@@MichaelApproved his ad sense account was compromised at one point I believe and he recovered it but they froze payments it's been like 2 years I forget the details
@@MichaelApproved Google/RU-vid froze his account that money is put into for the ads. They have not paid him his money for a few years now. He has started to not put ads on videos because he can't make money from it. He has a Patreon that allows him to keep making Chicken hole base
@@UnhingedHarry no. He's had to take those videos down. He's not been paid because someone stole his RU-vid info and the money that was supposed to get to him.
Cody, if you put your magnet into a resealable sandwich bag or any other plastic bag (as thick as you can find), you will be able to really easily clean those pieces of black sand/magnetite off of the magnet without having a bunch of those pesky, tiny, impossible to remove pieces of sand/iron, by simply removing the bag. You could also cover the magnet with a sheet of card, and it'll do the same thing.
2 plastic cups nestled in one another would work too. Super easy. Pull the inner one containing/holding the magnet the other cup the material would just fall away as magnet is withdrawn
Duct tape or sellotape is strong enough to get rid of all the "impossible to remove" pieces stuck to the magnet, but yes, it's better to shield it somehow first.
As soon as it said 2018 and someone was clearly filming him I thought it would be Kanyon. And then he said her name. A bit bittersweet, I'm sure this wasn't easy to relive to edit. But I'm glad it's out there and it's great content as always. Cody is such a genuine person, and it hurts me that he's gone through so much hardship the past few years. But glad to see he always keeps moving forward. Gives me hope to do the same.
sometimes its hard to "clean out your closet" glad you finally did it and starting a new time. keep up to good work, hope you find someone to finish this project with =)
@@404killer hey, can we not do this? I doubt you know the dynamic of their relationship. No need to insult Cody's previous gf. They separated on okay-good terms afaik.
Well the t shirt thing is mainly because little details are fairly hard to keep track of. Panning for gold is definitely more memorable. Even if it’s something he’s done many times. He’s undoubtedly put on a tshirt more times than he’s panned for gold
"Old" footage or not I always enjoy your videos, people like you make the world a better and brighter place just by being you, plus you teach people things they may not know while also learning more along the way and I always appreciate how you show even the "failed" experiments. It's really cool that you found other "treasures" aside from the bits of gold, I liked seeing the old bullets and especially the coins because I collect coins, I'm not a "professional" collector by any means but I've been collecting for over 20 years and I've found some gems along the way. I know these last few years have had a lot of ups and downs for you but I'm very glad that you're still around, thanks for another exciting video, Cody!!! Side note: could we have a more recent update on the bees? I know you had to move them to someone else's farm and I understand if they don't want you filming there, just a verbal update on how they're doing would be great.
Cody I’m sure this one was tough for you to make. You got through it though and are stronger as a result. We appreciate you! You are one of the RU-vidrs that inspired me to make videos so just know you continue to have an impact! Anyway, It’s very interesting to see this process and would love to see a part two!
Holy crap Cody I already know exactly where you are in the video i grew up in the area wish I ran into you at the time i could’ve showed you a couple of good spots let me know if you ever come back i’d love to give you a tour of the area
Hey Cody just wanted to thank you for being one of my parasocial mentors/teachers on youtube over the years. When I first started watching I couldn't even understand half the words you were saying. The stuff you do just looked like something I wanted to do. Been working towards that ever since. Thanks homie.
Aw cody, this must've been hard to make. I feel for you bud. I'm proud of you, for finishing out this old video. I haven't brought myself to close out some old chapters of my life in a similar vein. I hope you're treating yourself kindly as time has gone on. You're a genuinely good person.
This is what I’ve missed. Cody, geology and precious metals all together. I really enjoyed this man, this is the original content I subscribed for and think will never get bored of. Absolutely heartwarming :)
I am just here enjoying the Cody's authenticity for a while, but I see you guys in the comments knowing him better and being so supportive and caring really means this is a wholesome community I am glad to be somewhat part of!
Oh wow. Just from the one glance at the bridge and the hills I know where this was! My dad and I used to run a sluice box many weekends when I was a kid in the summer. I wish we knew about the magnet trick, we did it the hard way. Nice haul! That is more gold in one trip than we ever found all those summers of panning. Be sure to checkout the other forks of the American if you ever get to make a return visit.
While the main tale may not have gone as you'd imagined it at the time, it's good that you're able to come back to it and tell a spin-off. As one of Brandon Sanderson's characters has said, the most important step a man can take is the next one.
He fought through his emotions to provide us with education. about gold. savage. It's alright cody big fan since the beginning, then when i saw you team up with the king of random before it became a 5 minute tutorial for etc I went wild. Perhaps one day I can ask my silly questions, whether or not we could alloy titanium and chromium together.. or if there is such a thing as the most scientifically ultimate alloy for metals other than steel. iron and carbon..
You're looking for nickel-based superalloys. Things like Inconel, or the real fancy stuff they use for rocket nozzle injectors. I'm talking a nickel-titanium-copper-chromium superalloy capable of withstanding 4000PSI pure oxygen gas at thousands of degrees, absolutely wild stuff. What'll really cook your noodle is most rocket injectors these days are *3D printed*, so yeah. Nickel based superalloys printed with damned lasers to make rockets fly. If you're into material sciences, I highly recommend reviewing some of the crystal structure changes that make these alloys so resilient. Wild stuff!
Stay strong man. I've watched so many of your videos and I've learned so many things that help me with my life ❤ obviously you don't know any of us personally. But you're an inspiration to so many
Love your content, been watching for a long time. I've been watching for close to 10 years now, and you've always been an inspiration to me. Promoting the use of creative and simple solutions, being humble, embracing your mistakes, don't ever stop. Glad to see you posting some of your old content, it shows how much you've grown.
I love it, your content has always been my favorite out of all of youtube. It just has that calm, old days of youtube vibe that I miss so much these days.
Great video! Been a long time fan, usually don't comment much. I had a breakup around the same time you did and it weighed on me pretty hard. Watching you continue to keep striving even though you were obviously hurting at times over the past few years has really helped me get through it. Thanks for being you man.
At first I thought Cody had a new filmer and I was so happy for Cody because it had been years since I saw him with a filming companion (besides Kitty, who is dearly missed and chickens). Even though the filming wasnt great from the past, I was still interested to see where it all was going for todays video. I think regardless, Codys videos are always a breath of fresh air.
The American River is absolutely beautiful. Even if you didn't find any gold, it would still be worth the trip. :) Be careful if you go back because mechanized/automated separation, even on a small scale, will get you in trouble in California.
@@elburropeligroso4689 Have to use your noggin. With resources like google earth and knowledge of how sediment separation occurs it's not too difficult to dial in on the richer areas. Coming from someone else that lived in Placer County.
Cody! Love your videos man. Life moves and we change, but the things that immortalize us are the actions we take. You do some cool things ma man, stay gold Ponyboy.
Thanks for the video, Cody. I love all of your gold panning and refining/smelting videos, they're my favorite to watch. Would love to see you make a genuine gold ring with what you've panned, please do go back to that river!
Good Day Sir! Thank you for this little glimpse into your life yet again. Hope your parents are doing alright and the weather hasn't been too bad out there. Always a good day when I see a Cody'sLab video in my feed. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and hope you figure out whatever it is you are going through right now!
@@k20nutz parasocial andys are being hella dramatic on this video lol It's understandable cause they feel like Cody is their friend but I imagine it must feel weird on his end, he's got people he doesn't know the slightest thing about talking about his life like it's a Netflix drama
Your intro to this upload is very well done and is superb! Definitely enjoyed the post, thank you. Healthy amount of gold recovered considering the relatively small amount of material washed. 👍👍🤟🤙
A video from Cody is always a treat. That he's playing with precious metals makes it all the better. To bad RU-vid had a problem with your old mining videos.
Aw hoped you made up with Canyon but alas that's how life goes sometimes, my own isn't exactly a fairytale either. You are a inspiring person and can be be proud of all the people motivated by your videos to do their own backyard science! _(Cheers from Amsterdam!)_
I like these videos! I'm grateful that you post old content, as well! It's motivating. Often we look back at older clips, and think it's not good enough to upload, but it for sure is! I have a lot of feelings attached to this, time...
Man all that lead is an ecological disaster haha. Awesome how there is still so much gold. Just imagine what it wouldve been like during the gold rush!
I need to pay more attention, this is exactly what happened in college. I was two and a half minutes into the video before I realized he was panning for gold. I thought he was trying to electrocute fish or something.
Hey Cody, good to see you. It's always nice to complete a project, even if it takes four years. You are looking much healthier, stronger, and seem to be at a relative peace at the moment. Good for you! You look ready to try new things, and I am here for it. I look forward to seeing what that is! Keep up the great work. 👍
As he said „Kanyon is no longer with me“ he just meant she’s not in the video, right? It’s not that they broke up or maybe worse, is it? It makes me feel uncomfortable right now.
Had to laugh when you said that was the biggest nugget you’ve ever gotten. I used to pan with a friend in Vermont and New Hampshire, and one day I was all worked up because I’d found our biggest nugget to date. My friend reached down to collect it using a small drinking straw, and drawing it up by inhaling. One minute it was there. The next… he had apparently inhaled or swallowed it! You learn to lower the bar with the whole recreational gold panning thing!
.8 grams gold is about $40 today. Couldn't you pour some nitric or other acid on it to dissolve out the sand and other minerals? Probably not worth the effort for such a small sample. I enjoyed the video, as I enjoy all of them.
@@thevalorousdong7675 Still, there's a BIG difference between the dangers of elemental mercury (significant but something you can deal with reasonably) and mercury salts and organic mercury compounds - some of which are so bioavailable that getting a few drops on your skin can pose lethal danger.
A little bit, but then think he was deliberately going for a spot where all the heavy particles would gather. Then consider people have been all over that river for nearly 200 years.
So I've always wondered... a magnet through a copper pipe falls slowly. Magnet through gold pipe? Hypothesis; slower due to better conductivity of gold.
@@japatton6, gold is soft and doesn't oxidize, which makes it great for a connector coating (no oxidation and also the soft metal will deform a little to make better contact) and bond wires (no bad interactions with the substrates). Silver is probably what you were thinking of, it's the only (pure) metal more conductive than copper.
great vid as always man. it's kinda crazy to me as a non american to see just how much lead shot you can find in rivers in the US, i mean i assume the amount of it that leaches off is negligible, but it's still crazy to know that there's just tons of lead shot in basically every water body
Primitive Survival* (edit: I meant Primitive Technology) recently did a video where he sucessfully smelted iron out of river sand concentrated with a simple riffle sluice. Magentite is apprently really common in rivers!
Hey I don't know if this is wanted, I'm 22 and I really really get how painful this might've been to upload. You're such a great teacher and your videos have had a huge impact on my life. Please see these past years as a gift and not something to miss. We all love you and your teachings so much. ❤️
Growing up 1/2 mile from the river I was always told it still had billions in gold in it. It is kind of insane you were able to just pick a random spot and get as much as you did.
That was not a random spot, he mentioned several times he had scouted the river and studied the lay of the land to find the best spot. Pretty much the exact opposite of a random spot.
I grew up there as well and never heard it had billions worth of gold in it, but there for sure are still large nuggets around that people stumble upon.
It's gratifying work to see the results play out like you expect them to, and can show physical proof in the end... having the gold and other heavy metals shake out to the locations you expect is a nice touch!
The gold is awesome, but holy shit can we talk about the amount of Iron you got from the river? That's now a small thing to overlook, especially in a survivalist context. You should harvest iron from the river and make a frying pan or knife or something.
Yeah, I was talking about the stuff he picked up from the magnet, not the lead. Also, I saw the primitive technology video. I thought a more modern version from Cody would be good, using the magnet to fish out what I assume is magnetic metals. Kind of like a "Society collapsed, here is a quick way for one person to make metal tools/utensils to survive." kind of deal. Primitive Technology went hardcore, but I am curious what a modern person with some simple things like that magnet can yield in comparison.
