Thank you Hans, this helps me make the decision to give ROON another try. I had a problem where I did not like show tunes mixed in with classical in the albums category. I'll try again to see if I can correct that.thanks again, always informative.
Thank you, that helped add a few techniques for me. One point of confusion CAN be classical performers who are also notable performers. Leonard Bernstein would be the prime example. In reality, even though he comes up as “composer” when searched for, his recordings of other composers works do show up. I don’t know if this works for all such examples. One problem, which never quite goes away, is if the metadata does not follow this method. Sometimes, in Qobuz (but probably others), the conductor is combined with the orchestra as ONE artist, rather than 2 discreet entries. I usually have to do a keyword search and edit the entries (thank goodness you can do this). Also, when ripping cds, one must really pay attention to what CDDB grabs. For boxed sets, you may need to edit multiple albums and “merge” in order to keep the set as one entry. Certainly, whatever the limits of Roon are, it’s far far better than the native apps for streaming services!
Thank you, some nice tips there. I noticed how snappy your installation is, compared to mine (running on an older Mac mini). Is this the Nucleus One at work? I think I would use focus/filter more if it were more responsive.
I used the SonicTransporter i7 CDR here (www.smallgreencomputer.com/collections/audio-server/products/sonictransporter-i7-cdr). The Nucleus One is just asx snappy if you have a smaller catalog.
Hello Hans, I'm getting my dose of Jazz, and metadata with Roon, at Jazz de Ville sourced in Netherlands I think. What other Jazz streams can you recommend? TY. /Peter F.
If that is your Composer list ? It is both large and diverse Roon is a powerful tool which I have never really considered heretofore This is a useful tutorial especially for someone like myself who enjoys classical music
You should also try the new Audirvana. Roon smears sound, as you would call it :) I only use the old version of Audirvana, before it became subscription based and it sounds very neutral and clear. I run it on my modified Mac mini 2024.
My only source is Tidal and I didn't like Roon. Unless things have changed, couldn't access Tidal's My Daily Discovery, it didn't show tracks I had already favorited in Tidal, and it didn't show upcoming tracks in the radios. All of those were deal breakers for me.
Can you tell us what hardware you're running Roon on? I started with a Roon Nucleus and currently have a Nucleus + with 16GB of RAM, and neither one was ever as responsive as is shown in this video.
I use the SonicTransporter:www.smallgreencomputer.com/products/sonictransporter-i7-cdr?variant=15818622337058 and an iPad Pro 2.. But things also depend on your internet speed and if your network is setup properly.
Roon works equally well with downloaded/local files as well as streaming. However it doesn't do the downloading itself, you would use the music streaming service for that if it allows it (as Qobuz does for example). Once the downloaded files are added to your Roon Core library, then Roon will show you both the downloaded and streaming versions to choose from.
