Thank you for this tutorial. I remember being completely flummoxed the first time I tried to put my pipes away in their bag. I wish this tutorial had been out there then. There should be a rule though: if you can't open the shipping box carefully, you shouldn't be allowed to buy bagpipes. The first 4 minutes of this tutorial cracked me up! (Oh! That's how you use a knife to open a box! Really? People needed that instruction? /sarcasm.)
You mentioned that you sold reeds with different strengths. Is there any benefit to learning a harder reed? I ordered your mouth blown smallpipes a few months ago and I'm thinking of getting this as a secondary instrument Thanks in advance!
Karbon Monoxide Great question. Harder reeds can enhance the tone, and they tend to last longer than easier reeds, which have thinner cane to vibrate more easily. You don't want to perform with a reed that's not a comfortable strength, but if you're interested in building up to a medium or easy/medium, you can have a harder reed on hand for part of your practice sessions. Of course, the most important thing is that the strength of the instrument suits you and keeps you wanting to play and practice. Thanks!
+wessagussett1 Thanks very much for your question. I truly apologize for the late reply. It seems we haven't been getting notifications. When we install a Gannaway on new pipes, we do prime the bag. It will need to be seasoned, so a bottle of dressing should be added to the order. We would be happy to do the seasoning here; it's just adds a couple days, so the primer can dry. The first dressing of the bag takes a larger quantity. After that, a couple tablespoons as needed is all it will require. We like to drain the first dressing back into the bottle, so it can be used again. We would be glad to help with any other questions. Just give us a call or chat online from our site.
+The random one Balance Tone reeds would be one good option. They are very efficient reeds, so air is not wasted. Another good addition would be a set of drone valves. These regulate overflow, preventing overblowing--or too much air going to the drone reeds because of inconsistent pressure on the pipe bag. Again, these would help to improve efficiency, as well as increasing stability of drone sound and allowing better strike-ins and cut-offs.
