Great. Only EQ, and a bit delay and reverb. The world could be so easy. There is no need for plugin wars. Good sounds and recordings and some stock plugins are the key for great music. Thank you for sharing.

I always bounce out a pure top mic and bottom mic after my drums are finished . Secret weapon for later . Same with the kick with front and beater . 90 percent of the time they get blended in on a separate bus

This is a good one! I think I asked you to do a video like this a couple years ago and here it is! haha! Some great tips here. It's interesting that new artists are looking for more vintage style recorded sounds. It makes sense through, because so many new songs sound kind of "plastic" (for lack of a better word). Analog is starting to make a big comeback. Even the next generation of computer architecture will most likely be analog. One big circle! :)

I use FL Studio. I like to automate the swing with a LFO for groove.. I also like to automate the decay of hi hats plus use multiple hi hats in a sequential round robin..

For me personally I am searching more for a sound of 70s rock and metal bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Creedence. I've been watched all videos on this topic here on RU-vid (actually there aren't a lot of such videos) and I realized that tips like in this video don't apply to 70s rock and metal because there are very opposite picture: all is wet, all is big and all is as natural as you could get it in the room. For me I just found that it helps to record guitar and bass not only through the close mic, but through the room mic and add it in is a big influence in that natural feeling. Also vocals needs to be recorded in a natural biggish room and not too close to the mic (in your video vocals recorded too close to the mic and it immediately breaks all vintage vibe and it screams about it modernity). Piece!

It’s ironic - having recorded onto tape -8 and then 16 track to start with, we were striving to get away from all the dryness and were seeking greater separation and, please get more tracks! Lol Now we’re striving to get back to the beginning. It is a lot easier to just play it right with a good sound and then move on. What we miss out on is the spontaneity of those early days. Production decisions were made early. Imagine recording the song and mixing it all in one day! Never happens unless we will it so. And so that’s how it goes. Does anyone play instruments anymore? This is one frightening outcome of our reliance on technology. Thankfully both of my sons actually play but their friend down the street uses his computer and headphones. He has a tonne of stuff he creates - valid? Invalid? Music is music I guess smh!

Very cool. Interesting, though-because there was an A/B comparison, the difference in overall tone is quite drastic, and i kinda think i would have preferred something somewhere in the middle. But, had i only heard one or the other, i'd just think it was either 'modern' or 'vintage/retro,' and i'd likely have no opinion about the tone. But, the vintage version was definitely 'duller,' which may be authentic, but with that direct comparison, i'm not sure if i like it objectively. Even though i pretty much worship at the alter of 'vintage' and i *love* Fleetwood Mac of that era.

So the first and most valuable "tip" in this video is "learn how to play a damn instrument, you bedroom rockstar, you can't fake musicianship with watching ableton tips on youtube" Which hurts, but it's true. The magic you hear on those records is not achieved by applying a lowpass filter, the magic comes from a microphone standing in a room filled with _good musicians_

haha! Greedy me thought I simply copy your AD Drums settings and would have a great 70s drums preset for the future. But "of course" it sounds way different from yours because only half of the changes / processing can be seen in your video. That's ecaxtly what I deserved *lol*

If you change the velocity of midi notes, and then later use compression to level the sound, can you even tell the difference anymore? Just curious, and thanks so much for these great videos. :)
@tentacionvital
@tentacionvital Год назад
Yes you can beacuse even if the loudness can get similar, instruments (well recorded drum vsts, piano vsts) respond differently to the way you play them. A hi-hat or cymbal played softly sounds different to one played hard, even if you match the loudness of both of them
