All developers and inspiring developers should be cloud competent. This means creating an account and getting your hands dirty.
The best place to start is with AWS cloud. Most businesses are either already in the cloud or are making their way. If you lack this skill, you are already behind.

The great thing about learning AWS UI is that once you master it, you can wait a couple months and relearn it all over again when they move everything.

My situation is that I've mainly dealt with Microsoft Azure and 365 at work. Some companies use AWS but I haven't been so lucky to work for one of those. So, basically I'm here on my own volition to see what all it entails to setup a free learning AWS account. Thank you!

Thanks allot for the helpful flow into getting the aws account setup. In regards to the aws cluster though i think i am going to do just that try and run a kubernetes cluster on it apparently it is doable for free. 🧐

Billing is by and large the biggest barrier to entry for most folks getting into AWS, and even seasoned AWS pros have been bit by unexpected charges. It's one area where Amazon/AWS could really do more to improve their adoption rate for those on the fence about getting into working with AWS. Great video, however!

Hi Travis, thanks for the video! Question: I opened an aws account a year ago but never used it much, but now, I need to start learning. Can I open a new aws account, same name, same credit card BUT different E-mail and still be eligible for the free tier? The internet community is divided on this issue.

Thanks for the video. I am able to flow until the part that sets up billing alert. My aws is completely different from yours. No where to find "alarm" and "billling alart" part. I searched but nothing shows. Please help.

What I'm trying to figure out is can I simulate a LAN environment? For instance, 5 workstations and a server with user IDs for each person. So in other words, would I do something like set up a server instance and 5 workstation instances and could those workstation instances see the server instance just like they would on a traditional local LAN? And then I could run LAN-based software using that setup where each workstation instance is accessing data files stored on the server instance?

This was great! - What I am struggling to find and learn about is "IAM Identity Center"(IAM IC) The setup of OU's and Accounts and then the Users within. Can you do a Video on That? IAM IC seems new enough that there is no videos about it. I was hoping yours would touch on it as this video is new. But again you just used IAM like others (I don't blame you it looks easier). And some IAM IC content I read told me not to use IAM and just use IAM IC. From there provisioning a Service into those accounts, is where I want to be, while being able to use Root User to login and oversee??? I want to start out like I intend to finish (using AWS also as the IDM for our company) and the information I am seeing does not refer to IAM (the original IAM) it refers to IAM Identity Center. IAM user login then does not work, So very confused! Why did they call it the same thing???

Attempting this now and so far so good but I can get an error when trying to create the billing alarm for EstimatedCharges, `Alarm creation is not enabled if your graph contains metrics from different regions` it gives me a learn more link but doesn't seem helpful did anyone else run into this and how did you resolve it if you did?

Nevermind fixed it, I had to change the region in 2 places instead of the one,

@@Bankai3474 where did you change the region at I only found the one drop down under browse? Edit: Found it, for others having this issue select the source button to the right of browse. and make sure all mentions of region are set to the same, i.e.: us-east-1.

Fine this is where I got stuck cos you told me where to go, but not how to get there, and I can't see anything you clicked on there, nor is the URL changing at the top to give me some clue, so I gave up right there. Seemingly you had this section in your favorites or something, I didn't, obviously, and don't know where it is... AWS just too big for me to go searching for stuff.

Love this!!! But I need more help! Does anyone know of a way to create a Virtual Environment or Machine on AWS or Linode or somesuch? I am able to learn quite a lot at work, however, I do not have permissions to install software on my work machine. I'm wondering if there is a way to create a virtual machine somewhere, I'm thinking either on Linode or AWS, where I could install software to use in that environment and continue my learning. I'm asking this because while I've been able to do a lot of front-end work and learning (actually using AWS Cloud9 IDE), now that I'm diving more into the world of the backend, I need to be able to have more control over the machine that I'm using. If anyone knows of any way that I can do this, I'd sincerely appreciate it!
