We definitely agree that mold can be found in just about any environment. In fact, an attic space is actually a space that is undoubtably going to have mold spores as it is meant to be conditioned by the outdoor environment year round (this is what your upper and lower ventilation is for). There are 2 things we think are important to remember. 1) Mold in an attic space is a byproduct of an underlying root cause issue. Mold will not grow unless there is a moisture problem. In an attic space the issues usually stem from either ventilation or insulation problems/deficiencies. The root cause issues are at a minimum as important and most likely more important that actually addressing the mold problem in an attic space. C 2) While we agree that attic mold usually poses very little threat to the health or safety of the inhabitants of the home as the amount of air that exchanges from attic to living space is negligible at most....you have to keep in mind that most of the attic mold projects we complete are driven by the real estate market. Understandably, most home buyers would prefer not to purchase a home that has mold growing on the structural components of the roof.
