Totally agree. I started moonlighting with a Geo Tracker and a 5x8 trailer in the Omaha area. in the 90s. Equipment today much bigger but the business plan has never changed. Always have work.

I see in several hotshot related videos that adding suspension modifications such as airbags is often mentioned. Am I correct in stating that, while a good idea, airbags do not increase GAWR. Airbags will certainly make the truck more capable, stable, and perhaps safer, but as far as legality goes, they do not change what is indicated on the tag on the door from the factory. I often heard similar things about adding larger flotation front tires to dump trucks, for example. It does not change the GAWR.

Great Content Jason, I see a lot of guys down here in Texas hauling with a bunch of ‘different’ combinations. In my opinion to each his own and whatever you have to do to get started as long as you run legally, because the DOT boys and safety blitz’ are not playing around... Stay Safe Driver.

Maybe you could do a video on derating a trailer. Every time I ask a trooper at a scale they look at me like I got two heads. I run a 1 ton dually with a 34’ enclosed gooseneck (I haul mostly classic and exotic that the owners don’t want mingling with other cars). I have 6k axels to keep me right at 26k CGVWR. Although I don’t get close to 26k loaded I do get close to 12k on the axels. Would love to have 7k’s but don’t want to go to cdl.

While shopping around I found southern tailor to be a low cost yet pretty durable trailor.You can almost buy one new from then for cost of a used trailor.Downside is it takes 2-3 weeks to build and cash upfront.

Hey Jason Im Adam, your videos have been a big help but I have a ton of questions. Id like to get signed up to your patron to work through getting started in car and trailer hauling. Im a disabled veteran so Im looking for work that I can do within my limits and think this is a good fit. I have a 2015 GMC duramax 1 ton thats already set up with airbags and hide a ball gooseneck. I live in Idaho so Im getting conflicting stories on how to be legal and what I need sticker and insurance wise. Plus I still need to find the right trailer for car hauling and where to start for work. Any help is greatly appreciated and like I said id be happy to pay for your knowledge . Thanks

Honestly I see a lot of dudes with single car haulers not running DOT numbers because DOT don’t really care. But they’ll have a DOT and proper insurance just not display the number and do scales and all that….

I think the 36 foot 2 car with a full deck is the way to go starting out, I usually find a good freight load going out and bring 2 cars back.

I bought a really nice 20ft 10k car hauler in 06. That didn't last long. It was nice to haul my mustang and farm equipment. Buutt everyone and their brother wanted to borrow it. ( when these people hardly know me and wouldn't let me borrow a roll of tp lol) Then the weekly random towing call at 11pm or 2am. I wasn't a towing service and these people wouldn't do crap for me. I got sick of it and sold it. I miss the trailer but don't miss the moochers. I let people use it (that i knew decently) a good bit. Now from the one guy I didn't expect much but from everything I was never once offered money or anything. Hardly even a thank you from some people. I hauled one guys lifted dodge ramcharger about 20 miles. Left another guy take it 500 miles to pick a car up.

I dont get how you can recommend a brand new trailer for 6200$ bumper pull then a few sentences later mention you can get a used 30-36ft goose for that same amount. A lot of bad info in here I feel.
