The bosses can no longer be cheesed with staves. On the one hand, Reinhardt not being berserkable is lame. On the other, Sara one shotting him is hilarious, so it equals out in the end.
The fact that I don't deploy Tina in this map really shows just how much more limited the Thief Staff's utility is in this hack.
Due to some story changes, Saias is not only capturable, but also killable in this chapter. As far as I saw, he's not even recruitable in a vanilla-adjacent playthrough, only on the alternative route, which you take as early as chapter 2. Or maybe it depends on Olwen's recruitment or lack thereof and all the consequences of that choice. Will attempt to figure it out on a later playthrough.
This chapter could be made so much more reliable with an A staffer or two. Another user of Warp and Again are still just invaluable. Maybe you could even capture both Cohen and Saias at once, which is made incredibly annoying by them both having Miracle. Or you could steal the Master Proof, if you care enough, I guess.
I also wanted to mention that it's hilarious that promoting Lara twice is actually somewhat valuable. Since each class change, even if it's an event "demotion", gives a movement star, there's actual value to it, beyond the meme. A dancer with a 20% chance to move again can be incredibly useful at times. Not to mention how easy rigging becomes, if you're into that.

saias's recruitment conditions are that you didn't recruit/killed saphy, and never recruited tina (basically not getting either of them creates space in your roster that he can then take). you then have to have mareeta talk to him during this chapter. you also can't kill the boss of this chapter (his uncle). if you do, he'll leave between chapters. you can actually also recruit reinhardt during this chapter, though that's... a whole mess of other weird, obscure requirements (you have to skip chapter 11 gaiden and do A route during the split)

YO IS THAT A PLAYABLE KEMPF I SEE?!?

Yep, he's recruitable with Olwen on A route. In the vanilla convo he gets mad at Olwen and orders his troops to break formation to hunt her down. In this hack he gets mad and says he'll prove himself better than Reinhardt and joins Leif's army. He also tries to order his soldiers to kill the boss of 16A, but they just call him a traitor and remain red. His recruitment blocks Ilios from being recruited and vice versa, since they hate each other. I know things are different if you capture Olwen in 10 and skip 11x, in which case Fred and Olwen don't join you, since they never see the captured children. I think Kempf gets recruited by Leif himself and Ilios can join alongside him. In this case Kempf can also potentially recruit Reinhardt, which also leads to getting Olwen in 22. The hack has a lot of alternative events and units like that.

@@Prince_LeifFirst link in the description or google FE Universe New Theory of Thracia 776. There's more info about the hack overall and its creator posts all the updates and new features on the thread as well. The OP of the thread also has links to some guides explaining mechanical changes and character recruitment on the dev's blog. They also have a RU-vid channel, which is just called ai, but I think it should show up if you just search up "fe5 ai". Although my searches are most likely affected by being subscribed.

@@Prince_LeifOh, also, a small disclaimer. This vid was recorded on a notably older version of the hack. There are quite a few differences and mechanical changes, so some things can no longer be done. For example, in this version going Thief -> Master Thief -> Dancer > Master Dancer with Lara gives her 3 additional movement stars, for a total of 4. No longer possible, because it caps movement star gains on promo cap out at 1 now. Although there are now also seals that lower prepromotes', level by 10 and give them a star, which wasn't possible in the older versions.

Ironically the easiest way to do it is with Kempf: Remove one paladin near Saias, warp Kempf in with Bragi sword if you went A route, talk to Reinhardt, capture Saias with Kempf then rescue him Coen can then be dealt with Discount Valflame that you stole from Saias

True, and it's actually pretty funny and satisfying. But it's a tradition for me at this point to kill Rein with Sara, so didn't want to break it.

Why even bother with Vanilla Thracia 776 anymore, this is the definitive edition of the game regarding gameplay and techniques to use> there is so much more the base game, already a very gameplay rich one, feels barebones!

I wouldn't say New Theory is a straight up replacement of vanilla Thracia. While the hack manages to keep true to the spirit of the original, its design philosophy is vastly different. And whichever one somebody prefers will depend on them. For example, stat inflation is a major aspect of gameplay, that some might not enjoy, even though I'd say it's better thought out than basically any inflation hack I've played. 40 caps have a major effect on how the game feels and creates different incentives in terms of training up units, compared to the original FE5. One more aspect is the general nerf to staffers in terms of fatigue accumulation, staff rank gain (+5 fatigue per use of Mend for 2 wexp? bleh), inability to hammerne them and how many bosses are straight up immune to them. You're forced to cycle through staff units and/or use S drinks on them much more frequently than on combat ones. Rewarping someone and have them do combat is now much riskier... unless it's Vantage!Sara or Wrath!Nanna, I guess, due to the fatigue status enabling Wrath. The unit that's affected the hardest by such design is Tina, who can no longer perform the moderate amount of tomfoolery she could in vanilla. While the Thief staff still has its uses, the fact that it's ineffective against many of the bosses and is permanently locked to 4 uses per playthrough limits its utility so much, as to be almost unrecognisable from the original. Warpskipping is much more limited in the earlier chapters due to Warp not being hammernable and is less viable later on due to the strength of some of the bosses. Arguably better design, since it forces the player to play more of the game, but very different nonetheless. PCC is gone entirely and makes the units who could easily get 100% chance to crit in vanilla much less reliable in that aspect in New Theory. Nerfs to some units I find rather questionable, such as Tina and Sara. Not only are their growths affected heavily by the "always over 100% HP growth", depriving me of the funny 80% mag/skl/spd, their movement is also lowered for some inconceivable reason. Sara also loses Paragon and gives it to Miranda, apparently. At least Sara gets a dark magic promotion and the ability to use Veld's stoning tome in the final chapter, I guess. Poor Tina simply pulled the short end of the stick and gets canto... which isn't even all that useful on her. Mind you I'm not necessarily criticizing these changes, just pointing out how the hack is not necessarily a replacement of Thracia 776. People have different preferences. The three aspects of the hack that I think are a straight up improvement over vanilla Thracia are: 1. Fatigue is much more impactful overall and decreases the perverse incentive to fatigue out a single unit as much as possible on a map, before benching them for the next one. It affecting staff units so heavily is, again questionable imo, but the general changes to the mechanic are very good. 2. Some maps provide more anti-turtling incentives that were either cheasable or lacking in threat in the original, others give the player new interactions to make them less frustrating. Not all map changes are for the better, mind you, there are plenty that some players find annoying and unfair. 3. The incredible amount of optional events and recruitments, an entire slew of alternative playable characters, which adds an incredible amount of variability between playthroughs. Probably the main reason I would recommend people who like Thracia to try this hack out.
