i did this to my 5 frame last friday and then checked my package that i install on the 2nd of august. the package has requeened and a nice virgin was in there. i hope she makes it back safe and sound.
Thanks for sharing. Thats how I do it here in Pa. One deep nuc and one med of honey work out good last winter. thay never even moved up into the med for the honey all winter. Not sure here if I even needed the med of honey.
Hey Joe, at 3:38 there is a frame not drawn out. Why are they not fully drawing that out if they are running out of room? Is it a feeding thing? Great Video, I learned a lot, Thank you again for all the help you give us all.
The queen has all the frames laid full they just did not have enough bees to keep up with the queen. I was a little a head of the game but in 2 weeks this box will be packed with bees.
Quick question Joe... I always seem to have trouble getting the bees to draw out comb. I have some starter strips on the outside of the brood chamber and they never seem to really want to draw it out. Should I move a strip into the middle of the brood and then rotate it out then place another strip in again to keep getting extra drawn comb? Of course while doing this I know I need to keep them fed with 1:1. Thank you for the helpful videos!!! Keep them coming!
Thanks for the great videos Joe! I have a question for ya about treating for varroa. Some people have been saying you are now using distilled water and oxalic acid. Is it true? Does the water work well to carry the acid in the fogger? Also I'm in California and the best I can do is everclear 75% alcohol which is 151 proof. The water would be much better as well as cheaper. Please let me know what you think. Thanks
Skinny Bee Man, got a ? I have a very strong split that has blown up with bees very very strong it’s now mid October and in California we are expected warm weather next week. Should I move 2 frames of brood up to give them space? Thank you.
Thanks for tips, but they are working hard now not much out there some fall flow going. The weather will be dropping next week to low 70s. But by mid to end November they will shut down. Worries to me is my buddy had one of his Saskatraz hives swarm in late December. I’m just trying to do everything possible now to avoid those girls from swarming because they are just booming still.
Little Bits Honey Bees also I think I’m going to go to all starter strips and let them draw, I believe what you said they will draw there own better than plastic.
I have wintered in single nuc, double nuc and one deep and one med. A deep and a medium is the way I like to winter. On average we get two weeks of zero. No I do not use queen excluders at all.
I have a hive with two deeps and two honey supers on top. There is brood in the honey supers and I am not harvesting honey. I want to add another deep and was wondering if I can get them out of the honey supers or should I just leave them on and put another deep under the two honey supers with one drawn out frame of comb in the middle. I've seen people using the bee escapes but they say that if there is brood the nurse bees will not leave anyway. If I put a deep on top of the honey supers will they eventually leave the honey supers and move into the deep?
make sure the queen is in the bottom two deep then put a queen extruder on top of the two deep. when the brood hatches out they will fill it with honey.
