This reminds me of a book I read in school, when I still went to school, and had checked out a book that described a story about a girl who was kind of forcefully taken to the woods and treated like royalty by the creatures there, because I think it was her dad maybe? And there was a ball. Also the character, Fern, looks like a Deerfox! Probably because my sister has been having me watch Hilda on Netflix, but the freckles and delicacy of how graceful and small your character is plus the energy of a fox and skittishness says deerfox to me
