Your my teacher. I recieved my eggs (18) from a local breeder. Put them in the incubator and on the 13th day they started pipping, so I stopped the turning and raised the humidity. 13 eggs hatched and only two chicks didn't survive. Pretty good numbers! You have been so informative and I owe you a debt of gratitude❤
This was a primer introductory video that covered every question I had about getting started raising Coturnix Quails. Thank you. I've seen some of your other videos before, and they were all well done and informative, but this one was why I am now subscribed to your channel.
My fiancé and I are just gettin started!!! Wow, this video was extremely helpful. I now have a better understanding on getting started and what to do. Thank you!!!!
Just wanted to say that I use your cage system outside. I also do the roll out trays but I put a lid with a clasp and carabiner clip through it. We have raccoons and stray cats and they can’t get to any of them!
Can't say this often enough. My very first hatched baby drowned. It's been 20 years ago and I'm still pissed at myself. Sorry, don't know how I put this at the wrong comment. It was "putting pea gravel in the water" comment.
This video is so helpful! The heat has murdered the laying rate for my chickens, so we want to get a larger supply of eggs during the cooler months, and this video has been very helpful to help us make decisions for this winter/springa
Just found your Channel, I subscribed! I plan to order eggs from MyShireFarm, I’m subscribed to him as well. As well as ordering eggs from EBay. I saved up enough money to get EVERYTHING. (I’m 14 and do 4-H) and I am planning to order come Spring.
You should also check out gold Shaw farm- do you follow White House on the hill? They Are both really great farming channels!! And if you're really interested in birds there's this channel called 'a chick called Albert' and I really think you'd like it-- I'm 16 and I started raising birds when I was about your age, 14ish
@@CoturnixCorner hi Terry I live in northern Ireland and was looking some point on cages and keeping quail for eggs sales and pointers would be appreciated
Thank you for this informative presentation. I needed to understand the basics of raising quail to determine if I could make it work for me and my particular circumstances. I don't think I have what it takes to do it, so I appreciate you sparing me the failed effort. I will continue to enjoy watching others such as you who do this so well.
Thank you so much for your videos, I have successfully hatched 8 of them so far out of a dozen, they are currently in the brooder looking adorable. Incredibly informative videos.
Perfect timing for a beginners video. My first batch of 30 Jumbo Wilds from Myshire Farm just went into the incubator. I'm still in the process of building your stacked cage design with egg roll outs.
Last 10 years I’ve learned to hatch my chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys finally this year I have added quail to my homestead seen all kinds of videos on hatching etc and wanted to say for someone that has never done it your video would be very helpful - very well put together - thanks for sharing
just found you.. I am just getting interested.... This is the perfect video.... It appropriately addressed all of my basic questions. My sincere thanks!!!
I'm super new to this hobby. I'm a few days away from lockdown as I'm on day 10. I'm super excited as I candled and saw some chicks inside. Your videos are a huge help!
Very informative and concise! Looking to start up alternative means of protein source for the family. You are a God Send. I do pray many will wise up and follow you with your suggestions. Been an urbanite all my life but I'm not afraid to venture into something new. Thank you again and God Bless. Will continue to follow your quail channel..
well i am glad i found this channel. it looks like it will answer many of the questions i have about possibly raising breeding and selling quail and quail eggs from our homestead
I'm not rasing quail yet gotta get everything together and I plan on raising Bob white but you have so much great information on quail in general its great thank you very much will continue to watch your videos again thank u very much
I built my quail condo 2ftx8ft stacked three layers. Each layer is divided into two 2ftx4ft pens. The top two pens are my breeder/layers and the bottom two layers - two pens each are growout pens. I produce mainly for meat. My set up is a little beefier because it's out in a covered run that is very secure but I do protect against snake and rats/mice. I fashioned a hinged lid over the protruding 5inch portion of the rollout egg trays for the top two breeder/layer pens that I can secure with a latch. Nothing can penetrate my quail condos. I cover the back with plywood like you do but also have temporary plywood covers I put on the sides when temps fall below freezing so that only the front of the cage is exposed. I also have built 1ftWx2ftD shelter in the breeder/layer pens running front to back with a plywood door on the front. The quail have a side arch door from the pen. The floor is solid plywood and in the winter I lay in pine flake bedding. In spring/summer/fall I place a sand bath container in there. The birds like the privacy - they even lay their eggs in the sand. This serves as an additional shelter for the quail to snuggle/warm from the winter temps. Similar to you I breed/raise Jumbo Pharaoh and Jumbo White Recessive quail.
Thank you for this video. It was a big help and I will be re-watching it several times before I order my eggs. I feed many with little and this will help with protein for those in need. Ma 2
Thank you so much for this information. I feel more confident about beginning the process of raising quail. Your videos are very good for us beginners.
Just a tip... if you will put pea gravel in the the water tray. They will get plenty of water between the gravel rocks. No drowning or getting wet! God bless you all.
great video, I just started raising my own quails back in Africa (Ghana) and so far things are working really well by watching some of your videos. I had someone made me the incubator holding about 440 eggs. my first 30 eggs i was able to get about 21 hatcheries and second one 90 eggs i got 51 hatch rate. my question is what I do to ingress my hatch rate? Thanks
Just make sure your temperature and humidity is constant throughout the incubator, and your male to female ratio is good so you have a good fertility rate.
Hey Terry, love your videos. I just finished my quail cages for outside. I combined your design with Chris's design from Slightly Rednecked, I think I am going to like the outcome. Just moved my first hatch out into the new cages, we'll how it turns out. Thanks for the great info.
Hi, thanks for the video as it has given me an insight into the things that I need to be aware of. Would the grown up quails be fine out in the garden aviary with a pen inside it to shelter at night. Please advise
Thank you for your videos, Terry! I built a cage according to your video with the watering and feeding systems. Couldn’t have done it without you! Do my quail need a sand box? I’ve seen others suggest them, so I don’t know if they are necessary in certain circumstances.
Thank you again, I was growing quail for a little bit, quit and now at it again. I just needed a refresher course. I put in 86 eggs in and got 45, I’m kind of disappointed but ok.
My dad had 2000 quails layers every three quail he had a meal he had his incubator end it would work real good a old serious roebuck that’s when I was 18 now I’m 60 and I’m trying to do the same but I don’t remember too much what he done so I’m trying 1 hundred eggs I got my incubator at 99 temperature can’t wait to see How it ends up like the video you just had let me know when y’all have y’all videos cajun Land Church Point Louisiana
For cage birds I recommend rabbit water bottles. They cant knock it over, contaminate it, babies cant kick shavings in it or jump in it. They gravitate so easy to water bottles. I prefer homemade with rabbit water nipples like a 5 gallon bucket and tubing but seriously rabbit bottles are cheap and they are 1 million times better than poultry waterers. I never once thought myself to purchase rabbit bottles for my birds back when I had them (health reasons I needed to take a step back and my rabbits were just easier and lower maintenance) but a friend showed me hers drinking from them when I was complaining that my quail never get all this water the poultry waterer is supposedly retaining to release slowly. They kick shavings in causing a wicking effect which ruins the shavings, or they poop in it etc. So when she showed me the bottle thing instead it was a game changer it made them easier than they were to have peace of mind they had a consistent clean water source. I do plan on getting quail and ducks etc again at the new place and when I do Im setting up the rabbit water nipples. Ducks need head dipping nose clensing water for sure too but they mucky up their water so much I like knowing for drinking water they have that source too so in between their water cleanings they have clean water they know they can drink. The rabbit nipples are easy enough birds of different beak shapes can use too. Also I use to cohab my quail and rabbits so it was good they had something they both could use. I love your new aviary. I didnt top mine so when the fox came and sat next to the pen the poor little boogers thought the fox was inside with them and they super jumped/semi flew over the fence and the fox got them. I now know I can use deer netting to top my pens and its helped a lot with my rabbits from aerial predators so I think I will be trying to make an aviary for next year. Your video was very inspirational with your aviary. It solves all the predator issues Inwas having. It keeps the quail in and keeps predators out.
I build a cage for outside with the roll out, but still kept the spot where the eggs roll to still inside the cage. Eliminating the gap that could a potential predator door.
I just started raising them. I hatched my first eggs in July and another group in August. I have 24 right now and I want to get up to between 40-60 at some point so I can raise meat birds and eggs.
Hello Terry, thanks for the great videos. I am starting with quail. I have several eggs in my incubator. I want to plan myself in the amount of food that I will need. Can you give me the details of how much food they eat until start laying and then after? I have Jumbo wild eggs. Thanks
This video is just in time. I just recieved 120 eggs today and haven't completed building my cage. I am making yours but I will modify the egg receptacle with a hatch like a chicken coop. I will cover the j-feeders as well. Thank you very much!
I am new to quail but have been raising & hatching chickens in Central Florida for the past several years. I assumed it was the same for the most part & this video confirmed that. I saw that you are in SW Florida, so my question is… do I need to register with FWC in order to raise, breed, hatch & sell my quail eggs & birds?
