Join us as we focus on remodelling our 1970s Viscount caravan.
In this video we strip the old floor out and inspect the steel chassis underneath. There will be some rust, and some grinding action, before we can prep and paint.
Along the way we also fix some rotten timber holding the aluminium skin together.
There's still lots to do to get the caravan usable again.
This will be the subject of a complete modern makeover, as we renovate and modernise the entire interior essentially creating a new build.

Goodness, so glad you were thorough and stripped back the floor, and finding the cracks in your chassis, glad this can be remedied. Good job.

I haven’t done my flooring as of yet but the older caravans have asbestos in the flooring cutting it would put the particles in the air

Yes be very careful and always wear safety gear!

Looks like you're having to pretty much build the caravan from scratch!

Remeber the idea you had about making your own fridge pannel, I think you were on to something.

Fi is really natural on the camera. I like the way she presents. I also think she did far more work than you Joh! Incidentally - I was watching a video yesterday on a guy from the US build his own little trailer. The corners had putty tape around them to seal them and then some trim over the top. Perhaps the glue stuff you found when you took the trim off is that? Did you get the welding done? It looks like you painted over that section so I'm guessing you did or else it'd have to be ground away. Looks like you're pretty much starting from scratch - I figured you'd just throw in a few new scatter cushions and be done with it haha. I also hate sikaflex. I always end up getting it all over me no matter how careful I am. Great job and video as always.

Thanks Rich! Yes she did heaps, I’m blaming my bad back 😉 The paint is easy to sand back for welding, that will happen next episode 👍

It’s called mastic under the edge mould it’s shit in our hot weather it drips out of the moulding and what’s left goes hard and brittle

@@feeandjohsrenovationshow iv been in the industry for 15 years working as a sole trader now its pretty much all I use is sika roof and gutter clear or white has a really good adhesion and good flex for when the van is in travel. When your ready to do the roof sheets or wall sheet if you decide to use a liquid nails find something with a high flex as the chassis flex you get while the van is in travel can crack the adhesion and cause the walls or roof to sag

Good advice, thanks. I was thinking of using plasterboard adhesive on the interior lining, thoughts?

Any thoughts on using a sandblaster to remove the rust?

Yes, if I had one I would have used it! Much better than hours of grinding or sanding.
