@@digdrivediyConsidering the number of comments agreeing with the concept of custom mud-flaps, if you do make a set or 6 you may have a unique merchandise opportunity. Louie
As a GM guy, I much prefer the General. However Louie looks like a solid rig. Im a rather new subscriber, but what sold me and continues to sell me on your channel is your genuine excitment/love for everything you do. Keep it up man!
Sad to see it go…but you had your fun and I agree on your excitement for the new owner. I’ll always remember our conversation and talking about buying used, tooling it up, using it, then selling it to put towards the upgrade.
Louie! Looks like a good buffing is all that louie needs. I also agree that some custom dig drive diy mud flaps would look pretty sharp! The yard is also looking great.
Have say the General out of nostalgia. I watched that truck come and go every day out my back door. I was a neighbor of the original owner for over twenty years. It was great to see it running again in your videos.
That's a nice looking rig! The L9000 Aeromax was the first semi truck I ever drove. 3406B Cat with a 9 speed. It felt like a Cadillac compared to the S1800 International dump truck I learned on.
The trucks we drove as youngsters were very impressionable it seems. I too got an early dose of the Louisville trucks. At 15 I got to move semis around for my cousin farmers and the L8000 was my favorite of the two. It seems like the dash stayed the same for about 20 years! (Their other semi was an S1800 as well! The cab felt like it was 20' wide)
My Grandad used to drive a Leyland Octopus (among many others) back in England. It's one of the last topics we spoke about before he passed. He was in love with trucks, especially remembering the ones he got to drive in his life. I have a drawer full of his magazines.
I would love to see a future updated video on the General to see what the new buyers have done with it! As a diesel mechanic, both trucks are awesome, but the overall condition of the L9000 looks amazing. One owner truck before you bought it??!!! Wow, you couldn’t pass this one up. Who knows what future projects you could use this for or if you have a side business hauling just so you get to drive. I’m the same as you…love trucks! Keep up the great videos. 🇨🇦 fan.
Neil, you have absolutely nothing to apologize for my man! This entire video just shows what a great person you are at heart…just the fact you felt like you somehow needed to explain yourself by making this video says it all! Your RU-vid channel is finding success, very well earned, and this is just growing pains. I know this new found success has to feel so awkward, I honestly can’t imagine, but you’ve earned it just as much as any other RU-vid star! All the best Neil and family, and please don’t be ashamed.
@@digdrivediy I know you do Neil, and that is the reason I said it. You are good people, and your subs will always support good people. I can’t imagine how awkward all this feels to you, I know how awkward it would feel to me, but you’ve earned it just as much OR MORE than any other RU-vidr at this stage. Don’t apologize for it. However, I do know some day your channel is going to be TTWT or even MOOR big someday, and you won’t be able to read and reply to every single comment! Just know we all love you and your family, and we won’t feel slighted in least if you don’t reply to us all. You are SO far ahead of the RU-vid game with it just being yourself and your family, and not 10 other people with sponsorships. Love you buddy, and just keep doing you!
As you mentioned in your video I am more of a general type person. I've always liked that big grill looking at you when you meet it coming down the road. But I do like the Ford ltl9000 they both would be in my bucket list of fun trucks to have. But at this stage it would just be to drive around to the truck shows with Mom and have people see what one really looks like. Don't worry I will still fill in driving for you even with Louis it is a good-looking good running truck I think you did good. Dad
Louie for the win! I worked at a Ford dealership in the late 80's as a lot boy and got to take delivery of everything from the 1989 Ford Probe (so futuristic!) to the 88/89/90 L and CLT variants, and the Cargo variants with just the cab and frame on them. Nothing like doing donuts in the huge back lot in the snow with a front-heavy vehicle. Those were the days.
Louie gets my vote. Same as you, I grew up in the 80's & 90's. I have always loved watching those L9000's haul and dump. Almost iconic now 30 years later.
What matters is what YOU preferred. You fulfilled a childhood dream and that is more than someone's opinion on the "better" truck. Oh, and of course it was a NC boy that came to the rescue - it's what we do! ;-) Love the channel - and if I'm lucky - I'll see ya back here next time!
Neil - you’re a great storyteller. I’ve never wanted an old dump truck . . . . until now! :) PS - still hoping your next project is a Bronco. I’ve got a bit of an obsession with the old Ford Broncos. I think I’ve owned 8 of them - from a 1979 model to a 1996.
I vote Louie ! I love how you work hard and do things that take time and effort to improve your property . It’s rare theses days to see that old school mentality of doing whatever it takes to get ahead and get the job done ! I hope there are teenagers out there watching your channel and getting inspired to work hard in life to succeed!! Appreciate your attitude and content
The General has the old old school looks for sure. Louie is a better fit for you, your preference, your plans and still has a really cool look. It will also be a lot easier to get him to a fixed up and cleaned up state and just use him for work! There's also a lot to be said for the functional updates between the two. Louie will be way nicer to run when needed and has a lot better visibility without the huge box of a hood the general has. Great upgrade!
Neil I was born an raised a Ford guy so I'm going with Louie for sure. I came across your channel last month and I really enjoy your content. You, like myself, have an old soul. It's great to see your dad and uncle still able to get out do jobs with you. I'm 45, my dad is 78 and he's not able to get out in the garage and do the things that he once taught me to do when I was young. I wish you and your family the best and look forward to more of your videos. 😊
Neil I like the General in the side by side but I like Louie from the drone shots. And I had a Black Lab named Louie for 13 years❤️, so my pick is Louie🤗 Thanks for sharing 👍🇺🇸
Louie...Love the lines and once he is polished up he is going to be sleek looking. For being 30 years old, that truck looks to be in excellent condition! Great find Neil!!!
Nice purchase, they are both great looking trucks. I’m close to the same age as you and I prefer the L9000 style over the General, but actually love your 750. I think this one fits you better. Louie will be a good truck. Congratulations!
The Louie looks great, the General looked too intimidating for you to drive because your a nice guy that just goes with the flow. I really have enjoyed your series of videos thus far Best regards Neil Cheers from Dennis Brisbane Qld Australia.
I personally like the style of the gmc better but at the end of the day I think Louie will make a better truck for you. You never fail to make awesome content!
I like Louie, very nice looking truck! Same as you growing up in the late 80’s and early 90’s here in coal country I loved the old Fords and R model Mack’s. Neil the thing I enjoy so much about your channel is your relationship with your dad! Looking very forward to seeing more on the L9000. Take care!
Louie all the way. I have some really great stuff to bring those headlights to their former glory. It’s a kit that has sandpaper, compound to polish and a clear coat you put on to restore them to like new condition. I used the stuff one time and haven’t used it since. If interested I’m happy to ship it to you for free so you can put it to good use.
Another amazing video by you. I am a business owner as well, and I own a few vans for wheelchair transportation you said in the video that you had to get rid of one to pay for the other well that settled it right there I guess but if you were able to keep both, I would’ve kept them both that’s my problem. I have a hard time letting go of things after I own them, I feel like they’re always speaking to me and as a business owner the way I look at it those trucks can make your money so if there’s a way that you could keep both of them and keep them both on the road and keep them working 12 hours a day. It’s worth it to keep them both, but if it’s pure leisure in the video of the RU-vid channel, you did the right thing.
I thought I was the only Ford Louisville nut! lol!!! That is from the LTS 8000 series from back in 75 when it was first introduced. That is an aero max 106. My uncle was the first person here in Ontario canada to own a LNT 8000 tandem dump truck. He ran them til the late 80’s. I was hooked when I went on a ride with him when I was 9 years old in 77. Best memories ever! I would pick a Louisville all day everyday over a Pete or Kenny!
I’m so glad you posted this video this week I’m in Florida right now and just bought my 16th dump truck since high school . I got it too man! Don’t know what it is but the old guys where I live call it “ the fever”. Young guys call it something a little, less polite😂. I grew up in a general but I think you made the right choice. I’ve had couple of those Louisvilles and when they’re all shined up, they look real good. Plus the setback front axle makes it effortless getting into places. My brother Ronnie has a triaxle that had that same brand of body on it . He got a lot of work out of it before he had to replace it. Great video!!
Thanks Steve. I actually wondered what your opinion was of the Fords. I hope you found a new beauty and I'm glad I'm not the only one with this affliction!
I have to say Louie! After 50 some years driving of Mixer Truck and Dump Trucks I was raised as a Ford man! My Dad and Uncle always had Fords and so did I! Loved them for their looks, power and dependability! Wish I had kept a milage sheet for all of them years driving all over Eastern Iowa, I'm sure I had over a Million miles under my seat, and I loved it all of the time. I was told by my customers that I was the best of the best for my skill of spreading rock in reverse!! Thank you for your channel and all you do! Makes this old retired Truck driver happy!!!!!
I prefer the General but I'm a GM guy. Always have been but Louie looks pretty good. Worked for a concrete company when I was a much much younger guy. They had GMC's and Fords. Loved the old GMC bob tails. I think that's what got me loving the GM's. Great videos thanks a bunch.
I love all and I mean all your video's some are funny some are educational but all are appreciated thank you for what you do. Best wishes to you and your family .
I appreciate how you highlight th community aspect of your life. The people that make it worth it. Growing up the way I did I didn't really get that. Super cool to see
There is a third choice, which is my choice, I say both, bet they both would look sweet all decked out, both appear to be good runners, and oh what fun it would be to find a sand box big enough to go play in! 😮😊😂 thanks for the update sir.
Doesn’t matter what other people think about the looks and don’t feel bad if they choose the general. What matters is what you like and don’t ever change what you like just because of what others like more. Everyone has a different taste on looks and it will always be that way.
I remember that older video like it was yesterday. That’s the most I’ve ever been impressed with a dump truck driver. If my memory is right it seems like he kept those outside dual’s on the back thin because it grabbed less gravel on the edge or kept the edge smooth or something to that effect. But that guy was certainly impressive to listen to.
I like Louie, I think you'll enjoy it more than the General. The General has so much history, and I would love to see what the new buyers have done with it!
Louie!!! I'm a Ford guy also. It seems every week you wake up an old memory for me. You touched upon a skilled dump truck driver who was good at spreading. My story goes like this. We were building our fourth house out in the country, (sweat equity) and it had a quite long driveway. It soon became nothing but a couple of ruts so like you I convinced myself I needed to buy the proper equipment for the job. I already had a brand-new John Deere Garden tractor so it made sense to me that a center mounted blade would be the ticket. Off I go to the dealer, dropped down a few hundred bucks, (several actually) hung it on the tractor and ordered a couple loads of 87s. Well, the driver delivered the stuff and totally spoiled my plans. He backed up to the house, got out to ask if I wanted him to spread it. Sure! That would make it easier for me. Well, he did. And it was so perfect I had absolutely nothing to use my new blade on. It looked like he put it down with a paver. I was told I had a rather stupid look on my face. We just got back from our last trip to Minnesota and you're not the only one with a dry hole in your back yard. No ponds left down here either.
I don`t know much about dump trucks, but any vehicle that was one owner, just look how clean Louie is, who ever owned it took great care of it, the interior of the General needed a power washing before I would even sit in it. Louie on the other hand, clean the interior up, power wash the out side, and I think with the right compound, this truck would buff up nice, buff and polish those aluminun rims, and you have one very clean dump truck, in fantastic condition, I think the L9000 is a no brainer, when the outside is that clean, no dents nothing broken, you would assume the engine has been cared for as well. I did like the big semi type nose on the General, but it was pretty beat up, Louie looks 10 years newer, nice purchase for you.
Well that’s fantastic, I love how excited you look when you talk about the dump trucks 😃 On a side note I just watched last weeks video as well and left a comment with a question on the process of getting a new lawn started. I hope you get a moment to respond 😊 maybe even an update video for next week. Cheers, enjoy the day!
Kinda like the cylinder index. The more the better, wish you could keep them both. It looks like the Ford is a nicer truck, more life in her . But what do I know. Keep on trucking my friend. Cheers
I'll go with the general , It had a much bigger box and They are a very sought after truck. They are easily able to turn sharper after a little little fix.
I'm 50/50 on the trucks, I love them both and I'm glad it wasn't me that had to choose.😄 I'm with you, I love the 80s and 90s trucks most of all. The only thing I will say is that Louie looks like less of a project than the General based on his overall condition. Looking forward to seeing more of him.👍
As an old school Ford truck guy, L9000 all day but the the General was also cool and I'm glad to see it being put back in service instead of the junk yard.
Love your videos, Neil..I've been watching y'all for a few months now, and just realized from this one that you're in Indiana! I saw the Hoosier Lottery sign when your father was test driving the L9000 and had a lightbulb moment 😂 Checked your about info and confirmed my theory. I really should have figured this out sooner, considering all the corn you're surrounded by- but I'm so used to it, the connection didn't even register, lol. Greetings from Evansville!
I laughed when you showed Louie, there was silence.... then, "I bought it" 😂 You didn't make a mistake, if that's what you want, that's what you want. Congrats, and do something extra for the wife also 😂
I personally like The General's looks more, plus its got a built in awesome name. But if the Ford speaks to you, I'm glad you listened. Old International's speak to me, so i get it!
Louie. Not just an empty compliment here, but I had my pick this morning to watch Matt's, Fab Rats or yours first. 200k is only the start. Your stories, filming and editing are the reason I clicked here first. Keep on Truckin' as they say...
The “General” has that Smokey and the bandit era look that I’ve always liked. But I must admit, I do like the overall look of the Ford better as it look more streamlined! Enjoy the new truck!
I could go either way on General and Louie. From the drone shot it looks like the General is somewhat larger than Louie. So it is a matter of load need and you being satisfied. I have always wanted a helicopter but I don’t think I would start out with a Jolly Green. I would start with an old Bell and work my way up.
