I like what I’m hearing right now.... you got the tones and vibe down boss, no doubt about it! BTW I saw SRV twice. The first was shortly after Texas Flood, he played at “the Pit” at the University of Maine the summer of ‘82 or ‘83... I didn’t even know who he was, my best friend said “you’re going to like him” and I never was the same after that night. Saw him again at the state theatre in Portland, Maine years later, after he went sober on the “In Step” tour it was wonderful, but it didn’t have the wild, out of control, about-to-explode feel of the first time, man I’ll never forget his face that night, he was all in.

The magic of Hendrix and other great wah players is they find the tone break point and can make subtle pedal movements above and below to add a sweet squeeze to the notes that isn’t necessarily moving the pedal to the beat of the song...

tried digitech freqout pedal yesterday -- 50% successful; 50% failure. feedback (the whole signal) goes mute when the note decays. not nearly as lively as physical string feedback.

Just last night I ran my crybaby through a 10-band eq pedal. Seemed to focus the tone of the wah better and remove some of the harsh edges in the tone. ...I'll experiment more before forming a definitive opinion. But seemed promising.

Glad to see you're getting settled in to the new digs, and as always, glad to see your posts! While not as sought after as those old Vox's, I've got a '76 Fender fuzz/wah that was my uncle's. My cousin recently gave it to me, still works fine, but I haven't had time to really play around with it

I think I watched every live SRV I could find and you nailed that tone as far as Im concerned. But what really makes it sound correct is mostly the playing style you developed. Not easy to get close to that heavy handed intense feel but here you are. A pleasure to watch your videos and see that SRV legacy go on! Awesome, awesome stuff

I got one of the first batch of Vox Wah Wah in late 1966. It was a truly great wah, but the build up I got made me expect something it wasn't, like a multi-effect pedal. I found a lot of the wah tricks before most people because I got it early and used it a lot. I got nick-named "Wah Wah (my last name)" by local yokel musicians. The Cry Baby is close, but the original is still the best.

I loved what your buddy did with that wah. I recently had a friend of mine redue a modern vox wah I had laying around and honestly hated. After he redid basically the whole pedal he said he was going for the same style you are talking about. That's what I was looking for as well . Omg this wah is amazing now. I would love to send you some photos or something of the inilside of it. I feel like you would love it. He does them for super affordable prices too.

You are probably the only RU-vid guitarist that has a sound setup that can be heard in a video correctly. Other players video sound does not translate as well as yours. The tones that you have are what you are looking for. You may not think so, but you have it. I should know, I have been listening to/for that tone for 35 plus years. The kid playing guitar here Frumpy - How the Gypsy Was Born - Live 1971 (HQ) Almost has it. You have it. You can't change my mind. Thanks for all you do.

SRV '85 "Voo-Doo Child'" tone... Tell Nick he nailed it! - Sounds fantastic! 😊 Matter-of-fact, the whole time you were playing I kept expecting you to jump into "Voo-Doo Child;" although I understand that the "RU-vid Phantoms" watch our every move, lusting to shut-down a video on copyright grounds as often as possible... (I personally think that should be waived when a piece of a song, or even a "lick" is used as part of an instructional demo-video). So I understand why you couldn't... Just a quick question that I hope you might address on your next, or an upcoming vid: "What do you think of the "Vox" compared to the "Cry Baby""? I'm like you, and always preferred the Vox, although I did try a Cry Baby once, but it only made it through one set, then I tossed it to the side, hooked my Vox back up and never looked back! On a 1>10 scale, I'd give the Cry Baby about a 6, possibly a 6.5; but the Vox is a 10 everyday... especially if you know someone who can set it up (I knew an ass-kicking tech at a music store in Fargo, ND - when the band I was in at the time used to pass through that area on I-94 quite often; (this was during about the mid-80s). I dropped off all my gear there once, when we had a couple of weeks off, and asked him to check everything out whenever he had time, and let me know what needed fixing. One of the things he ended up doing was setting up my Vox, and after, it sounded almost exactly like yours does. (Loved it)! I ended up, however, after I got off the road, trading it for a Marshall Origin 50 Combo that I got for a steal, as it wasn't working... (I ended up replacing the ECC83's with some "like new" replacements I found at the same music shop in Fargo and it roared back to life)! - I still play it from time to time, but now I have to "borrow" it from my son, who wanted it for his 16th birthday (in 2001). My "at home" guitar amp is now a Fender Frontman 10G (headphones keep the wife happy...). - But actually it's surprising how decent this tiny amp sounds for just a "keep my fingers loosened up and my calluses in-check" practice amp. - Add a few pedals, mic it up, and it would be fine if I ever decided to drop-in on "open mic night" at the local Barrio (once this COVID-19 stuff either ends or kills everyone however...). So anyway, congratulations; and enjoy the Vox my brother, it's part of the collection of some of the most important pieces of blues/rock history!!! 😊

I saw and heard Jimi Hendrix (without Curtis Knight already) in 1967 in the Beat Club on German TV and recorded "Hush Now" (with Curtis Knight) at about the same time from radio on tape. I was (still I am) impressed by the clear and harsh sound of his wah-wah. Now I know where it came from. I now have the single in my collection. Btw. my 1965 Gibson Firebird 1 non-reverse looks just like Yours with the retrofitted single bridge and another switch, the P90s and the little damage above the bird at the screw...and I´ve found a name on the inner side of the rear plate. Maybe it belongs to a Swedish guitarist, I am still researching. Kind Regards from Bremen in the North of Germany.
