks for the Phantom, plus a travel pod. Who's selling tanks?

Hi Diesel dude! I want to start playing DCS, slowly! I wondered apart from the DCS world 2.8 part, what would be a good map or campaign to get for player counts so that I could interact and learn better? I see there is a sale on, there are reductions and also it states that new players get 50% off? Is this on top of the sale price as that would be awesome to get going? Personally I like prop planes so that part is more simple for me to decide for now but the map/campaign part, being that there are quite a lot of options is the head scratcher? Being in the UK the Normandy map seems cool but as I say a map that gets a good amount of players would be a good start, I think anyway? Thanks for your videos! Happy flying!

Thank you, glad you enjoy them! That is one of the bigger questions for newer DCS pilots, what to get? In my opinion this mostly stems from the wide range of aircraft and maps; from WWII, Cold War, up to modern 4th gen fighters. My advice there is to get what most interests you. The Channel map is smaller but well detailed, the new Normandy map is larger and has some very well detailed areas like London/Paris. Discounts don't stack, so I would recommend taking advantage of the new user discount first, as that can apply to several modules and maps. Then go for anything on sale outside of that. This is assuming you install the standalone version of DCS (not the Steam version). You also get the option with the standalone version to do free two week trials of any aircraft every 6 months! I have not done any of the campaigns, though from what I understand, there are some really good ones out there. WWII era aircraft and maps are getting more attention and development lately, with Pacific Theater aircraft under development (Hellcat and Corsair). Two good multiplay servers that come to mind for WWII are the 4YA and Wolfpack. 4YA is UK based. Hope this helps!
