Thanks for doing this video. I’ve never seen one this comprehensive. One that helps me conceptualize the process of getting from San Diego to the terminus. Good luck. I’m looking forward to this journey.
Such a cool video! The footage taken after sunset was a small rocket launched from Vandenberg Air Force base, just north of Santa Barbara. Vapor trail is pretty colorful, huh?
Don't know when I'll catch up on this trip, but it's great to see you out there. Guess you were glad you packed that mid-layer by suppertime! And that third hand should be very useful (note: not "handy"). Did you pack an extra trekking pole for it? Beep beep!
The garden you walked through in old town was built by several agencies and tribal units of the Kumeyaay people that live in southern San Diego County and northern Baja California. It is called "Land of the First People" and actually accurately shows many of the plant species from the area. You really will see many of them on the PCT. Black sage, Cleveland sage, California coastal sunflower, San Diego sunflower (Bahiopsis), California sagebrush, California sycamores, several monkeyflower species, etc.
looks like you are ready . FYI im a supplement guru i have alittle anxiety my self . i started taking ashwaganda , look it up , I will never be without it . Have a great hike RIVER CROSSING
Have a most wonderful trip! I’m glad you kept your hat. Oh and you signed right next to Number 2 Pencil, another one of my favorite AT and now PCT hikers.
Good luck! It's so great to see you two on your way! Your food choices look good. Those watermelon chewy Sour Patch things are a REQUIREMENT. :) I keep them in my hip belt pocket as a reward for hard climbs. Hope you are having good weather and lots of fun!
Kit kat and twix, my favorites! I sold my car because I don't drive much and insurance was expensive. Uber works fine since I live in the city and work from home. So excited that your PCT adventure has begun! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Looks like you are off to a good start, no weather delays and no travel misadventures! Best of Luck! You obviously need a sponsor worrying about $72 for car insurance! The LMNT folks might be interested, they have worked with AT hikers.
if you're going to have someone start your car once a month, make sure they drive it around a bit. If they just start it up, then shut it off, they might drain the battery.
Not a bad idea to add a heavier middle layer. It may be a colder year this year, like last year. I'm not far from Truckee and we have been snowing as low as 1500 feet yesterday and today. And honestly, in the high sierra I tend to need more layers at night even in July and August.
and yes on the stablizer for the car fuel. I have a truck that sometimes I don't drive for a couple months and tend to keep stablizer in it, Where I am you can get planned non operation on your tags, and don't need insurance, but it's more like something you would do for a year or two.
Just a heads up regarding your vehicle. You may want to have your roommate move the vehicle every now and then. If a vehicle sits for too long the tires will develop a flat spot that will make for a very bumpy ride. I learned this lesson the hard way when I let a vehicle sit for a year while I was stationed overseas.
Taking off the tag can be a problem. My mom got sick and stopped driving, we turned in her tag. We knew you can’t park a vehicle without a tag on the road, so parked it in her driveway. She got a ticket because it wasn’t legal to park a vehicle without a tag even in her own driveway in her town. Not sure of laws where you live, but glad you left the tag on.
Deep breathing helps with anxiety, but I'm guessing most have known that. Just remember to deep breathe when you feel weird. When I lose sleep over a longer period of time, that is when I would get slight anxiety, and therefore I had to learn about deep breathing for that reason. When exercising, biking or shoveling snow, I had to learn to deep breathe afterward when sitting down, so I'd not hyperventilate at times. 😋
Good morning sun will be up shortly snakes aren't bad yet be sure to listen to prehike safety tips lecture listen to your body Especially your knees and ankles And deal with hotspots on your feet early Good luck 👍
