Nobody talks enough about chord theory. That's why I love your channel. Your definently filling a void. I've been playing over 16 years and learning more advanced chord theory can be like pulling teeth. It's all sweep picking and pentatonics,major/ minor scale, and modes but without the chord theory foundation they are useless in practical application.

Dude I just started watching your videos yesterday and what I appreciate the most about you is how easy you make it to learn and how not boring you are like most. You even play heavy hardcore style metal on some which is what I'm going for. It's hard to explain my gratitude but teaching from many genre styles helps me so much . You're an awesome man. I'm hooked to your stuff . I need some more dark sounding scales.

Jake's instructional videos (actually the whole channel) are the best available on RU-vid. He's a great teacher, a great musician and a great producer. The production is top shelf but more importantly, the lessons are consise, entertaining and so thorough. When I come across any theory concepts that I'm having trouble absorbing, I always check "Signals " to see if he's covered it because I know that I'll have a full understanding of the concept after watching his video.

I can't upvote this guy enough. Always worthy of a watch. To expand on this lesson, take a root note and find all 3 desending 3-note (only) arpeggios (all 3 Major arps in key will be the same, all 3 relative minor arps will be the same, then learn these 3 mini arps for the seventh chord as well). Say the notes as you do, for nothing will teach you better where note names are on your fretboard, and you'll easily see how to 'walk' up your chord tones over the chord. (You'll see the 4th between 3rd+5th, and easily recognize 6th and 7th degrees, and know there name/letter) If you don't know chord theory, it is super simple. Learn it and be amazed that you didn't already figure it out on your own. Dominant or Major 7th is about the only real trick, for 9/11/13ths, or which notes to drop for voicing notes (drop 5th from Major chord for example).

@wijk89
@wijk89 6 лет назад
The B minor arpeggio shape is almost the same as the minor pentatonic. That's probably why it is so easy to,use in a solo. You almost always land on a note from the chord so you resolve without having to really know what you're doing.

So at the very end you talk about knowing which notes to emphasize based on the chords you're "soloing" over. Is the concept there that if I'm playing a 1,3,5 in A major then I should be focusing on the 1,3,5 in the arrpegio?

How is it that A Major scale works with the B minor chord?
@MrBriang1
@MrBriang1 2 года назад
B Minor chord is the second chord in the A Major scale, so all the the notes in the the B Minor chord will be found in the A Major scale A Major scale => A B C# D E F# G# B Minor Chord=> B D F# So emphasising these notes from the A Major scale over the B Minor chord will sound fine.
