Couple of updates after publishing this video: 1) Dehancer Photo is currently macOS only (from what I understand a Windows version is forthcoming). I neglected to mention this in the video. 2) At the time of this review, Dehancer is only accepting payments via cryptocurrency. I was not aware of this prior to making this review, for the company provided me with a license (so I didn't go through their checkout process). Hopefully by the time you read this more purchasing options will be available again.
This was honestly one of the best videos I’ve found on RU-vid. This video made me fall in love with photography all over again. It reminded me why we do what we do as photographers and the richness of our craft’s past. Thank you for this incredible video and I look forward to watching more of your content!
HI ! I just found your profile through this video. I really love your excitment and professional - informative style at the same time. Thanks a lot for the great content :)
Awesome walkthrough video! Not only did I fully learn how to use Dehancer, but learned a great deal about FIlm Stocks, really appreciate all the knowledge you shared man!
Minor correction: I believe they suggest to bring the contrast down to 40 and the blacks up to 60. Not that this is critical, but I've noticed it's better when there's more wiggle room in the dark shadow region. They also recommend bringing the exposure down to bring the whites down (it gives a better result than dragging the highlights and whites.
This is such a comprehensive guide to dehancer photo! I'm looking to create a video on the tool myself & I will most definitely reference to your video here.
Learned a lot from this video Todd! Thank you so much, and you further informations regarding films were so informative to me! Also listening to your teaching is really chill and comfortable to follow :)
It’s a great plugin for sure the effects look convincing enough grain, bloom, halation etc but in terms of color RNI is much better, so i use them both combined. The results do turn out quite magical but still even using the very best emulation which is what this is it can only take as like 95% there compared to the real thing. Also I found when preparing the raw file prior to editing I skip the -1 exposure as suggested. Just keep it correctly exposed and -40 contrast +60 blacks.
Your videos are phenomenal and so informative. Do you think you could make a video on WHICH film look to use for those who are completely new to using film emulation on digital photos?
Thanks. :) With digital film emulation, there are no right or wrong answers. That said, I usually see the best results when matching photos with film stocks that were originally designed for that type of use. For example, a low ISO daylight film for midday images, etc. Can also try positive (slide) film emulations for subjects that lack color saturation and vibrancy.
Absolutely love Dehancer for street photography, landscape and artsy stuff but I'm having huge problems with skin tones and portraits. I just can't get it to look right... Any ideas?
Also, wouldn't it be beneficial to open the photo in Photoshop first so that you can create a smart object and make tweaks if you are unhappy with the results?
Hi Todd. After watching your video I was excited to purchase this plug in. I did last week and used your discount code. The plug in for Lr isn’t working properly (very small text and UI menus over each other). It seems a problem with scaling. However the Ps plug in works fine which means there’s a problem with the Lr plug in not with my computer. I’m using a Dell XPS powerhouse designed for photographers with Win10. I contacted Dehancer support who asked for some info and then they never got back to me yet. No follow up. Very disappointing. I’m going to file a claim with PayPal and get my money back shortly.
I’ve used FilmPack 5, which I assume is similar to 6. It has some nice film profiles that look great, but with more limited settings and features compared to Dehancer.
Sort of. The app automatically remembers the settings you last used, so when you open another image the previous image settings will be applied (which you can then remove, of course). You can also save custom presets.
Dehancer Photo and several other apps are missing a big point of film. where are the options to add a speck of dust, a tiny film scratch and fixer stains?
I was hesitant to support Russian software right now given the global sanctions in spring 2022. After looking into views of the company founders on socials, they appear anti-war enough for me to feel okay supporting the product. Thank you for the terrific video.
mate cmon lol. either way, even if they've moved out of russia, if you are from any western country such as UK/US/France/Canada/Australia - then we should also be boycotting ourselves for endless bombings in the MENA regions, while still currently illegally occupying and stealing resources. never mind still never facing justice for war crimes for the past even 30 years, and still happening. i'm british, but economic sanctions never have worked anyway. it just is cruel to the citizens of a country, and us in the west at least have absolutely no moral authority to agree with sanctions before we bring ourselves to justice first. think we can all agree the war is awful and i wish it wasn't happening, but also try to critically think about the other points i've made.
@@stanislavrico if you're in the US or Western Europe you probably pay taxes somewhere nearly as bad. What's the casualty count on the Iraq war and Afghanistan?
Photograph catfish app. Shoot film if you want it to look like film. This is like waking up next to someone and realizing they aren't the person you thought they were.
