Those wondering about the immigration officers accent, well his backstory is that he was born in Australia, went to college in Ireland for ten years and regularly eats New Zealand lamb -thats what i was going for and i think i nailed it thanks

Immigration official: "Do you have a criminal conviction?" Immigrant: "Didn't know I still needed one."

True story (independently vetted by my mum when I returned and said "dad told me the story about immigrating to Australia," and she responded "Jesus, about what he said to the official?") from my dad. He and my mum tried a few places out before settling permanently in Canada, including Australia which was crying out for teachers in the early 70s. Because of this, I was very easy for teachers to get visas and then they practically fell over themselves to get you citizenship. As my parents intended to return to Australia, they decided to do that before returning to Ireland. (Then they got pregnant while living in Canada the following year, and that was the start of my older brother ruining everything.) While gong through my dad's papers, the official reviewing their case said "as an Irish immigrant, do you have any problems swearing allegiance to the queen?" "No, not as long as you don't mind me swearing a few other things at her." The man laughed and stamped my dad approved. 🤦🏻‍♀️

The Matildas should rep us in the WC, at least they win shit. Edit: in light of the Matildas not exactly thrilling at the Olympics, the new plan is to send the Diamonds. Genuinely would play better soccer than the actual soccer team.

I love how they still had to go through the test when the immigration official already knew at the start that they were going to be deported. Immigration officials are some of the scariest people on earth.

Love the sausage bit at the end. As a Chinese immigrant to Australia, I can totally vouch for that from my real life experience - getting my bags searched while entering the country, every time😅. One time I was even searched for food when arriving at Perth from Melbourne.

Back in the early 1980s, my company sent a few of us to Australia to open an office in Melbourne. One of the guys I knew told me that after the usual brief chat with an immigration officer, the officer told him he had been approved for permanent residency and gave him his permit on the spot. The kicker with that is that my friend hadn't actually applied for permanent residency! Nonetheless, Australia honored it for decades. The only catch was that if he left the country for 3 years or more, it would expire. I lost touch long ago, but last I heard, he still had his residency permit!

The sausages in the bag reminds me of when sniffer dogs stood at my daughter-in-law's bag, and the Customs Officer told her to open the bag. Removed the Goa sausages lovingly packed by her Mom and threw them in the garbage. No more sausages after that.😢

It's only summer all year round in Queensland and the top end of the Northern Territory. It's currently 8 degrees here in South Australia! South Australia, Victoria, NSW and Western Australia tend to get pretty clear cut seasons. Its's always marginally colder in Tassie, but I've never been there so I cant tell you much about their annual climate.
