I studied this position when I was 12 from the maizelis book. Unfortunately, descriptive notation and Russian translation to Spanish made it difficult…but I loved it That was 1974!

I tried to understand this in Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual, I tried to understand this through CJS Purdy's On the Endgame, I tried to understand this through Jesus de la Villa's 100 Endgames You Must Know. This video was the first time I felt I really understood the concept.

I think the best book written about this subject is 'The final countdown' by Herman Claudius van Riemsdijk and Willem Diederik Hajenius. There also exist a Chessbase CD from this book. I wish someone could make some video tutorials explaining the methods described in this book.

i was reading Dvoretsky Endgame manual (4th edition) and this position is in there, but i couldnt quite grasp the ideas behind it. Quick youtube search and here you are with the same position. Youve really helped clear a lot of things up and the rest of the 1st chapter regarding pawns just clicked so easy. I do still find it relatively hard to find the key squares though to then get onto the corresponding square part of the dilemma but i am sure that will come with practice. The 5th edition of the endgame manual does explain it a little better though and highlights particular squares more clearly, but i think that is down to watching your video initially that i can read it more clearly. Thanks for clarifying as I'm reading endgame book by Dvoretzky & found this quite difficult to comprehend. Also stockfish recommends Ke3 which I think it's much simpler.
