Welcome back to another Blue Moon Life video! This video is a bit different: we weren't able to film a regular vlog this week, so instead we are sharing a reading of excerpts from Ralph Waldo Emerson's essays about nature, which first appeared in 1836. We wanted to share the text because we feel it captures some of the essence of how we feel and think about nature, and our relationship to nature and the ocean, especially during the spring.
The text discusses the concept of motion and change, as well as identity and rest, in nature. It emphasizes that nature is consistent in following its laws, even though it may seem to go against them at times. The text also highlights the interconnectedness and continuity of all natural elements, from the poles to the tropics, from rocks to living organisms. It touches on the idea that everything in nature is in a constant state of transition and progression towards consciousness. Additionally, the text suggests that nature holds clues and evidence of the existence and necessity of different elements, including humans, in its intricate web of relationships.
Sailing is a practice that involves understanding and working in harmony with the dynamic forces of nature, such as wind, water, and weather, to navigate a sailboat. The principles described in the text can be related to sailing in various ways. Sailors must understand the movement of wind, which drives the sails and propels the boat forward. They need to be adept at adjusting the sails to capture the most favorable winds and optimize the boat's speed and direction. Sailors must consider the motion of the water, such as waves, tides, and currents, which can affect the boat's performance and course. Being attuned to the ever-changing motion of wind and water is crucial in sailing to make adjustments and respond to the dynamic conditions on the water.
All the text read in this video are in the public domain, and it is used with the following permissions: "This ebook is for the use of anyone anywhere in the United States and most other parts of the world at no cost and with almost no restrictions whatsoever. You may copy it, give it away or re-use it under the terms of the Project Gutenberg License included with this ebook or online at www.gutenberg.org"

I like it. I also like videos about going where the weather suits your clothes, banking off of the north east wind, sailing on a summer breeze, skipping over the ocean like a stone. Do good, be safe.

I’ve subscribed from time to time, off and on … currently ‘on’ … what brings me back is the videography, which is often spectacular. It’s generous of you to share your life-journey so interestingly. TBH not sure about Waldo … he’s an acquired taste, not one I’ve been drawn to, but I love the innovation in principle. Try some other writers, perhaps reflecting the internationalist audience you seem to have acquired? But some of your most successful videos have been free of voices … just outstanding filming and clever editing. ASMR, really! Thanks again for sharing.

I was struck by the sentence, "Nature who made the mason, made the house." After all, birds and beavers build things, too! While I certainly enjoy getting "out into nature", the reality is that we are not removed from nature. We are part of it, even in our houses and cities.

Just because you are a sailing channel, everything doesn't have to be sailing, it should be about YOUR life, that you graciously share with us. I loved your reading, it has been many years since I heard anything by :Emerson", I will have to find a source for his works. It is strange that something that was penned almost two hundred years ago is still relevant in today's world.

I saw you all on Exploring Alternatives😊.... I used to live on a boat in Annapolis Maryland for a few years ...that was about 10 plus years ago but since then I was married for 7 years and now I'm divorced and a little lost😢 but I think and most likely will move back to living on a boat in Annapolis with my sea kayak and start fresh

I was born and live in Italy, a country that has always and still is considered the "green lung" of Europe. Unfortunately, there are building speculators whoe every year commission forest fires in the hope of being able to build; in Italy there is a law that where there have been arson or natural fires, you cannot build for 100 years, and it is well known how much less time nature takes to take back its territory.

Cute, but not realistic description of nature. If only that was true, there would be a chance for paradise some day...I wish.
