If you keep giving your plants just a little water the roots will be at the top of the soil and you will have to water more often. The plants need to have water several inches into the soil so the roots go deep. I am not trying to be a know it all but all my ancestors were farmers and I have had a garden all my life. My wife and I watch you all we love all the progress you all have made and we thank you all are really great. God bless you

Put a spliter at your house and run the hose to your garden. This will help when there is no rain for your rain catchers.

I made the my mistake of making mine to low and mine needs to be raised this year. Your tanks are bigger and the water pressure alone maybe more than enough. Even if it doesn't rain you'll still collect water. Themoisture in the morning mist will contribute.

Hey Valerie. I've been watching your channel for a while but this is the first time I've commented. I love your channel and you and Tim are such a sweet couple. You have got the sweetest, kindest smile. I'll be 68 in July but we lived in two different places in Virginia when I was a child. Virginia is a beautiful state. I remember my mama and daddy taking us on the Blue Ridge Parkway and it was beautiful. I bet Tim makes you laugh a lot! 😂 You and Tim are hard workers. Your life style reminds me so much of my childhood. Wonderful memories, never thought I would see our country in the mess that it is now. Oh for the simpler things in life. Congratulations y'all!!! I'm really happy that y'all are making so much progress in getting your little homestead up and running!! It's a job, even for us seasoned veterans who have been planting and harvesting for many years. Your water catching system is basically what we call an above ground cystreine. My Granny had a cystreine where the rain water was caught coming off the barn roof and the water was actually routed to an underground tank. That water was used for drinking and cooking (she had an outside bathroom). There was no running water in her house and drilling a well was not done on the tops of our Virginia mountains back then. Most people had water piped to 6 houses from small streams ( like the one y'all call a creek, I was raised calking them branches), to their homes and it was always gravity fed so the water was free flowining. I think y'all did an excellent job!!! I love your videos, and one thing, I noticed you had planted some Poppies amongst your flowers next to your garden, please remember that next spring you will need to watch for them to come up all around the outside of where you planted them this year. You will most likely have them coming up in your garden spot also, they are self sewing and they multiply like rabbits!!! All you will need to do is spoon the seedlings up and replant them wherever ya want them.

You should put some logs and branches in the bottom of your garden containers. Your garden is looking beautiful.. you may consider using some logs around the outside of your garden, for a border . Love your channel.

We had a metal Shed for a chicken coop and it was to hot for the birds, much better for them to have a wooden one, great video ❤🇬🇧

In the beginning of a water catchment system, they can fill the barrels with water to start, and utilize the water to irrigate their garden. Hopefully it will rain soon and the barrels will refill themselves. At my previous home, I drug a little over three hundred feet of hose until the husband put a drip system in for the sixty-two fruit trees. They were a bit heavy so I got the hose where I wanted to start watering and went up to the spigot and turned it on. It made it a bit easier. He also trenched to the back of the property, and on either side of the middle of the property and put a spigot in each of those areas for us to use. It made things so much easier for us. The little things that make life better. Here in Central Texas we are having a lot of rain. So I don't need to water as often. My youngest daughter is in Houston in grad school and Houston is getting too much rain. I'm praying 🙏 that my daughter, her fiancé, and the people in Houston are safe.

Theres quite a few videos on inexpensive water irrigation tips for gardening..Using Milk jugs & soda bottles really food grade containers.

Thanks for the video! It’s odd how the original owners set the two houses facing one another. Any plans to ‘hide’ the neighbors porch from your view? A large butterfly bush or two on the property line would do a great job of giving each other some privacy.

The gardens are wonderful

Just get several 100 foot garden hoses ,put them together and attach a lawn sprinkler, that's how I have always watered my vegetable garden . Lots of hoses! Love your videos

Put a screen over the hole of your tank. Trust me, the bugs and leaves will find a way in. I have two tanks. Without the screens I'd have a mess.

You’ve done a great job with the garden

I have 2 separate rainbarrels that are raised 3ft up off ground without any pump and I tell you I wish I had one. The water flow is slow and works best using a drip hose. Most of my garden is in big pots, 5 gallon buckets, large dish pans and more. My veggies are not growing inground due to moles and voles. Love your rainbarrels.

Consider using soaker hoses . Attach to your house spigot and extend to your garden.They are a very efficient use of water

It seems like it is leaning forward...and if that is the case...the water won't drain to the back of the gutter and go into the pipes into the water tank...your garden is really looking nice and healthy!!
