Thanks so much Aaron!! I have been using your tutorials to support my job we do field site visits and surveys of wastewater systems. I thought it important to let you know how useful this is for keeping data super organized! I wish I had seen these videos during my graduate school research. Thanks so much again for taking the time! Big fan now.

Good stuff! Nice to see something up to date on Qfield. I work in remote regions, mapping, often without signal. On your video you brought in your base map as 'world imagery'. I'm presuming to use this in the field it requires signal to load that imagery? Would you recommend with no signal, cropping a piece of the satellite imagery to an area of interest, saving as a GEOtiff for example and then just working on that when there's no signal, so you still have a good resolution in the field?
@geoace
@geoace Год назад
You're correct that the way we set up our basemap in the video will require a consistent signal for usage. In your case, I would actually recommend making your own tile package for performance reasons. The "Generate XYZ tiles" tools in QGIS will do this for you. The nice thing about the tile creation method is that you can actually use the same basemap (such as World Imagery used here) to make your offline copy. Thanks for your feedback! While we're going to continue focusing on the forms for a while, this is a great tutorial idea that we'll add to our queue.

@@geoace Thanks! This would be a good tutorial, also explaining the 'map themes' when setting a basemap, as in what this allows you to do (different to a single layer).

Hello. While collecting data via qfield on my phone, the photo taking tab does not appear. What could be the reason for this?

So, I have gotten this far just messing around with QGIS and QField for iOS - but so far it seems like just a way to do mobile digitization. It is more unclear to me how I actually capture tracks - for example, I'd like to walk a number of buried water/utility lines I've put into my property and capture those as vectors - not digitizing, just capturing via GPS/cell triangulation/wifi coordinates. Is there a way to do this with QField?

Hi, great videos, thank you 😊 Is there any way I can export locally stored project folders from my phone? One of my colleagues created a project folder which I was able to download to QField on my iPhone, but it is stored as an ‘imported local file’ (I didn’t realise this before using it in the field, I thought everything would automatically sync to the cloud if I was signed in! 😢). I can see on Android there is the option to export project files from within the app, but this doesn’t exist on IOS… so do I need to connect my phone to my MacBook and “manually” transfer the project folder to then share it back to colleagues (who use Android!)? Many thanks for any advice you can provide 😊

Hi there! Sorry I didn't get to this much sooner, I just haven't had much time to look into it. I believe the only current way to do this is by using iTunes, but I've never used this particular workflow (and in general I hate all iTunes-related tasks on windows machines, which I have). Now that QFieldCloud is a paid service, I've been considering putting a few videos out there regarding non-QFieldCloud workflows... but no concrete plans yet. It's definitely good to know the interest is there! Here's the relevant documentation: docs.qfield.org/get-started/storage/ Edit: If you have a computer that you use, either mac or windows, my preferred route would just be to sync your data using QGIS and then zip/send to your colleague (though I realize that none of these are ideal).
@cesaraugustoarevalorivenso3551
hello. I am beginning to use Qfield, for field work of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Formosa-Argentian province. and my query is how many pollsters can download the same qigs project, to carry out field work? I await your attentive response. thank you
@geoace
@geoace Год назад
Hi there. You can have an unlimited amount of users downloading and using the same QGIS project for field work. Note that if you're using wired connections to sync/transfer data, it might become cumbersome to do the syncing depending on how often your users need to visit the office to do so. If you're using QField Cloud (as used in this tutorial and hosted at qfield.cloud/), then you're limited by the number of named/paid users. You could share login info, but I wouldn't recommend it for syncing reasons. Lastly, if you do have a preference for QFieldCloud and have a high number of users that you don't necessarily have the budget for, I would recommend setting up your own QFieldCloud server. We have a small VM slotted for this in our production stack currently; you could probably accomplish it for less than $50/mo once set up. You'd be paying only for the cloud virtual machine since the server itself is open source and the same as what's hosted and available at qfield.cloud. Summary: Lots of options here. I would answer the questions and decide accordingly: How many users? What volume of data are you expecting? How regularly will the average user sync? What does the internet connectivity in the field look like?

Hello, thanks for making this tutorial. When I open this file on my iPad after adding the slider, I selected the "plant" layer and have the edit (pencil) selected, and when return to my project screen, I don't have the green plus sign to create a new point. It works on my iPhone, but not my iPad. Any ideas? Thanks so much!
@geoace
@geoace 8 месяцев назад
Hi there! Thanks for watching, and sorry you're having troubles. I haven't had any issues with the slider except when using the dial in iOS. I take it you're going through the same process as the second tutorial (minute marker 1:30 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RxwTsilx0eI.html), correct? Perhaps it's a max/min issue since I have never gone too crazy with it, or something similar? If you find out what it is - please report back! Happy to continue helping as I can.

@@geoace- Hi there, thanks for your speedy reply. I sincerely appreciate it. Would you be open to a 30 minute or 1 hour paid consultation to help me finish the ground control points capturing “form” in QGIS for use in the field in QField for my new drone company? I think I’m so close but need a little help. Thanks for considering it.

How do I make it work in iOS by “importing URL”? I have files stored on my Dropbox account. Getting nowhere with this and have tried all (very little written about this online). Totally stuck 😩

Hi, I'm happy to help as I can... but I'll need more info. What kind of files are stored on your dropbox account? Are they publicly accessible? Can you get the import to work in QGIS?
@Henkadj
@Henkadj Год назад
@@geoace Hi, I try to point QField to a Dropbox-folder containing: 1. A shape file in which I want to collect data, with three editable fields: “Name”, “Comment”, “Photo” (for this one I choose “Attachment” in Widget Type drop down menu). 2. “Attachment” zip file (in which photos will be stored (was generated automatically in above step) 3. A background mbtiles raster of an ortho-photo of the area. 4. A geopackage polygon file showing the boundaries of my project area. I created all this within QGiS with the help of this tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_gTAdXCWnIg.html What do you mean by having the files publicly accessible? Can I make my Dropbox-folder that? I follow the instructions here when attempting to connect QGiS to the Dropbox-folder (importing URL the only option since I have iPhone, not Android): docs.qfield.org/get-started/storage/

@@Henkadj Thanks for the extra information. Took me a minute to figure it out, but here you go: This actually has to do with the default URL dropbox uses. Instead of a dl=0 at the end, change the URL to dl=1. Example: www.dropbox.com/s/6quvtw75lb9sdk7/qfield_mbtile.zip?dl=1 (you can use this to test if you want). I'll make a tutorial on how to do this after the next video is released about autocompletes. This answer was given only 5 days ago on the developer github page: github.com/opengisch/QField/pull/4027#issuecomment-1523515715 Hope this helps you out!

Any clue when QField for iOS will allow you to connect to an external receiver?
@geoace
@geoace Год назад
I'm not sure, to be honest. Have you by any chance tried connecting to a receiver via bluetooth just to see if it inherently does it (i.e., the accuracy vastly improves without changing settings in the QField app itself)? I think on Input (now mergin maps) a while ago I observed that behavior. In any scenario, I'm getting my external GPS back at the end of this week and will try it just to see what happens.
@EthnoDocs
@EthnoDocs Год назад
@@geoace I’ve wondered the same. I don’t have one currently available, but I’m getting a Juniper Geode later this month. Let me know what you find out when you try it.

@@EthnoDocs Just tried with our EOS Arrow 100 and couldn't get anywhere. I know the GPS was reading on the device correctly (submeter accuracy), but accuracy didn't improve in either QField or Mergin Maps unfortunately. I'd be curious if it'd work if you used one of these devices: merginmaps.com/docs/field/external_gps/#list-of-known-supported-gps-devices Looks like the Juniper Geode is on there. Please report back if it works!

@@geoace Woah! I wish I had found that list a few months ago. I ordered the Geode last week and it should be here in a week or two. I will be pairing it with an Android tablet running QField, but it would be great if my iPhone could serve as a backup. I'll report back.

Hi, I'm using 'QField iOS' now, and I'm trying to connect an external GNSS receiver for survey grade accuracy. I've read this is a simple 'Bluetooth' pairing on the 'Android' platform, but not so with iOS. I have Emlid Base & Rover receivers that I use with 'Emlid Flow Survey', but I'd also really like to use these receivers with 'QField'. I've found the 'setting' in 'QField' for configuring a 'TCP' or 'UDP' connection to an external GNSS receiver, (which apparently are the only options for iOS), but I can't seem to get the receiver successfully connected. There seems to be limited documentation on the process. Do you have any experience with connecting an external GNSS receiver to iDevice from within QField iOS?
@geoace
@geoace Год назад
Hi Chris, I do but not specific to your units. I don't have experience with Emlid units, but I have been successful in connecting our EOS devices and Timble R2s a few times. You're absolutely right - it's not the easiest process especially compared to an android device and until I can actually do a tutorial on it (backlog of about a month right now), I figure giving an example will be the best route to take and hopefully you can draw some comparisons. Four the EOS units, I had to load the EOS-specific GPS App to my phone (EOSToolsPro), and from there I clicked on info to get the TCP Server address (URLS: geoace.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/IMG_4997.jpg; geoace.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/IMG_4995.jpg). Once you've written down the port number, you can use it to set up your GPS in QField in the TCP section or as otherwise appropriate (URLS: geoace.net/wp-admin/upload.php?item=3353; geoace.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/IMG_4998.png; geoace.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Screenshot-2023-05-08-at-17.03.46.jpg ). The main thing to note is that for any GPS-specific app directly on your device, your IP address will likely be 127.0.0.1 or localhost. Hope this helps! If you get it to work, please let me know so I can add it to my not-at-all-official "list of GPS devices QField will work with on iOS."
