Hi ! I made an appointment with the Dominican Consulate in New York , the instructions that were posted for Dominican citizenship was a copy of parents cédula , original birth certificate with letter of exemplification two passport photos and $130 USD . They state that the process takes 90 business days.

@todayisagoodday5027 2 года назад
@@1113annie I went to the consulate downtown nyc and the process was quick. The passport office is in the back and they make a copy of everything then send you to the cashier to pay. $130 CASH They will call you back to take pictures in 12-15 weeks. It is a consulate so people are there solving many issues. Don't be alarmed by all the lines lol. Don't waste time in case the rules change strike now. Then open a bank account with BHD. Now your setup to make money in DR in case of jumping ship here.

@todayisagoodday5027 Год назад
@@jasminebatista8954 Your going to spend a lot more money with an attorney that still has to go through the consulate. You can find a list consulate locations with a search. See what the fee is for an attorney and compare you doing it yourself even if you have to drive a little bit to a consulate. You will have to go back and take pictures so take that into account.

Wow that was a long and hard process for you man. I've been living in the DR 2/3rd's of my life. Govm't officers mislead and don't provide correct information not even if their lives depend on that. I spent most of my adult life renewing and paying residence fees just because an officer gave me the wrong information back when I wanted to become a citizen at 19yrs old: she stated I didn't apply because I was past 18yrs old. Which never made any sense, and then said I had to go through a process as if I had no connection to the country, when all my family has been here for at least three generations. So a family friend a few decades later did provide me the correct steps, I went through them and it was faster and cheaper than paying the residence fees. (That's putting aside the process for US documentation, which was more expensive and had to wait several months) as soon as I got it in about a month i was getting my transcription, the whole process in the DR was less than RD$8,000.
@vriannamateo7509
@vriannamateo7509 2 года назад
You said the process in the Dominican Republic was about RD$8,000... can you elaborate? I was in the DR last month and they told me it was easier to do the process in the US.
@jesusdavis2941
@jesusdavis2941 2 года назад
@@vriannamateo7509 keep in mind, my process was a few years ago, I had the US documentation (which I'm not counting- that process was a little bit more difficult, had to mail it back and forth several times etc since I was born in a state I never lived, had no relatives etc, and was also misinformed on several issues)-had all documents translated and notarized, cancillería and legalization fees, and the actual birth transcript were all less than the 8K charge for residence renewal at the time. La cédula was free cause it was the first one. Try to find out cause some steps, like the translation and notarization can be done in the Consulate, but the charges may be higher

Love how thorough this video was and that you included that informative opportunity for reflection in the beginning and throughout the video with the question of “why are you getting Dominican Citizenship?”. It’s so hard to get a hold of the consulate here in Boston (you mentioned it lol) so knowing your experience is helpful so that I can be as prepared as possible. Love the advice about consistently checking in with them to check on the status of my case. I found this video so useful but I guess my biggest question is does this apply for someone hoping to have DUAL citizenship? This will help me understand the need for the passport. Your reasoning for wanting the citizenship back in 2017 is very similar to my desire now. Super grateful for this video. Liked and subscribed. :)

Second question : you mentioned that you have / received a “certificate of naturalization” but why ! I thought that certificado de naturalización it’s NOT necessary for children of Dominican citizens born abroad ; I thought that the process of getting it thru your parents does NOT include certificado de naturalization Thanks ; please reply

As long as your parents are Dominican (even if deceased) you should be eligible. I’d compile documents from your parents (cédula birth certificate, death certificate, etc) to begin the process. Reference your local consul office for steps but it should not differ too much.

That is a really good question and I’m not 100% sure, I would consult a lawyer. Presumably if all your documents have your current name (ie birth certificate, passport, etc) then there’s no reason why the Dominican government agencies would even know your dead name. With that being said, DR isn’t the friendliest to folks in our community so it’s definitely worth consulting an expert.
