Yes. Gedmatch is confusing. I hope you'll stop focusing on the admixture and working on building a family tree based on your DNA matches. It's challenging work but doesn't change as much as the DNA ethnicity percentages.

From what I can tell every site collects the information. When the site does not tell it is collecting the information it is probably collecting the information anyway. If you are unhappy with the situation, as a practical matter, I suggest crawling under a rock (i.e.,do not use the internet) to remain unseen.

Correct, this is all standard stuff. They collect what browser information so that they can optimize code, they collect IP address to get an idea of where the users of the site are located. Basically every website in the world (except for the most basically encoded) gathers this same information and more. The fact that you posted on RU-vid is evidence that Google has gathered a bunch of statistical data on you.

No, I actually have one kit that I have uploaded at least 3 times on different accounts.

That depends on the questions you're asking. GEDmatch has a database from people who've never tested on MyHeritage but have voluntarily migrated their DNA results from their testing company (such as 23andMe, Family Tree DNA, Living DNA, Ancestry). Finding genetic cousins across multiple platforms is great, but the size of the GEDmatch database is not the sum total of everyone who has tested. You'll miss out on matching folks who have not chosen to migrate their results there. With that in mind, it's difficult to answer whether MyHeritage or GEDmatch is more accurate as it all depends on who you're hoping to match and whether they're in the same database.

Yes, you can load multiple tests. I have done myself, my mother and my sister. They are all loaded on my account. Each one will receive it's own unique test number.

Yes. You can upload multiple tests to one account. I do this for my parents, siblings, and so forth.

Upload all of them, pay for TIer 1 and create a superkit which will combine all of the kit data.

Not the same way that Ancestry or MyHeritage does. You have to check back periodically and run new reports.

Since you're new to GEDmatch, I advise you to explore these videos. I described them in a blog post but they should help you out. There is a link about downloading your DNA and then uploading it to GEDmatch.

Uploading to GEDmatch is by definition personal use. You're trying to find your relatives, just on another website.

The reference populations for your particular heritage may not be expansive enough. Usually when this happens you see generic groups like "European" as opposed to more specific like "Iberian".

Your RAW DNA doesn't change. So no, don't reupload that. You can reupload a GEDcom file (the family tree) as you add more lines to your file (or correct others).

I can kinda answer that for you. Your matches from Ancestory will only show you matches of any potential relatives who ALSO tested through Ancestory. You may have other relatives who tested through some of the other testing companies like 23 and me, ftdna (Family tree DNA), MyHeritage, etc. Gedmatch.com is kind of like...a warehouse. It accepts the DNA data from most other testing companies and allows you to see matches from those other companies. For example, let's say you have a 3rd cousin who used 23 and me to test their DnA, if both of you only keep your DNA on your sites (you on Ancestory, them on 23 and me) the two of you wouldn't show up as a match on either of those sites. If however you both upload your DNA data into Gedmatch, then you will show as matched in the Gedmatch one to many comparison. ...Also, Gedmatch gets pretty...nerdy...with the data and some hobbyists and experts have made specific reports that can analyse your DNA and give you sometimes more specific information on specific heritage locations and populations you match with that Ancestory might not get that specific with...but that takes a bit of research to know what to select to see those results. Those are the "Admixture" reports...but that's a whole other video. Long story short- uploading your DNA data to Gedmatch is worth the time and effort. It's an awesome tool

Great Question. GEDmatch helps you 1) Compare your DNA with people who didn't test with Ancestry but transferred their DNA to GEDmatch. 2) Has better research tools than Ancestry (if you're willing to spend the time learning them.)

Leaving answer for others: The values that can appear are Y, blank (none), N, and R. These values indicate which access options you opted for in the Edit Kit page. The "Y" indicates the public, police access option. A blank indicates the public, no police access option. An "N" indicates no public or police access option. An "R" indicates the research only option.

The terms and conditions state that you want to go through and change living persons to "LIVING" or some other term before downloading a gedcom file and uploading it to gedmatch. Apparently, gedcom doesn't sort that for you.

GEDmatch does it's best to mark living people as private but they really put the onus on users to do that before uploading. I would recommend deleting your family tree and then reuploading. Your GEDmatch number should be on the home page under the list of your kits. Is that where you're obtaining the number?

GedMatch is not made for entry level genetic genealogists.

Anyone can suffer from learning disabilities, not just 'entry level' people. It may seem that they are simply complaining about it being confusing to understand, but ADHD is more complex than that. Unclear instructions, layouts etc make it more difficult to do even the most simple things. And way harder for more professional or specific things, even if you are not a beginner. The suggestion that comes from this is, make things clearer. It doesn't mean dilute the information and instructions, just make it more accessible.

Did you download a single chromosome or the entire autosomal DNA? FTDNA downloading can be confusing because of all the different options they give you.

You shouldn't unzip the files from the raw DNA. Download your RAW DNA files again and upload that to GEDmatch without opening it and you should be fine.

on the Ancestry.com website, go to your DNA ethnicity results page, and click the top right button labeled "settings". Scroll down to the end and click on the 'download raw data file' button, and that should do it.

I downloaded my raw data from ancestry using my iPhone and got pages of numbers, confused 🤷‍♀️ can you help explain. Also can I find family members on Gedmatch? Thank you in anticipation.

Lorraine well I’m really not sure on how it works on iPhone. But on laptop or computer, just ignore those numbers, save the file of numbers as DNA file (whatever name you prefer). Then when you get on gedmatch, upload this “DNA file” on gedmatch. The steps to do that in detail are found in a video from this channel. And yes you can indeed find family members, Gedmatch shows you more family members than you would find on ancestry for example, because it mixes multiple databases together. So you might even find someone more closely related to you on Gedmatch, than your top relative on ancestry. Hope this helps and please ask again if you need anymore help.

Your smartphone will have a download file. While it is downloading it should show you a title for the file. Then when you are at the GEDMATCH area to upload you will need to go there to find it (unless you know how to move it into Folders on you phone's drive or on your SD card.)

You can upload his kit to Gedmatch. With permission, I have uploaded all of my relatives to GEDmatch. You definitely should upload his pedigree as well.

On the front page of GEDmatch, after logging in. Look for the list of kits on the lower left side. You should see kits and a number beside it. Do you see that?

You can do one to one matching almost immediately. One to many will take a day to process.

I would advise accessing a spreadsheet on a laptop or computer.
