When Hae Sung called Nora one last time, he also knew that that was the last time he was going to see her. The flashback made me cry instantly. You could see that both of them wanted to go back in time - to be 12 year olds again. The ending was really sad and I wish it ended differently.

Well said. I felt so overwhelmingly sad for Nora, Hae Sung, & Nora's husband Arthur throughout the movie. As many other people have already stated about this movie, there's no villains in this story, just 3 decent people trying to figure out how to deal with a truly heartbreaking situation.

The sad is what makes it tragic and beautiful

I hardly think it wasn't realistic for both to get together; Nora wasn't going to leave her husband and Haesung knew it.

IDK, I think it was a beautiful ending. I think that flashback was more a reference to the idea that they finally gained closure which they never got because of how closed off Hae Sung became as a child when he learned Na Young was leaving. to me it was bittersweet, the ending of something but the beginning of the next phase, the closure they needed to move on and cherish their lives.

the what ifs in this movie is really what makes this movie special. it really made me think of my own life and my own what ifs. such a bittersweet movie

Such a bittersweet movie. The final scene just made my heart ache.

Spoiler Alert! I think at the very end... Hae Sung found closure. He was never rude to Nora during the entire film... but while waiting for the Uber on the final scene, he tells Nora "You are the one who always leaves". I never left". This is absolutely true as Nora leaves him as children to go to Canada and then she leaves him again when reconnected 12 years after to focus on her career. Those words from Hae Sung broke her (literally) when she (once again) becomes a "crybaby" in the arms of Arthur. Wow... powerful stuff!!!

Totally agree i think that Nora never looked at Hae Sung in that way that she would have seriously considered leaving Arthur for him. Hae Sung probably felt like he wanted that to maybe happen, but by the end has come to accept it never will.

The way her eyes would glow while looking at Hae Sung, i felt so bad for Arthur. I know she wasnt deeply in love. She loves her husband but shes not in love. There is a difference. I loved this movie because it was realistic. It was simply the wrong time thats it

Thank you for sharing your breakdown of the movie and offering words of comfort for those who dwell on “what if’s”. Hearing that was what I needed.

What a great breakdown and thought interpretation of the film. I thought that the way the movie was paced, and the intentionality with the frame enhanced, and emphasized the unspoken words.

I believe that Nora loves her husband very much but is not "in-love" with him. I believe the reason why she dreams in Korean is because her true self is free when she isn't restrained with her current reality. Her breaking down in tears to me was her subconscious telling her how she really felt. Not sure if she actually did anything about it though since she kind of accepted things the way they were, not living her dream, living in some small apartment and marrying the first guy that shared the same interest as her. I think she would have been much happier with Have Sung since he represented a part of her that was untainted with the realities of adulthood and inspired her to think about her dreams again.

You took the words right out of my mouth. That's basically what I've been trying to say. I definitely think if there were an epilogue, it could go many different ways but I think maybe they got divorced not because of him specifically because he is a genuine guy but rather because of the fact that she rediscovered herself.

Also you can kind of tell just from their eyes. A lot of the times when shes talking to Hae Sung, theres this glimmer in her eyes that you dont see when she talks with her husband in their apartment.

This was a great review. Have watched this movie 4 times and find something new each time. The music 🎶 s beautiful. Especially on Nora’s walk back to Arthur after Hae Song leaves. The scene showing Hae Song looking out the window of his Uber mirroring him looking out the window when they were 12 after their date with Nora sleeping on his shoulder.

I watched it last night and loved it sooo much. Loved how it also explores the feeling of longing for something/someone. Hae Sung represents her past and her culture, which makes the connection feel more intense.
