One thing that people miss to mention with breathing is the mouth shape as you’re catching a breath. I used to think that the key thing was just to turn my head sideways and if my form was right, the water naturally goes around me and water wouldn’t get in my mouth. I would open my mouth like normal everytime I turned my head sideways and get water in everytime. You actually have to, like he shows in the video, bring your mouth mainly towards the surface of the water.
@CampCucumber

No, breathe normally. Do not side mouth, its unnecessary and creates bad breathing habits + encourages poor form.

Ther reason for people getting tired fast in the water is simply they arnt breathing often enough and letting all the Carbon dioxide out. I’d suggest 2 strikes breath 2 strokes breath and when your face is in really exhale

Thanks! A problem I wish to fix is, when I breathe on my right, my body would drift away from center line and move to the left. Is it because I turned too much, or stayed up breathing for too long? But I am aware of these points, if I adjust too much, water would go into my mouth..

@mylittlepitbull3143 Год назад
@@dandavid2027 I blow out all my air underwater or into the water right before I looked to the side and get a quick breath. This technique was taught to me by US national Coach where you do what's called a forced exhale to empty out all your lungs and then you will get approximately 30% oxygen back into your lungs. Breathing exercises exhale inhale start thinking about expanding your lungs getting your breath all the way down into your belly. Yoga breathing. Plus I try to keep as much air in my lungs during the swim to add buoyancy.

The biggest help for me was breathing every 2 strokes instead of 3. Most swimmers say to breathe every 3 strokes to keep in balance, but then I watched the 1500 Olympic race and saw they were all breathing every 2 strokes. Also, I'm not racing, but like running, I seem to only have 2 speeds I'm comfortable at too slow and too fast. However, getting a swim snorkel has helped a ton to go faster for longer during my workouts.

@heightdevil
@heightdevil Год назад
@@arkering9574 I said that backwards my bad, usually I practice with 3 & race with 2. You're right to an extent about practicing what you race but mind you, if that was 100% true then we'd literally only do a 50 free every day to practice for the 50 free. It could be that you naturally just have a good, symmetrical stroke and so you don't need to practice symmetrical stroke patterns. Your average swimmer though (even Olympians) tend to practice both sides though. You can see this in vlogs by Caeleb Dressel or Cody Miller.

I can't thank you enough for these videos! I am just learning to swim. Late to it, but better late than never I suppose. I have a good instructor, though they typically deal with children, so I think some things are more instinctual for kids. I'm struggling with a lot of these things. These videos are such a help to me. Just finding ways I can practice the techniques without having to also remember how to do all the other things at the same time, has been wonderful. I felt like I was struggling because I couldn't get my kicks right and strokes right, and also breath, all at the same time. The way you break these down into individual elements and show how to practice from the smallest step to the advanced is so well thought out.

This how I swim 1 1/2 miles daily while at the ripe old age of 65 (2 miles swimming outside in the sunshine)..granted I’ve been swimming from an early age and after a couple of decades this just becomes normal. The upside to all of this is that it so improves my overall fitness, helps with my arthritic bones, and well gee I just love being in the water till my skin prunes up 😅. I see other older people in my swimming emporium struggle so I just think they don’t enjoy it as do, maybe they would if they just made it easier on themselves. Also I really just don’t understand the whole scuba tube thing, seems to me it would make breathing regularly more difficult.
