I was very surprised to hear that blue is considered the least valuable color in opal. I think opals with blue and purple in them are the most beautiful.
With opal beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I collect gems, and i have noticed what people find attractive in opals varies greatly from person to person. Just my 2c. The electric blues, and the black starfire opal are my favorites.
Very cool, the blue is so unique, it’s hard to believe its not more popular. I never knew till watching your videos there were so many different types of opal. Thanks again for the videos.
Thank you so much for letting us have a look! I watched twice on different screens because the color calibration is not right on my new phone. Arrgh! These are so beautiful.🌈💙🌈
Wow. They are all so beautiful! I really have a hard time choosing a favorite, but I really like the poster child too. With the lighter gray and black patches mixed in with the blues it's outstanding!
These are so beautiful... My dream is to opal mine and learn how to cut them and process them to make them smoothe...I love your videos, thank u for showing us.
@@PulitzerOpal that's terrible.. Your crushing my dream... I'm just teasing.. I dont wanna do it to get rich, I would wanna do it for the thrill and because they are amazing... Ok ok, and to strike it rich...😁 But thank you for answering me.
I can watch for hours opal is by far the most beautiful and interesting gem there is. You never know what combination of colors and shapes you will see.
I just clicked out of a dolmen twins video to watch this !!!! Lol matrix opal is sooooo amazing!!! It’s sooo beautiful I’m such a different way then other opals !!! I hope to own one one day !!!! Pulitzer opals u rock !!!!! I love your videos u have such beautiful opals thanks so share them with us !!!
Pulitzer Opal lol they are the Dolan twins lol I had a typo !!! They are super popular but I clicked off there video to watch yours so that should tell u something!!!! Ur channel is awesome 👏!!! Lol hey I do have a question if I bought some matrix opal is there people I could pay to treat it for me ? I’m very scared to mess with acid and stuff like that but I love matrix opal !!!!
@@PulitzerOpal would you be willing to sell any of these i dont know if its rude to ask on here i dont know how to other wise ask and sorry if it is I don't mean to be
Wow!!! That is all I can say. Such beautiful stones. I just recently found your channel and am learning so much. Thank you for taking your time to explain and teach us about those gorgeous stones. All so unique and beautiful. Why would some opal in matrix treat well and others not. What would be a reason for that? Btw I had to Sub. Your videos are to good to miss.
Back this train up! I just found you and you are giving me a lot of great info! I don't know what you mean by treatment. Can you make a vid to explain? Opal is my fave. I have a boulder opal w fire red in it from coober pedy. I would love to know more about opals in general. I will watch all your vids to learn more. Thanks!
These are incredibly beautiful. The blue and purple are really breathtaking though. I think I’ve fallen in love with matrix opal and must see where they can be bought in the uk and of course if the cost is prohibitive.
Pulitzer Opal thank you ever so much, I’m really grateful for your help. I’ve seen a few sellers on Etsy and I suppose the only way I can find out if they are real is to try. Thanks again x
In any case you can never predict how an opal will turn out to a face value , treatment or just cutting the opal trying to find out something good that is always just a probability. But this is exactly what makes opal unique, never know what your getting , But all that time spent in anticipation makes you love no matter what comes out
I like the broad flash pattern but when its on a smaller stone I like the more coober pedy rainbows . Have you tryed pressure cooking them to get the hard to treat white places to take color?
I’m a bad, bad man, VG! Treated matrix can be as high as $1000 USD per carat. Lightning Ridge black opal can be as high as $35,000 per carat. I should note that I have never seen Andamooka matrix sell for more than $100 per carat. I have a playlist of my Andamooka matrix opal videos. I love it. My wife has a lot of opal jewelry, but I personally don’t think that jewelry should ever be so small that people have to be 1 foot away from it to appreciate it. That is why my wife doesn’t have any black opal jewelry, because I would need it to be at least 15 to 20 carats to meet my criteria for jewelry, where the beauty can be appreciated from three or 4 feet away. I was kidding about being bad. (Mostly)
Brooklyn Style ☑️ I am a former Customs Officer. Yes, you have to declare them. OnlineI have seen opal roughs for less than $100, and you really don’t know what you have until it is cut, so declare them, less than $100.00. That way, if they search your bags, you have declared them already.
Pulitzer Opal thank you so much for the detailed explanation! I had the same thought, that some people may not like the treated opal because it's not "natural". Those end up looking beautiful and I like how some of the treatment isn't uniform and has the streaks of different darkness.
the less treated stones look better. when they are fully treated they look very artificial somehow. and does treating them make them less capable of taking a high polish? because there seem to look a bit gritty on camera compared to other opals.
That black and green one is gorgeous... oddly reminds me of Warpstone (to anyone that is a Warhammer fan you'd know that one) The purple/blue one is beautiful too.. I really need to get me a nice piece of dark opal being an October baby.. I hate white opal. Wait, blue opals are cheap?! Blue and green are my favorite colors (and purple) so I guess I know what I'll look for being a broke SOB.
@@PulitzerOpal eh I seem to gravitate to darker stones for some reason. I've been carrying around a large piece of obsidian for about 25 years.. Well keeping it when we moved. I also found some cool dark brown rock (no clue what it is) in the local river and a big piece of cinnabar that I'm currently trying to figure out how to cut, shape and polish without any tools to do so. I'd cut the cinnabar on our tile saw... but I'm kind of afraid it might have liquid mercury inside and I don't want that going everywhere.
Thank you Sir, you da bom!...seriously though, I fully relate to you enjoyment of discover and your craftsmanship! Wonderful! Have a happy and blessed new year my friend!
Not something big and gaudy, just something modest. I love opals, but where i live its hard to find a jewelry store that has a variety, you know? So im just curious :)
Everybody seems to want this piece! My daughter was here this weekend and she wanted it. I am taking a piece of it (from another cut, not from this exact stone) and making a bezel mount pendant. You very likely will not find a store that sells matrix jewelry.
@@PulitzerOpal yes! I was talking to my mom about it early this morning, and she said i should try looking at JTV website. I did, but they dont have very many matrix options. I think they are so beautiful. But, im glad my tatstes in jewelry are so different bc what i like doesnt cost an arm and a leg!😂😂 if you do decide to do that, please do not hesitate to tell us about it!😁
Do you sell pieces to people like me? I have started to make wooden rings that look pretty good with the wood I have.I'd like to try and market some.I go with the "God is in the details" approach.See what happens.
I have a theory and I'm probably wrong I usually am on why some matrix opal treatwell and why some don't now mind you I'm only a casual Observer but I also watch other videos on RU-vid some deal with. Rocks and minerals and some with refining have you ever heard of the word passivation I believe that's how it's pronounced concerning refining especially refining silver with using too Strong a solution of silver in Solution. The silver will form a passive coating over the copper and won't cement out of solution I think you're using too strong a solution on some stones check it out and let me know I'm curious
Thank you so much for pointing me in that direction, I just recently got into opal and am just amazed and astounded everytime I see a new piece. I managed to win my first auction yesterday from opal auctions. Will definitely be going further into the opal world now.
I like these ones where you missed the colour bar plain quite a bit! They’re easier on the eyes! The other ones seem too grainy for me. Am I the only weirdo here? Lol
Out of the one you are saying is not so great, U are the expert and only see mistakes on something you just don't think is up to snuff, would you sale me one small one with lots of green in it!I would keep up in my pocket I always keep a stone with me Its just one of my odd ways, I understand it not good for the store. I have my pocket stone by my bed and pick the days stone every morning. I would be honored to be able to keep a opal from a Legendary cutter of your calibre ! One day that seem dark I could pull it out of my pocket and be reminded of the colors that can come from the dark days! Most dont understand why I do alot of the little thing I do. I explain to them I don't care if you understand me or not don't try!!
